  • This started out as a promising horror movie. I love supernatural, demonic movies, so I was excited. It quickly went to hell, pardon the pun. The actors must be praised: for the script that they were cursed with, they did great. The acting was really good. But the writing? My goodness. Who did what? Why? No motivation, no clear villain, the time sequence was totally out of order...why? Just why? The last scene tries to explain the movie, but it does not: rather, it fools the audience, and I do not like that. There is a big difference between a well-executed plot twist, and just fooling the audience to cover bad writing. Concept? Great. Acting? Great. Writing? Terrible.

    Warning: Spoilers
Ben (Oded Fehr) is in prison for murdering his wife and daughter, but his lawyer Wendy Coulson (Alexandra Gilbreath) is convinced that demonic possession is the cause. So how do you prove that in court? Steven, whose cursed object may have made Ben a killer, has created an apartment filled with multiple objects with the same demonic hold and rents it out to Carly (Alana Wallace), Maria (Aislinn De'Ath) and her daughters Joey (Anya Newall) and Lilly (Lara Mount). Now, that family's demons are about to meet very real ones.

Adam Ethan Crow has some interesting ideas in here and it feels like this inhabits the same world as The Conjuring films while having a more progressive family at its center. While Steven and Ben have been faking ghost incidents for years, the air bob filled with occult objects actually begins to show them what the unknown really is.

Steven is as repellant a character as you'll find, his plan is one made to unravel and woe be to the normal family caught within. If you enjoy possession and paranormal films, you'll definitely enjoy this one, however.
  • Aside from not being very impressed with the male lead's acting, this was ok. It's one of the better British horror films I have seen but it was lacking in quality actors.
  • WTF?? I don't remember seeing worst dialogue than In this movie in my life. It's embarrassing.

The relationship between the characters is schizophrenic! And the cuts?? I can't with there ratings. Just watch if your intention is to trash something.
  • Script is appalling, acting is worse than a school play. The most unlikable characters I've seen in a movie in years. For a horror it's about as scary as jelly and ice cream. I'm genuinely struggling to think of a positive aspect to this monstrous excuse for a film. Oh, it's very boring too. I've wasted an hour and a half of my life, please take my advice and don't do the same.

I just don't get the unnatural reactions of actors in this movie. It feels like they're trying too hard. Playing to the camera in stead of being the caracter. Their reactions to things that happen and the dialog is very unconvincing. It just feels like they are acting. A bit like stage performances. Nothing in this movie impressed me. I barely finished watching it. Don't bother.
  • Reading the other reviews, I guess it's each to their own but I thought the acting was wooden, the storyline was tripe.

There's nothing convincing about this one. Even the "Posh" swearing was unrealistic.

    At least it was free!

I see complaints about actors when in reality they werent that bad. The real evil in this movie was the script. It's full of 2nd hand jokes that keep getting reused, completely tasteless and boring. There were so many unnecessary scenes between the two older women that didn't contribute to the storyline at all. It's mildly frustrating because you honestly just want them to "get on with it " awful CGI. The ending created more questions than answering any. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT!!!
  • I would highly recommend this little gem...and this coming from a jaded viewer who has seen it all. Despite it's limited budget, movie manages to keep you transfixed and invested in the proceedings. The jumps are good and performances laudable for a micro-budgeted feature. Even the sfx is well done within the financial constraints. The plot and the dialogues are a wee bit uneven, but easily forgivable. I would love to see what this director has to dish up next!

    Awful
Started off good, but the acting was terrible and the storyline was meh - hardly a horror film. The use of rather dim humour with one liners was really cheesy and annoying to the point it wasn't needed at all in some parts making it cringy.

Didn't hold my interest and was easily forgettable which is a shame as I thought it would be really good. Mainly because it was hard to follow and the acting was really bad, the actors obviously tried but I didn't feel that any of them believed in the story or their roles.

I hope the makers take on board all the critique and develop their skills for future films and not flops, I agree the reviews with top marks are indeed from people who have been asked to boost the rating which is a shame - adding yet more cringe!

I won't be shouting about this film and I love a good horror and know a good film when I see it!
  • Indie horrors seem to vary enormously across the board but this is one of the better ones. With a storyline that kept me interested and a twist ending that I didn't see coming, I was very impressed with both the quality and the narrative. The acting was similarly impressive and lovely to see some fresh faces for once. Two ones to watch are Aislinn De'Ath and Anya Newall who both played their parts beautifully and convincingly. I was also delighted to see a story that had an LGBT couple that was treated as a normal part of the plot.
  • Without expectations after one UK movie disappointment too many I really enjoyed this. There is something of a seventies UK horror film in this one, the bleakness, the lack of money, the character development, the tense ending, and the last twist. More please!

Just very uneventful and a snoozefest At least it was free The lead actor dude is kinda funny The only decent actor is the guy from the beginning and hes only in it for 10 mins.
  • So the story and the lines are really bland, and terrible. The premise seemed like a good one, but it just didn't quite work for me. Some of the characters were just plain dull.

