David Mann (Leroy) and Tamela J. Mann (Cora) are in reality, married. Tamela is only two months older than David.

Although Leroy is a senior in his 70s, David Mann is around 30 years younger than his on-screen counterpart.

In the play, Cora has just found out that Mr. Brown is her biological father. Mr Brown then brings her with him to meet the brown family. Strangely, There is no Brenda Brown ever mentioned in the play, although The film could possibly take place be after the play since Cora has already established herself into the family once Brenda arrives to meet the browns for the first time.

In the film, Angela Bassett's character discovers that she is a member of the Brown family. Her newfound sisters (played by Margaret Avery and Jenifer Lewis) each played her mother in other films. Margaret Avery played her mother in the biopic "The Jacksons: An American Dream", while Jenifer Lewis played her mother in the biopic "What's Love Got To Do With It?"
