When Cecilia's abusive ex takes his own life and leaves her his fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of coincidences turn lethal, Cecilia works to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.
The scene where Cecilia gifts James with a new ladder is one of Whannell's favorites as it's a rare moment where everyone, including Cecilia, is truly happy. I still laugh because she just got $100k and gives this guy a freaking ladder, but Whannell's point is valid. "She doesn't get to be happy much in this movie," he adds, and to that I agree as evidenced by my tweet after seeing the film back in February.
You're just the jellyfish version of him. Everything but the spine.
Cecelia goes to the mailbox to check the mail. The flag on the mailbox is up. That's a signal to the carrier there is outgoing mail. If the flag is up the carrier hasn't been there, so there's no need to check for new mail.
The opening scene has large waves crashing against a cliff ; and the last of the opening credits appear as if painted onto the cliff by the water, then disappearing.
The UK version was cut to secure a 15 certificate, by removing 3s of bloody injury detail in a scene of self-harm.