But some of the deaths are really over the top and hilarious though, in a bad film kind of way. But that's where these stars are coming from with my rating.
  • This film was so terribly acted it wasn't even corny. The two parents of the girls were like nails down a chalk board whenever they opened their mouths to moan shout and argue the whole time. The American lead fella isn't likely to nominated for any awards any time soon. But he did come out with a few good be liners. It also bored the backside clean off me. In short there were ZERO likeable characters in this so called horror film. I've had bowel movements more frightening than this annoyance. Zero scares but just satisfaction at the end result. Every horror flick on prime and Netflix is rated no higher than 5.1. It's like no one can come up with a truly scary horror. More from the likes of insidious and the conjuring.
  • At the time of writing, over 3,000 people have given this film a 10/10 rating, which is one of the most blatant attempts at rigging an IMDB rating I have ever seen. Nothing about this film merits more than a 5/10. It's not very well written, and the acting is decidedly mediocre and unconvincing. Oded Fehr is only in it briefly and his dialogue is undecipherable, but he's still billed as the 'star' for obvious marketing reasons. The direction is amateurish. The ideas here are not great. Kudos for having a same-sex couple (even if they seem to hate each other) without making an issue of it, but there's little to recommend in this film.

Another terrible movie I've ever watched.

Dialogues are bad, acting is amateur, characters are boring and plot is meaningless. What's going on, what's going on, cause and effect, nothing. It's a below average horror movie.

    --- spoilers ---

A man is trying to prove that a supernatural creature did the massacre, and he's willing to destroy a family group for it. Family pattern pack of idiots. They will stubbornly stay in that devastation.

  • Well Corey Johnson is always worth a watch, a consummate professional as is Oded Fehr. There the positives end to be honest, you don't even get much of Fehr. It all falls apart when the afternoon TV fodder turn up, 3 women who cannot act and some ankle-biter. The lesbian romance is once again only there for the usual sensationalism and is absolutely pointless. As for the word horror, well it doesn't really happen. The ending will have you rolling your eyes.

I mean if you enjoy movies like Blood Punch or All I Need then this one will interests you. That being said when things did happen that caught your attention, sadly they were far and few between. I guess it could have been better but I enjoyed the story honestly. I recommend as a one time watch.

I must admit that I was expecting a tad more from the 2021 horror movie "Lair" frmo writer and director Adam Ethan Crow than what he managed to deliver here. Sure, I had not even heard about the movie prior to sitting down to watch it. But it being a new horror movie and having an interesting enough synopsis, then of course I had to watch "Lair".

And I will say that "Lair" was watchable, for sure. But it was by no means a milestone in horror cinema. Nor was it actually much of anything outstanding. In fact, once you've seen the movie, chances are slim that you will ever return to watch it a second time, as the storyline just doesn't have the contents to support more than a single viewing.

The pacing of the storyline is rather bland and slow, and whenever director Adam Ethan Crow does set the stage for someething sinister, the build-up is rather anti-climatic or just fails to deliver something wholesome. And that makes for a somewhat swing and a miss movie.

I saw that the movie had Oded Fehr on the cast list, and that was initially the main reason for me sitting down to watch "Lair". But imagine my surprise when I found out that he wasn't even in the movie a whole five minutes.

On the account of acting, then it should be said the actor Corey Johnson definitely carried the movie rather well, despite him not being the actual main actor in the movie. Also Alana Wallace did put on a rather good performance in "Lair".

Visually then "Lair" was bland. The movie didn't offer much of anything interesting in terms of memorable, spooky or interesting visuals. And whatever was there, was just not given enough screen time.

For a horror movie then "Lair" just didn't manage to deliver or bring anything new to the genre. And for a seasoned horror veteran such as myself, then it was a mere stroll through the park sitting through "Lair".

My rating of "Lair" lands on a less than mediocre four out of ten stars, as I was left with a rather hollow sensation and a feeling of 'was that really it?' once the movie ended.
  • Superb acting from Alana Wallace, who plays Carly Cortes.

The LGBTQ+ representation shown thoughout this film is brilliant and shows inclusivity.

There's clever twists, and some good scares.

This is a good old English spooky story which I liked very much. Yes I did. Problem with these movies is this: you like it or you don't and I did like it.

    Lair
I feel like I wasted my time with this I was about to shut it down since it started but I decided to give it a chance it seemed like it was getting a lot better as it was getting further that's what I thought but then it got more stupid and it left me with many questions to be honest.

Terrible dialogue, very low/no military realism, awful monster designs are all combined with a plot that could have been written by a third grader to make this movie one of the worst I've ever seen. I want my $4.99 back please.

I had only moderate or low expectations based on the description and the trailer but even those were far too high. Movies like this make me think I could become a movie writer and/or director. Who is approving this crap?

I would like to say the plot has holes but the truth is it's so simple that there's not much room for holes. The most entertaining part of the movie is watching the actor playing the major try to figure out a southern accent.

This had a lot of potential. The opening was impressive and creepy, then it quickly goes downhill when we're introduced to a little girl and her annoying family. The acting was really bad, especially from the red head. I thought of turning it off 30 minutes in but stuck with it. It shot back up when the kills started happening again those were very well done, and actually creepy. Majority of the movie is full of filler and build up, which could be fine if the writing was better and the characters weren't boring/unlikeable. The deaths scenes are the best part. The overall premise is good but I kept wondering how something like this would turn out if James Wan got to direct it. He would have been able to do wonders for a story like this, and tighten up the loose ends.
