  • My wife and I recently discovered the reruns of SMS on Prime and it is an amazing show. The new version retains the overall structure of the old show (which is awesome), but, as much as I hate to agree with the rest, Leslie Jones definitely ruins it. She seems like a nice enough lady, and on the first episode was somewhat tolerable. Unfortunately, the more you watch, the worse she gets. I'm not sure what demo they were going after when they cast her as I think most people from all walks of life find her grating. It's one of the few things that unites us as a nation, lol. Hopefully a better host next season, as I would love for this show to stay on the air for a very long time. Just, you know, without Leslie.

The show is good IF she would stop screaming! I dvr it in order to not hear her screaming, fast forward through a lot of her conversations. Different host and the show might be watchable.

In many cases reboots come in with unmeetable expectations. The charm of something that was enjoyed by someone years ago won't be replicated and they will be left disappointed regardless of how excited they were going in. Nostalgia is for the old, not the new version.

    However with that being said....

Hate to jump on the bandwagon but Leslie Jones was indeed a terrible choice for the host. She doesn't have the charisma to pull in an audience. She is trying to make it more about getting her jokes in than injecting humor in the game naturally. Not that the original host was special but he knew to keep it about the game. Leslie should not be front and center. The game should.

We've been in an era for quite some time of overproduced contestants. "Make sure you're excited and good for tv." Price is Right in particular has been cringey for years in the current era due to this. Unfortunately here is another example. Most people's natural excitement have always worked fine for game shows. The artificial kind does not.

Reboots can be somewhat polarizing. Sometimes it's unfair. In this case however, the dissatisfaction is earned.
  • What is it going to take to get the writers of this game show to understand that Leslie Jones is just not funny? I don't care if she doesn't miss SNL. That's where she belongs. If she wants to be an obnoxious game show host, then she should do it in a skit, and leave the actual game shows to people who are willing to provide real humor, not forced humor. You could just tell me not to watch it, but I really think that's missing the point. The more obnoxious she becomes, the more likely ratings will suffer. Leslie Jones needs to be replaced, but I doubt that will happen. I also think this show is difficult to look forward to or take seriously, as long as Leslie Jones is the host.

Also unnecessary: Neil, the security guard. Considering this is really a skit, then maybe Leslie Jones really does miss SNL. Does this guy really need to appear in every episode?

I thought Leslie Jones was pretty good on SNL. Not great, she couldn't remember her lines to save her life (eyes glued to cue cards), but she had the potential to be funny.

Once upon a time I got a chance to see Leslie perform stand up, and wow, it was bad. Screaming, I mean non stop screaming. Yelling the punch line doesn't make it funny if you do it every time.

With all that in mind, apparently Leslie took her stand up routine to this game show? She yells. A lot. That's cool for enthusiasm and all, but it's just too much.

I appreciate the fact that you can tell Leslie Jones loves this game show, but her delivery is just too "over the top".

The show itself has a format extremely similar to the original, if you enjoyed it you'll recognize everything here. But, a host makes or breaks a game show, and so far this one is broken.

Leslie Jones is new at all this, maybe she'll get better, but right now watching this has been painful at times.
  • Okay so lets start by saying this may not be for some families but as a grown man i laugh out loud the shows smart clever and leslie jones is hilarious and fabulous i get big laughs out of the grocery store humor the show i belieive would be suitable for a 10 or older child i highly recommend it
  • Leslie Jones is NOT a typical game show host...so I can understand some of the negative reviews for this TV show. But the degree of the negativity is perplexing. My daughter thinks, perhaps, this is because Jones got a lot of negative blowback from the "Ghostbusters" reboot...and perhaps it's following her. All I know is that while she does come on very strong and is nothing like any other host I've seen, the show, overall, is quite enjoyable. And, while she's loud and intense, sometimes I do enjoy this weird persona.

My advice is to try the show yourself. Don't automatically hate it or dismiss it. It's on Network TV and Hulu...and I see it as a great time-passer...a show to watch when you just want mindless entertainment.
  • I generally enjoy Leslie's energy on SNL and I don't mind the energy that she brought to Sweep, but she is terribly inappropriate to male contestants. Awkward, terrible, sexual harassment of male contestants. If a male host objectified female contestants like she does male contestants, they would be deservedly replaced. Sadly, Leslie needs to be replaced. It's not okay if a man does it and it's not okay if a woman does it.

This is a wonderful overhaul that the original show needed to bring it into this century! Leslie Jones brings a very exciting energy, and the diversity of guests brought on is great! Love that almost every show has brand new mini games!

I thought Leslie was funny and we laughed at her jokes. She is very high energy and I wonder if she can keep up that energy and enthusiasm for the whole series? I like the new setup on the show with the lights that turn green when it's your turn to load up the carts and red when it's time to stop. The clues at the end were easier than the original and in general the questions were all pretty easy and fun to play along with. I loved the original but this reboot is pretty fun too. Give it a chance!
  • Honestly, if you're a fan of the original Supermarket Sweep or just a gameshow fan in general, then you'd like the show. It's got great minigames, keeps the audience involvement up, and watching people sprint with carts and try to avoid each other is hilarious.

