  • Great acting, tight editing, sharp dialogue and excellent use of locations make this 12 episode (less than half hour each) series a really engaging surprise even if the territory is not entirely original. Where a number of other French series exploring similar plots (missing girl/s in a remote village) seem to go immediately OTT on Gallic mysticism and generally grotesque village carry-on, the mood here is determinedly low-key and down-beat (similar to the excellent Belgian series The Break), making it one of the best and most credible cop/detective shows currently available on Netflix (in Ireland, at least). Well worth a look
  • Enjoyable show so far, still in progress. Acting is very good overall: generally understated performances. Interesting to see a show from Luxembourg. Good use of comedic moments in early episodes, which add variety/interest.

Obviously, you have to ALWAYS watch a show or movie in its original language and turn on subtitles if you want to appreciate whatever it has to offer.

I imagine most of the people complaining about bad acting are watching a dubbed version. Either that, or the only kind of "good acting" they are aware of is typical, over-the-top American histrionics. If that's what you like, then why not stick to watching only American shows.

One unexpected bonus is that each episode is only a half-hour.

Just finished the series. Didn't understand the ending, but oh, well. Not the first time that has happened!
  • The people leaving negative reviews are either children with the attention spans of flies, or morons too stupid to read subtitles. It's very well written, acted, and directed.
  • A solid crime/detective story. Decent acting and a well developed main storyline. There was a bit of a twist at the very end and some episodes had cinematic cliffhanger moments.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I'm up to episode 9 and they haven't once searched the dead girl's room?? Not once? I'm not a cop but even I know that's the first thing you do when someone is murdered. Search the whole house! And when the twin was missing you'd search her room too for clues as to where she could be. It's driving me crazy because other than that I am really liking the show.

I love the shorter than usual episodes. The characters aren't super likeable but also not annoying. The acting is decent. The story has twists and turns and keeps me wondering what the outcome will be.

I'll have to do another review at the very end but currently I'm giving it 7/10.

Edit after finishing season one: the ending was so ridiculous. It was so predictable that I thought there's no way that it would actually be what happened, but it was. And then after ALL that he just leaves it? If Jenny was my daughter I was have throttled her until she told me the truth. And wtf is with the whole Carla storyline? My eating went down to 6. Still enjoyable to watch and easy to watch but annoying ending.

Also - why on earth would Rob buy all the drugs from the dealer in order to stop her taking them? Hahahaha that's the most stupid thing I've heard. And if he did, why would he hide them in his car and not just flush them down the toilet?

But most of all - AS IF THE FATHER AND BEST FRIEND (and anyone really) wouldn't know which girl is which??? I'm sorry but I don't care how identical they are you still know the difference if they are your own child.
  • If you can't find anything better, then this series is not a complete waste of you time. I'm now in the second season. Can't really remember much of the first. The story is simple and adequately told, without fussing around. This however is also the down side; no surprises, no interesting or unexpected plot twists. Just simple and straightforward crime with a plot hole here and there. The acting and dialogues are average at best and for some charaters below average. The characters remain very superficial. Dialogues may feel forced and not well acted out. The whole atmosphere breaths neutrality, contrary to what I love about most of the French and Scandinavian crime series. You won't get hooked, nor will you probably irritated. Doable as an in-between while waiting for something better.
  • I think with a bit more refine this could have been up there in the genre. There's some decent acting and technical aspects-a mostly good script and plotting. It's certainly not a bad watch, overall. But I wouldn't recommend it to people wanting to get into the genre either.

As short as each episode is, it feels artificially long because they do bite sized reveals each episode, only some of which are substantive. The B plots are more well handled than the A plot, mostly because of some huge requirements for suspending disbelief surrounding the parents and the twin girls. Then the writing doesn't feel well handled later again because a guy shoots one person; two people die, but when conferring with his lawyer, it's stated he shot two people. One of whom was killed when he was not even present. A completely different person shot the other guy. How... did this get by the crew? Then the final reveal is fairly predictable, and maybe less interesting than other theories.

