It started out so well in the first few episodes, but Dave Franco's over-acting is a cross between Bob Newhart and Al Pacino, and it becomes overbearing and annoying. It's also quite violent in parts, gratuitously so. I see the importance of those scenes, but they went on for far too long. The Eckharte premise is fine and good for inspiring people to be here now, and there is an underlying point about not expecting people to change, we're all going to mess up at inopportune times. It's a movie about compassion, and it does that part well, especially by not trying to tie up every loose end, just like life. Bill Murray's casually brilliant insights are great. I wish the director had reigned in Franco and pushed him to deliver at least some of his lines straight, and it would've been a much better series.
  • This ain't your average show about a young man's battle with self-loathing. It's that with the absurdist twist of a Farrelley Brother's comedy. This time a dark comedy in particular. So, it's a blend of things real, things elevated to a level of the absurd (so maybe not as real), and a down-there warm and fuzzy heartbeat.

I think it works. I think Dave Franco is more than good. If he's guilty of some overacting it is in service of that already mentioned absurdist element that, frankly, makes all of The Farrelley Brother's films what they are.

Sure, it won't please many folks, but it will likely please many others as well. Not Unlike their iconic comedic masterpiece "There's Something About Mary". I'm not insinuating this is on that level, just saying it was polarizing and became a classic. I recommend this to all fans of The Farrelley Brothers because it is a fresh side that still has many strokes of their brilliance.
  • I didn't know what to expect going in but I have to say that I was most pleasantly surprised. The series is well written, directed and has an outstanding cast.

Dave Franco was brilliant. Jimmy Tatro and Bill Murray knocked it out of the park. Rob Yang, what can I say, I was in awe watching him do his thing. It was a really top notch performance and my favorite of the bunch. Also great to see Alyssa Milano playing a warm character on screen and not selling a bunch of fashion nonsense.

As mentioned, the writing, direction and production were top notch. The subject matter is real and was handled nicely. A show that makes you think just a little is not a bad thing. Couple that with some crazy and unexpected twists and turns and this was such an easy series to binge. It's not perfect by any means with some of the turns being a bit juvenile but it makes up for it many times over.
  • I loved this mini series, but can also recognize the hate surrounding it. This shows not for everyone, maybe even most people due to its over the top nature and Daves over acting. BUT if you're someone who likes depressing humor, and maybe even depressed yourself or have suffered from depression(I'm only saying this because I believe its the reason I personally like the show) then I do think you can find enjoyment from this series. I'd give the first few episodes a chance, and if it's not for you it's not for you!
  • This show is cringely bad.

The acting is bad, the story is depressing.

It's like watching thousands of other boring tv show. There is nothing but boring depressing pathetic non funny things happening.

Whatever happened to the comedic genius of the Farrelly brothers?

    There is nothing here.

I had to force myself to watch all of it.

I am living in the past, when they knew what funny was, but now they don't.
  • I was actually looking for something to watch when I came upon this by accident in the ad on my Roku home screen, watched it all straight through. I honestly can't wait for more!

This show was fantastic! The entire cast was great and the three main characters have great chemistry together and are really funny! I hope they make another season because I will definitely watch.

    Warning: Spoilers
Wow, wow, freaking wow! This is what great acting creates.....a comedy with a spectacular message. There were a few vulgar parts that didn't need to be in it but you really don't notice when it just works. Dave Franco.....unbelievable, O'Shea Jackson, Jr.......so talented (why in the hell don't I see him more?) and the rest of the cast were phenomenal as well. Corny in some parts, ridiculous in some parts but you really don't care. It was extra special to me because I have 2 sons, although my 25 yr old died in January of this year, so the message was humbling and raw and beautiful at the same time. The last episode had me bawling like a baby but it was a good cry. Thank you.
  • Dave Franco and the hole cast did an amazing performance. The series was written really well. I normally dont laught at nowadays series becuase their humor is so flat and childish. But this show, man, it cranked me up a bunch of times. The Cast is good, the writting is good, even the ending is brilliant. A Big topic is handled on and its done right! With humor and a serious note.

One of my favourite series. I really can recommend you this one.
  • I liked Quibi a lot and they had some really great content and I was excited that Roku bought their content but with that being said, I'm pissed that they haven't renewed any of it. Of all the stuff I watched, this was easily the best and had so much potential for another season with Dummy being a close second. I love the dark comedy and it's well written as well as acted. Sad they canceled.

This whole bs of so many characters is getting old really fast since the best reviews are usually short and sweet; we don't need wannabe critics and/or wannabe jacket writers writing a synopsis of the content or going on forever and a day to meet the required characters.
  • This is one of the best dramatic dark comedy's i have seen. Amazing cast and the writing is spectacular. I really hope they make more of this show i binge watched the whole season 3 times and could not stop laughing. This is top 5 best tv shows ever. Dave Franco is perfect in this role, he is able to convey the dark depression and the optimism of the character in such a funny way. O'Shea Jackson makes a great friend. Bill Murray is the most hilarious therapist while still providing great therapy. The show is very dark and deals with suicide and depression but in a way that is rolling on the floor funny. And watching it actually made me feel better about my depression.

I came upon this show while I was at my lowest. Didn't know what to expect at first, but having to watch this show and all of its meanings. It made me feel like I wasn't alone. That life is unpredictable and that if I focus on what happened in the past, I won't be able to focus on The Now. I want to say thank you for making me feel this when my back was against the wall. It also opened my eyes to how much people over think thoughts we ourselves create. Whether it's PTSD or anxiety, it's okay to look and ask for help. So I wanna say Thank You for seeing me in you.

    P. S. Please have a season 2. Ed still has to find himself.
