It’s been just a few hours since Steve Wilkos found out about the death of Jerry Springer and he’s still in shock that the man who changed his life is gone. While reflecting on Springer’s legacy, Wilkos tells Et that their get-together about a month ago now all makes sense. Wilkos says Springer was saying “goodbye” without officially saying goodbye.
Wilkos, a longtime fixture on “The Jerry Springer Show” as head of security before his own spinoff show, spoke to Et’s Kevin Frazier and recalled that fateful afternoon when he said Springer called him about getting together for cigars. The former Chicago police officer had just gotten done taping his show, “The Steve Wilkos Show” (now in its 15th season) and he was tired, but he couldn’t say no to the man who had such an impact on his life.

R.I.P. to the great Jerry Springer, who died Thursday at 79. This man revolutionized daytime TV — he was the Martha Graham of afternoon talk-show slap-and-punch choreography. His eponymously titled show was a beautifully bizarre pageant of dysfunctional American life: you watched strangers sit down onstage, listened to them confess horrible betrayals, and waited for them to lunge out of their chairs and scream. There was something so cathartic in it. You felt cheated if you watched an episode where nobody got into a brawl.
Jerry was not like other talk-show hosts.

Steve Wilkos, who got his start as Jerry Springer’s former “bodyguard” on Springer’s often confrontational talk show, said on Thursday that he had no idea that the TV legend had terminal pancreatic cancer.
“You know, we’ve been emailing back and forth and I actually saw him about a month ago. He was in New York and he came up to Stanford to see me and we went out for cigars and I, you know, looking back now I kind of think he knew, but he didn’t call me. And you know, he’s very emotional. And it’s just I didn’t know that was gonna be the last time I saw him,” Wilkos told NewsNation on Thursday after they reported on Springer’s death at the age of 79.
Wilkos went on to say, “He did so much for me. The life that I have is all because of him.

Get those paternity tests in now, because “Maury” won’t help you find out whether you’re the father beyond this September. “Maury” is the latest daytime talker to announce that it’s ceasing production in 2022, in what is now amounting to a major shift in the daypart.
Maury Povich is ending his run and retiring after 24 seasons of hosting “Maury” for NBCUniversal Syndication Studios (and its predecessors) — and seven seasons before that at Paramount Domestic Television, where it was titled “The Maury Povich Show.” Most recently, NBCU had renewed “Maury” in February 2020 for two more seasons in national syndication, bringing it through 2022.
Povich’s exit comes as NBCU also ends another first-run syndicated series, “Judge Jerry,” hosted by Jerry Springer, after three seasons. And the daytime talk landscape is being remade as “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Nick Cannon” and “The Wendy Williams Show” all say farewell.

In the market for a “hilarious party game for adults”? NBCUniversal Television Distribution has adapted its trashy talk show “Maury” into a board game called “The Maury Show: You Are Not the Father.”
The very real game is currently available for preorder on Amazon and will be shipped beginning Nov. 27. Yeah, just in time for Thanksgiving — a holiday that clearly needs more familial arguing.
Below is how the game is described by NBCU.
The show is known for its compelling relationship drama, family issues, infidelity, and signature paternity tests. “The Maury Game: You Are Not The Father” will allow players to clear their name, “Maury”-style, with this hilarious party game for adults. It appears to be the end of an era for The Jerry Springer Show. NBCUniversal’s syndicated daytime tabloid talker has stopped production of new episodes, at least for now, and will air pre-taped episodes and reruns in a move to The CW this fall.
Under a multi-year deal, the CW could order new episodes in the future, in which case the show would go back into production. But for now production has ceased. Fellow talkers Maury and The Steve Wilkos Show were recently renewed.
Hosted by former politician Springer, The Jerry Springer Show debuted in 1991 and became synonymous with “trash TV” with its controversial and sensational topics, its in-your-face confrontational style and on-set brawls. The series soared in ratings, reaching its peak in 1997-1998 when it beat The Oprah Winfrey Show. The series has aired more than 3,800 episodes in its 28-season run.
Broadcasting & Cable first reported the news.

One of the biggest names in syndicated tabloid talk shows is Steve Wilkos. Before he got his own show (The Steve Wilkos Show) Steve Wilkos was the security director on The Jerry Springer Show – and even substituted as host a couple of times. Wilkos is a Chicago native and a United States Marine Corps veteran, as well as a retired member of the Chicago Police Department. Steve Wilkos is no stranger to the dangerous situations that one might encounter as a part of the Marines or the police force. However, he has put himself in danger as well due

Krtv in Great Falls, Montana is apologizing and currently investigating their security measures after hackers broadcasted a message about a zombie apocalypse on their station. The prank, which aired in several Montana counties, was seen during The Steve Wilkos Show and was even voiced in the way a typical emergency alert would be! Now I've seen the road signs and stuff like that, but hacking into a television network?! That's next level. Watch the clip as seen by viewers below.