However, the character arc for both mains I thought was fantastic and really propelled the story when some hiccups happened. I really, really like the outcome for the local female brigadier. It looked like it was going to get tropey but it was actually excellent.

All in all, mixed bag. Probably worth watching just for the character arcs though, especially if there's to be a second season.
  • Made a change from Nordic and French shows that we watch a lot of. Not quite up there with the very best, but good none the less. Decent story, acting and production.

First film or tv series I ever watched from Luxembourg, and in the local language/dialect. Only for that, it is interesting. Most of the actors were good and it is well filmed.

But it is difficult to understand and the stories are over the top. The general plots are about lying and deceiving ... but at some point there are too many plots and nothing makes sense.

And every netflix tv series seems to need a drug trafficking plot, which makes it hard to believe in a village in the north of Luxembourg. A policeman arrives before any crime is committed, and we learn he is in search of a woman who was linked to a drug traffic cartel, and had to flee to Portugal, was tortured, they killed the druglord, and is back with another name in this village, and she has the weapon of the policeman for insurance, and I don't understand their story and the weapon.

A girl appears dead, and she has a twin, and we learn that it is not twin A that died but twin B and twin A supplanted twin B and we don't understand why.

The father of the dead girl is mixed in a sex trade organisation for rich people that would go to a farm in this village in the woods, and we don't truly believe this.

The father of the dead girl is having sex with the daughter of the baker, who trafficks with drugs with 3 military men. One of the military men is boyfriend the the local policewoman, and organises international drug traffic, the other military man is in love with the baker's daughter, and at the end we learn that the dead girl died because she followed the people in the night for the orgy, and then she was pushed, and moved by the father, and it goes on and on ....

And there is a police woman in spacial affairs who is a firend to the policeman but is investigating him and the portuguese woman, and plants evidence and at the end the policeman is imprisoned, the father of the deadgirl is also imprisoned, and two military men are killed by the father, and the other goes to prison, and the local police woman is shot and she was pregmant with the military man, but loses the baby and .... and I really could not understand the plots and became a bit annoyed, but it is well acted.
  • Complicated murder plot in a small town full of secrets. The subplot of the personal life of the detective is the most intriguing. Each episode is 30minutes long, which makes it tedious skipping from one to another. Seeing the Luxembourg country is the best part.
  • This series is really good and it even caused us serious binge watching. Luckily, it was weekend anyway. We started but could not switch off. It was all to good and to exciting. The suspense was "killing us". LOL

Luxembourg - surely not known for fab film making - did something really good here. We enjoy these hours in from of Netflix very much. Those are short episodes anyway. (each 30 minutes)

I truly recommend this murder mystery series. That's why I gave it such high rating. Probably the best I've seen from Luxembourg ever. LOL
  • Not a bad show but there is nothing special or interesting about it either. Its mediocre in every aspect. If you dont expect too much and just want a crime story for a free weekend you will still enjoy this one.

My biggest problem with the show is the plot in general. There are so many plotholes and an unbelievable amount of characters making weird decisions. It just feels like everything needs to be put a certain way to somehow make the plot work.

These plotholes made the ending of season one very confusing since there were still so many questions unanswered and I expected at least some of them to be answered. But instead it just ended.

The plot is ludicrous. There are giant holes in the story that make it totally impossible to get into the narrative. The investigator seems unwilling to follow up any clues. He runs around like on steroids, but insists on not following up any leads. The subplot seems weird and even there, there is a huge hole in the premise of the story.

That being said I enjoyed the filming, atmosphere and scenery, so I watched all of it. The language is fun to listen to.
  • Just watched season 2. Imagine a deck of cards with a cliché on each one. Every single card was played. I'm not complaining; I'm impressed. It actually was rather entertaining.
  • This feedback is for season 2.

It's also a very good series and Capitani is at the centre of murders and drug dealing.

Main character, Luc, is excellent !

Filming locations are in beautiful Luxembourg !

