This spectacular occasion presented nearly 90 internationally known artists over 8+ hours. The DVD cuts it down to around 3. I have nothing but admiration for the Corps de Ballet who appeared on this disc but using is to replace other outstanding performers is unforgivable. After all these years, one would think it is time to allow a new generation of opera devotees to view the entire gala. This has not happened. Many of the stars are long gone from this world. Issuance of the complete gala would be a nostalgic gift to all who saw the performance. Do not look for something that implies the entire gala has been documented, it has not. In the interest of openness, I personally saved this event to VHS and occasionally watch it beginning to end. Everyone who missed it or wants it on DVD should have that privilege.
