  • At all.

I'ld like to point out (since some don't see the idea behind all those numbers between 1 and 10), that 6 is a GOOD score! It means it wasn't great or brilliant, but good enough. And this was.

I read a lot of bad reviews that seems to me they have a problem about it not being 'realistic', like this couldn't happen in the real world. This to me, is not a valid complaint. Not every movie is Schindler's List.

I say this COULD happen, but it's definitely not plausible. But that's why it is a thriller series, not a documentary. It was clearly designed to entertain, and not to be deep. And entertain me, well it kinda did! The story is a classic thriller concept (which I happen to like), and nothing new at all. But then the way it unfolds, and the places it goes were pretty new to me and just surprising enough.

Definitely not a must see, oh no. But if you're in the mood for this kind of old school style thriller to be entertained, I see no reason why "The Stranger" could not cure that itch.
  • Very cheesy and bad acting except Dane DeHaan and Avan Jogia. The story is very impossible yet it is watchable just kind of stupid.
  • The Stranger is a sinister adventure, a grim journey starring fear, survival, and loneliness. High quality product that plays with the dangers of society and that uses film history as a potential to connect with the essence of the characters. Maika Monroe directs the plot in a maze of panic, bravery and desolation. Avan Jogia transmits warmth, determination and humanity to JJ. A simple, comical, and honest boy with enough courage to fight disaster. Or at least, to doubt the kind and manipulated reality. Dane DeHaan is the living image of evil as Carl. A cold character, thirsty for chaos and supremacy who loves to sow death and destruction to define himself as the king of the game. With megalomaniac and scary tints, Dane perfectly fits the role, goes directly to freeze the blood. I recommend it!

At its core The Stranger is nothing new however with great performances from Monroe and DeHaan, the show is actually worth checking out.

Obviously there plot is fairly simple but it does do something slightly different from the normal. There are a few surprises and unexpected twists which I didn't expect especially in the later episodes. The first few episodes take a while to find its footing. But it's a really fun watch overall and a satisfying ending.

Dane DeHaan is great as the villain. This is one of the shows/movies of the genre where you actually root for the protagonist. Maika Monroe is great delivering her best role since It Follows.

It's only 95 minutes long and now that's it finished, I'd actually recommend you watch it all in one go. It's much more of an edge of your seat thriller that way. It flows a lot better as well.

Overall it's a great show. It may have it's typical cliches and tropes of the genre but Maika and Dane make the show worth watching.

If you want to call it a film, was very suspenseful and kept you guessing what was reality and fiction. The only negative part of this was the ending could have been a little better and not so predicable.
  • I just finished watching all episodes in one go and found overall it was a fun thriller. This isn't supposed to be something that wins awards or people gush about, it keeps you guessing and doesn't disappoint.
  • I really liked this. This was my first short thriller. There were a few twists and turns. If you like thrillers, I recommend this.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I kept waiting for the twist that she was schizophrenic and making it up or her Mom set up the bad guy to scare her into moving back home. Instead it just ended up being a bad guy that noone else saw for half the season and the ending was the silliest thing ever. EXTREMELY disappointed.

I have just watched the first episode and i must say that i loved acting of Mr. DeHaan in this show. He is really good in potraying a sociopat.
  • In the beginning, it's pretty entertaining, and the story keeps you hooked. Plot development is easy to follow. Around halfway, maybe a little more, is when the plot development starts to get difficult to understand, character motivation lacks. Overall acting is mediocre AT WORST, and is pretty good. Cinematography is also overall pretty damn good. But, like I mentioned, the writing sucks. I would say it sucks more in around the second half, but there's not many literary devices used throughout the whole show, making some parts spontaneous and badly written. But for the people saying it's not realistic, I wouldn't say that's a valid complaint. It's not made to be a documentary, just a little show to entertain you. So just because it's not realistic doesn't ruin the show (I would say most Marvel movies could never happen, they're still fantastic and successful movies). But yes, there are very few plot holes, and the ending could've been ALSO written more skillfully.
  • I was intrigued at the onset, psychopath stalks and terrorizes a lonely young Uber driver, an interesting and timely thriller. Unfortunately, as the series plays out, the dialogue becomes more and more non-sensical and because of this the acting falls apart. I was left rolling my eyes during the final three episodes as Clare began having regular conversations with her stalker Carl E. Maika Monroe was excellent throughout the series, even with the silly dialogue and DeHaan was surprisingly good, playing beyond his usual character archetype of quirky leading man, transforming into a psychotic serial killer. The two stars ultimately can't hold this show together as dialogue devolves into silliness and the plot starts growing more holes than a piece of Swiss cheese.

    Hooked!
This is an edge of your seat thriller that works very well on it's presented platform.