The only downside to season 2: Regarding casting, the three main female characters all have similar short, black hair and similar black clothing ... making it a bit confusing to know who's who !!!
  • Holy cow! Have you ever seen a town so full of people with deceptions and lies that you're surprised it continues to stand? I couldn't last a day in this Luxembourg hamlet. The people are beyond phony. They're simply disgusting. Still, that is the life they live, so who am I to judge? Why do I compare it to a MAGA burg? The truth is out there. It's as easy to find as air, but they choose to lie about almost everything to perpetrate some kind of fake perfection amongst themselves. They wholeheartedly reject reality in favor of protecting and continuing their insignificant lives while, at the same time, reeking of insecurity. No wonder the kids are hooked on drugs. I would be, too, if I was forced to live there. My rant aside, "Capitani" is worthy viewing. It's an interesting crime mystery told in a colorful, albeit depressing, fashion. Besides really good acting, dialog and serviceable pacing, the cinematography of the Luxembourg countryside and forest is worth the price of admission alone.
  • Except the main character. Couldn't stand to watch it for more then 15 minutes.

In my opinion, all foreign productions should be watched in their native language with subtitles, as it adds to the quality feeling of the show.

Capitani is an enjoyable watch, nothing earth shattering, but filmed in a great setting and has enough interesting characters to make the show enjoyable. The episodes are all around 30 minutes, so you don't need to devote an inordinate amount of time to the show before deciding if you want to continue.

The episodes move quickly. Despite the story line being a little muddled from the first to second seasons, it sorts itself out in the end.

The lead actor does a great job portraying a guy, down and out at just about rock bottom, and carries the show over the 24 episode, 2 seasons.

I enjoyed watching this clever whodunit , it's a fast paced mystery that involves different plots and several storylines , which connect nicely at the end with engaging characters and great acting , you should watch the subtitled version and not the dubbed one. There are 12 episodes of 30 minutes each , I recommend it for murder/mystery fans !

First of all, another Poster "Lucien-M" made exactly my observations. That the three main lead females were far too alike to be distinguishable - short dark hair, blue eyes ... Pascale, Carla, Elsa. Surely the casting director must have noticed this !!!! I had to replay episode 6 when Carla appeared against Pascale checking her on the internet - I thought she was checking herself ! I

The rest ? Well, Luc aka Capitani is always worth watching, the story lines are a bit convoluted, but the 30 min episodes are soon over, so short enough to have a break and return to later. Not really binge worthy though.
  • The high level plot is not so bad. However, the way the police operates is just so ridiculous it is hard to watch.

Capitani, described as a tough but competent detective, doesn't actually show any competence. He acts like he is smarter than everyone while at first not even starting to properly investigate.

People obstructing justice, dealing drugs, suspects etc., instead of getting properly interrogated etc., are just allowed to keep at it after some supposedly smart talk they get from Capitani.

Aside from the police work being almost a parody, the way "the village" is portrayed is again like some horror-comedy. Everyone is some sort of an evil either involved in some nefarious plot, or at least an evil gossiper terrorizing everyone around.

Anyway, while the plot makes you want to finish, the ridiculousness of the police work and all the characters makes it really painful to continue.

What can one say, from the scenes, the setting, the intrigue its all there great to watch and the plot has a lot of twists, makes you wonder who done it till the end.
  • "Capitani" is nothing great. Interesting but not a masterpiece. What really caught my eye was the setting. When was the last time that you saw Luxembourg depicted?* I mean, what's it known for except castles and banking?

Anyway, the series is OK if you have nothing else to do.

*For the record, I recently saw "Quiet Days in Clichy", which featured a scene set in Luxembourg.
  • With so many good police dramas available on streaming services, this is simply a faux-pas. The main issue is the script. OMG, you will not believe the level of incompetence of the police in the story! I watched it until the end, just to see if somehow the ending would redeemed the plot... My bad! Save yourself from this mess!

One of the worst "crime" dramas we've ever been unfortunate enough to see. Laughable acting and a so-called "plot" that was concocted by a committee of 12 year olds on crack and had more holes than a golf course. Avoid.
