  • I was able to attend a free viewing of this film at the Asian Film Festival of Dallas 2009 and I have to say I really enjoyed this movie. Best appreciated for the actors and story rather than the aesthetics, the story brings a fresh perspective on the first generation children born in the United States from Vietnamese immigrants. Mark Tran portrays the struggles that stem from the cultural differences families similar to these experience in the United States so well.

The dad is a devout Catholic raised to believe that school is meant to study what makes you the most money, not what "makes you happy" and also firmly believes in Catholocism and does not want anyone marrying a non-Catholic. These two values alone creates a plethora of issues that arise between him and his 4 children.

Up and coming actor David Huynh is also an amazing actor to look out for. A quaint film that is a definite must-see.
