Reading the other reviews I'm happy to see that people get this brilliant show. Unfortunately the norwegian press was to stupid to understand it, and therefore I fear there might never be a second season. At times very funny, allways quirky and very intelligent show. The acting and screenplay is top notch! Cinematography is close to perfect. Its gonna be a cult classic.

If Fargo and Northern Exposure have a baby, that's "Welkome to Utmark" 😅
  • Script, acting and characters are great. Good build up of story. Great direction. Season 2 is a must.
  • And it persists in being that for each and every episode and each and every character. Rock solid writing, directing, acting, photography. EVERYthing. Everything.

This is SO solid and fantastic that if there isn't a season 2, I will find out who's responsible, find them, and strangle them myself.

Really absurd and surprisingly humane, totally twisted and wonderfully indifferent, Utmark is one of the best series I've watched this year.
  • Tobias Santelmann is fast becoming a national treasure. Alma Günther is an amazing young actor. I wish imdb would get credits corrected. The pace of the show is perfection, and the cinematography is stunning. A must watch..
  • Love this series, has the craziness and nutty, dark and dangerous characters just like the US Series Fargo. Great actors and some serious situations, and a Whole Lotta interesting scenarios, nothing is as it seems! Love all the actors, especially the kid. Can't wait for next season. ;D

A warning for animal lovers, has frequent animal deaths and prep (which was sad to watch).
  • This quirky pitch black Norwegian drama seriously took me by surprise - revolving around a grim conflict between an alcoholic shepherd and a mesmerically terrifying "lone wolf" character but branching out to take in a whole community of oddballs, deviants, criminals and misfits. The tone has a somewhat Coen Brothers vibe, albeit a great deal earthier and more starkly Scandinavian. It can be a little unremitting and not every character gets equal focus (the priest's arc always feels a bit crowbarred-in) but the performances are extraordinary throughout and the atmospheric photography really takes you to that bleak, beautiful place. Worth a watch, certainly, and I'd be interested to see more!
  • Very interesting story, awesome atmosphere, beautiful scenes.

It has nothing in common with American or typical European series. This is just another world to explore. Refreshing, addictive, brilliant.

I hope HBO will focus more on shows like that.

This Norwegian series has the usual actors drawn from the small pool of acting professionals. The story is offbeat at times, with subplots that seem to go nowhere. Despite that, it does engage and hold viewer interest. It's set up for a second season so hopefully that will happen.
  • Nothing else to be said than to watch this show. Greatly written with a lot of dark humour, crazy characters, and a wonderful combination of good actors.
  • This series has a trendy style, featuring some dark humour, quirky characters and woke themes (even in a small community, there are lesbian characters, abusive males, a crossdresser, etc.). It somehow seems familiar, even though I haven't even seen the Fargo series, which it is often compared to.

The Nordic vibe and countryside, as well as the Saami characters add interest to the story. I also enjoyed some sub-stories, particularly the one where the grieving pimp pays the Albanian prostitute to play his wife for a day. I thought these scenes were funny and touching at the same time.

All in all, although it is not completely original, it is worth watching if you enjoy quirkiness.
  • I cannot figure out all the great reviews for this show. It's like someone decided that a show featuring every low-life human that could possibly be present in one obscure town would be interesting. And if there isn't enough alcohol, prostitution, and other crimes to go around; everyone is cheating, beating up partners, and divorcing. Can't even say the landscape is nice because, well, it isn't. The music sometimes gives you a feeling something intense is happening, but then.... Nothing happens. The men act like they walked right out of the Stone Age.

There's a teen girl that's been mixed in for some unknown reason. It's like they needed some way for a younger audience to connect...? She just goes back and forth to school and gets verbally abused by her mother.

Everything that happens is anticlimactic. There's no plot, no mystery, no reason to even have a show. I'd rather watch paint dry.

Love the crazy characters and the darkness of it all.
  • In this liked era of heroism cinema, this is better than most of so called tv series.. this is a gem of simplicity and artistic beauty.
  • Yet another HBO amazing series, I watched it with subtitles yet find it funny, so it was be great watching in Norwegian. Great story and performance.... Can't wait for season two....
  • I've really enjoyed a number of Norwegian shows the past couple of years but this is probably the best of the bunch.

Kind of like a cross between "Fargo" and "Northern Exposure" - the main story thread is the conflict between a sheep farmer and a Sami reindeer shepherd (and area bully).

The whole cast is great, but special mentions go to Tobias Santelmann (from Exit, Borderliner and Acquitted) as the alcoholic sheep farmer, whose life is falling apart, and Alma Günther, who plays his young daughter.

The characters are just brilliant. A must watch for every Norwegian.

You guys, the series doesn't need to be English speaking to be watched. Only 1440 ratings for this kind of masterpiece? Whoever is looking for a good show, doesn't need to look further. The kind of black humor is just awesome. It really shows how different mainstream shows are and what is missing over there. Would rather pick this show than any zillion dollar productions from Apple TV anytime. Wanna give a big thanks to producers and actors for this incredible show. And hope there will be second season.
  • How actors can participate in this fest of mediocracy is beyond believable. Once thought to be good actors are now the drain of the traid. Sad.

    10/10
    Amazing
Absolutely perfect show. I just love everything about it. Rare to see something so well made. With the greatest casting I can imagine for these interesting characters. I have to agree with the Fargo comments. Rare, unique, charming, crazy and everything else. 10/10.
  • I have only watched episode one so far and was very pleasantly surprised. This is one of the best first episodes of any series as it sets up the characters and the premise of the series very efficiently and humanely. The videography is splendid as is the acting. But everything starts with the script and the writing is perfection. Update: Highly recommend after finishing season one. Quirky like Bagdad Cafe. Very good character development. And there are a LOT of characters interacting with each other so getting each character's story line developed requires fast paced editing which gives the overall production a rather fast pace. Great writing, editing and acting.
  • As tomsola reviewed it: "If Fargo and Nothern Exposure had a baby"
  • Warning: Spoilers
TV at its best. Quirky characters, solid acting, beautiful wilderness as setting. One can't ask for more. Its a modern western. With the main antagonist dead, they could have ended the series. I am doubtful if season 2 will be this engaging without Bilzi.
  • At least...Season 2! A wonderful surprise on HBO series list. Yes, definitely a great descendent from Northern Exposure vibe and feel. And btw, is there a place to watch NE again?
