I haven't found a copy of #17 in this venerable Buck Adams porn series, but no loss as Bud Lee's #16, despite its setting up material for the finale, is enough. The premise was certainly worn out by this time.
Asia Carrera, Lee's better half, starred in the first edition 8 years earlier and is still on board this time, working with Steven St. Croix and a bevy of red one-piece bathing suit beauties to guard the beach. There's a modicum of the porn-parody shots of the cast running down the beach or doing calisthenics, but George Kaplan's script is more about indoor sex than action.
It's not meant to be funny, but is more in common with the recent porn-ripoff genre than actual parody. In fact Lee directs some scenes as drama, including some rather dull exposition footage near the end when Randy Spears, with dour facial expression throughout portraying a police psychiatrist visiting from San Diego, laboriously sets up the plot for that elusive "Babewatch 17" (which is not even listed in IMDb).
Asia and busty twosome Zana and Sondra Hall make the sex scenes worthwhile, but Kaplan's script could have used more interesting situations. As a fan addicted to the work of Carrera and Lee I can't complain, but this is clearly nobody's shining hour.