The stunt was pulled Monday night, when somebody with maybe too much The Walking Dead on the brain hacked into two Montana TV stations’ Emergency Alert System to warn of a real zombie apocalypse. The admittedly authentic-looking alert, which played over a commercial on Great Falls station Krtv and The Steve Wilkos Show on the local CW station, said “dead bodies are rising from their graves” and “attacking the living” in several counties. According to the Great Falls Tribune, there were at least four calls to police asking whether the alert was true — prompting Krtv to post a notice that the warning was bogus. The investigation continues, but the real scary part is how the pranksters apparently hacked into a federal system. Now their future will include jail, a TV development deal or at the least a cease-and-desist order from AMC. Here’s the CW feed:...

Oh, how we love stories like this one! A hacker briefly commandeered the Emergency Alert System of TV station Krtv in Great Falls, Montana, yesterday and informed viewers that a zombie apocalypse was under way.
Along with the crawl you'll see in the video below, a voice calmly stated during the station's broadcast of "The Steve Wilkos Show" that "dead bodies are rising from their graves." The alert was quickly pulled, and the station issued the following apology:
Someone apparently hacked into the Emergency Alert System and announced on Krtv and The CW that "dead bodies are rising from their graves" in several Montana counties. This message did not originate from Krtv, and there is no emergency. Our engineers are investigating to determine what happened and if it affected other media outlets.

The zombie apocalypse hasn't happened yet, but a few thousand people in Great Falls, Mont., are to be forgiven if they thought it was.
On Monday, the emergency alert system at Krtv-tv in Great Falls was hacked during the "The Steve Wilkos Show" to send out a message that "dead bodies are rising from their graves" in several counties.
The warning also told those watching not to try and apprehend the dangerous individuals, only to get to shelter and stay safe, Gizmodo.au reported.
Just in case you didn't know, there wasn't actually a zombie outbreak.
Nevertheless, Krtv-tv felt obliged to let viewers know both on the air and online that the earlier report of zombies rising out of their graves was not accurate.
"This message did not originate from Krtv, and there is no emergency," the station explained. "Our engineers are investigating to determine what happened and if it affected other media outlets.

On the latest episode, host Wilkos talks to a family who were accused of causing the death of a 7-week-old infant. Mother Michelle, father Larry, and the two grandparents of the kid -- they were all accused, all pleaded guilty, and all were sentenced to jail time.
We apologize for sharing these horrifying details. ... But the 7-week-old son in question died after suffering from a broken collarbone, broken arm, and bruises to the face, neck, and brain. His family came up with a completely implausible cover story that involved their son being dragged from their car and being beaten to death by cops. Yes. Because that's the sort of thing that policemen do all the time -- they just randomly attack infant babies.

Many of the first-run syndicated shows got off to a good start in their season-premiere week despite decreased viewership levels for TV in general.
PUT (people using television) levels were off by 3.3 million viewers during the week ending Sept. 17 from the previous week thanks to such factors as kids going back to school and the lack of a holiday (Labor Day).
Among the talkers, The Oprah Winfrey Show got off to a solid start with her 22nd-season premiere, jumping 29% from the previous week to a 5.8 household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. Other talkers improving by double-digit percentages included Dr. Phil (4.5, up 18%) and Live With Regis and Kelly (3.2, up 10%).
Meanwhile, the new daytime talker The Steve Wilkos Show averaged a 0.9. Unlike most of the other talkers, Wilkos has almost no double runs, which generally boost a show's overall rating. The same goes for "The Morning Show With Mike and Juliet," which made its debut in national syndication with a 0.8 after an eight-month limited run.

TMZ and The Steve Wilkos Show fared the best among the five new first-run syndicated shows that debuted Monday.
"TMZ" had the highest debut with a weighted average of a 2.0 household rating/4 share in 55 metered markets, according to Nielsen Media Research.
However, the half-hour entertainment newsmagazine was down 17% from its lead-in average (2.4/5) and off 9% from the September 2006 time period average (2.2/4). "TMZ" airs in primarily access, early fringe and late-fringe time periods.
Hourlong talker Steve Wilkos, which airs in daytime slots, averaged a 1.1/4 in 48 metered markets. That's a 22% increase over its lead-in average (0.9/3) and even with its year-ago time period average. Wilkos was the only one of the new strips to grow over its lead-in average. (It also should be noted that the talker was pre-empted in Chicago, where the show originates, because of a Chicago Cubs game telecast.)
Elsewhere, Merv Griffin's Crosswords averaged a 1.0/3 in 52 metered markets, off 17% from its lead-in average (1.2/3) and down 23% from September 2006 (1.3/4).
