Now, when I sat down to watch the 2018 Japanese movie "Kawaii Akuma" (aka "Cute Devil"), I assumed that the movie was an actual thriller, as this is what the movie was labeled as here on IMDb, as well as on the movie's cover. And since I hadn't heard about this movie from writers Shinji Imaoka and Machiko Nasu before, then I didn't know what I was in for here.
As it turned out, this was essentially 1 hour and 25 minutes of sleazy softcore adult entertainment. Not exactly what I was expecting, much less interested in watching. So I ended up turning off director Hisayasu Satô's 2018 movie before even making it to the end. Yeah, I just had zero interest in watching such a movie.
Sure, there was a murder mystery element to the movie, at least it started out as such, but the storyline quickly succumbed into showing off nudity and lewd scenes, and that is where I ended the movie.
The acting in the movie was, well I suppose, as to be expected for a movie such as this. But then again, I wasn't expecting this particular kind of movie, so I wasn't really set up for those kind of performances.
This movie was a swing and a miss. It utterly and completely failed to entertain me. But I am sure that there is an audience out there for a movie of this type.
My rating of "Kawaii Akuma" lands on a generous two out of ten stars, and that is based on the production level.