Each bite sized episode packs a wallop of a punch. There is surprisingly good character development, fantastic direction, wonderful acting from everyone involved (so far), with impressive cinematography to boot.

I'm hooked and can't wait to see where this story leads.
  • My wife and I just completed the full 13 episode season. Wow. I wanted to like this show, but I couldn't. All the dialogue was forced and clunky. There was no depth. This is a show that in the year 2020 un-ironically used the phrase "he hacked into our main frame". What more can I say?

I liked the concept and it started strong, but overall the writing couldn't hold up. The story just didn't make a lot of sense, plot developments were difficult to understand and character motivation was often completely lacking. Also that's not at all how microchips work. I wanted to like it, but it was not worth the time.
  • The show reminds me of a couple of movies from the past with the story taking on a different spin. The only downfall was I cant watch it on a Smart TV

The number of assumptive leaps/gaps in logic is utterly through the roof on this. Such a waste of a great main actor (so good in In Treatment). This is utter trash, not worth anyone's time. Also, there is NO way this is a "series" this is basically a short film, chopped up. There will not be follow ups, this new network it's on seems to chop up unsuccesful movies and call them "series"
  • I don't know what the series was like, but this long/ movie version kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Kept me guessing, had me wondering what was real and what wasn't....or what I thought was or wasn't. I didn't know up from down and that is hard to do with me! I generally guess much of the plot early on! Nope not with this! The ending was a bit mid, but honestly, I'll let that slide. It really makes you think about the future of the world in this 'internet/ surveillance/ social media' time of our lives. Things past generations didn't have to worry or think about. I'm forever changed. It's definitely worth a watch!

The acting was great in my humble opinion. I did notice a bit of CGI that I wasn't sure why it was used, but I'll just chalk that up to an "everything is CGI now" issue. Cheers to the creator of this story. Chefs kiss.
  • Honestly, the show is okay. Its entertaining, not terrible. But I had a difficult time believing anything in this show would actually happen. The acting wasn't that good. The writing was biased and pretentious. The baseline was creative but then it was given to writers who had no clue what the hell they were talking about. Honestly it's a nice time killer during a pandemic, but that's it.

The hitchhiker or taxi passenger from hell has been done MANY times before. Much better than this. The script is just too poorly written for my suspension of disbelief.

I want this production team stopped before they waste any more film stock, and more importantly, anyone else's time.

Avoid this like the plague... it makes Uwe Boll look like a competent film maker.
  • For those that are having a hard time watching this it's because you can only watch it on Quibi which I have only been able to download on my iPhone and iPad. As of now you can't download Quibi on Roku or Amazon FireStick.

The Stranger is a great thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next! Each episode on Quibi is less than 10 minutes i.e. Quibi: Quick Bites so watching The Stranger is almost like watching a great movie but would be just as effective if you stopped halfway through however you would be thinking about it the whole time since I am still thinking about the series today.
  • Not understanding technology isn't a good starting point for a story that needs technology to work. The resulting mess isn't worth watching. Performances mixed, rarely believable, without any worthwhile content. I kept asking myself what universe this took place in, because it isn't smart enough for science fiction, and isn't creative enough for anything else.

    Avoid.
  • Didn't give a star rating since I only saw one ep. Man it is awful. I'm a fan of Dehan and Monroe, so I'm saddened and a little disappointed to see them in this level of show. The dialogue is so clunky and cringe I had to stop watching several times in the first (7min!) episode. Neither behave or talk like real human beings, and the build up to the "reveal" at the end is laughable, not scary, due to the execution. I hope for better projects for both of them in the future.

    Awesome
    Warning: Spoilers
I have to say I was really skeptical due to the 9 min episodes. But boy was I wrong. This is so different from the normal formula. The show itself was also great. I loved the bad ass ending ! Def worth watching
  • Awful! Completely illogical even for a person with a history of trauma. No one in this movie acts/makes rational decisions. NO ONE! No rapport with any character, poor development from the start.

    Warning: Spoilers
One star is because Dane Deehan plays a pretty good prick and one star is because even though her acting blows Maika Monroe is hot. Hell the dog was more believable than her and NOBODY on earth is as stupid as her character. This should have been labeled a comedy it was so stuoid that it was funny and the only thing that keeps you watching (for me) was one- you want to see with each episode how the stupidity is going to increase each episode and just out of curiosity how it will all end. When Clare pulls the gun on the cop instead of just having him take her and her new found love interest to the station for protection is beyond puzzling lol. Even when she gets to the station after being arrested the cops are all made out to be so incompetent and stupid. And last but not least. We are supposed to believe that Deehans character is so smart that he is ahead of everyone and everything at every step at all times accept for at the end he is to stupid to figure out that she is using her dog to bring him down and the sudden pack of wolves just right there outside the city that just decide to show up at that moment. Talk about the suspension of disbelief. Wow.