The problem is that Leslie Jones just is not great at hosting. Her jokes are unfunny and ill-timed and there are plenty of moments where she tries to steal the spotlight. The whole finale where the winning contestants play for the grand prize is great, but they spend half of the finale with a camera on Leslie giving unnecessary commentary with forced jokes. Why? The finale could easily just be the two contestants running around and discussing clues with each other.

Overall, if you like Leslie Jones or are indifferent to her than the show is worth a watch. If you find her unfunny then this show is par for the course.
  • I loved guessing all the brand names and failing like half of them. Host is okay. But the concept of the show is so fast-paced and fun.

Also the show is PG, so stop complaining about mild language, which aren't even considered "swears". PG is not G.
  • Warning: Spoilers
    The rest is.

I really love Leslie's energy. But her abusive relationship with Neil and the barista, not great.
  • Supermarket Sweep is a classic game show I watched as a kid, and seeing this reboot, I am shocked at how this update went. Leslie Jones does hosting duties for this incarnation, and sadly, she suffers from having too much sass. While I get she is a comedian, but I've seen comedians that did a better job hosting game shows by not resorting to overloading on sass. Also, they change the rules around, as it's only one round before the big sweep, a member of all three teams compete in the mini-sweep, and the reboot uses some actors for roles (like a flower clerk, a security guard, and a cashier), which makes for some horrible comedic moments. Best to stick with reruns of the original.
  • 1. Cast Leslie Jones. Godawful.

    2. Scream and speak poorly. If you did #1, this will happen regardless.

This show is an abomination, taking one of the most lightweight pieces of tv fluff and applying a jackhammer to it. It's not fun. it's not clever, it's not worth watching.

I loved this show in the 90s and still watch on buzzr. The new show is awful. Screaming obnoxious host. I miss David Ruprecht. I was looking forward to this reboot but unfortunately I was disappointed to a level I couldn't possibly have imagined.

The game is goofy and awkward.

    But hear me out....

It is entirely worth watching, for the little snarky jokes & inuendos. They're subtle, but I think they (wisely) gave Leslie a lot of creative control. Idk about the creepy checkout guy, tho. Might have to replace him with like, a polite Joe Maganello type.

My husband and I started watching this season, and have enjoyed it thus far. The different challenges and games on the show are engaging and fun. I am not a huge fan of Leslie Jones, however she is pleasantly tolerable as a host. If you want to watch something as a decent time pass once a week, then this is the show for you.

This was my favorite show and I was so excited for it to come back in 2020. The host is the worst. Yelling, screaming and can't understand her half the time. Very disappointed!

I enjoyed this show when I was little, it's even better as an adult. Love Leslie Jones, and glad to see her dreams coming true. She makes the show fun and updated!
  • Although I do like Leslie Jones, her manic style of hosting does begin to wear after a while. That said, it is still a fun show to watch, and quite interesting to see how different the prices and prizes are from the original, which was filmed many decades ago. Overall, I think it is worth watching again, even if only for the memories.

Host is to loud and obnoxious! Would be a great reboot if it had a better host. I could not get pass the first 10 minutes. She is not funny and all the screaming is totally unnecessary.

I run the "Supermarket Sweep Fans!" YouTube channel, watched the Ruprecht episodes all the time growing up, and absolutely love the new rendition of "Supermarket Sweep." They have reinvented the old favorites, added new ones, and I can't wait to see more!

Don't listen to all the whiney cranks out there, who complain after watching a total of one episode (seriously, the 2nd episode comes out two days from my writing this).---Did you enjoy the game? Did you root for a specific team to win? That's all that counts.

We all have the loud friend and Leslie Jones is it. ;-p So relax, everyone, and just try and appreciate the fact that a new generation of people will likely discover the Ruprecht episodes because of this reboot.

Have fun, and enjoy the show.
  • I like what they did to this version of Supermarket Sweep as of late 2021. The top contestants FINALLY get to win money at the end of the game. That is definitely a plus.

I also like the shoppers. The Fall 2021 episode of this had me in stitches when one of the teams just though they'd...leisurely shop, while the other teams were running circles around them. Even I was screaming at them to speed it up. And the winners got $6K in groceries and bonuses, that sure is different than the 90s show, bonuses and prizes.

This is now a great game to win cash and prizes for a grocery shopping race, and it's entertaining.

Now about the host. I did not like the host in the 90s show so much. He was nice, but the show needed more energy from its host. In bringing the show back they choose Leslie Jones who dials it all the way up. That CAN be grading, but she can slide in a few comedic add ins to make it interesting, a tad above a regular game show host.

I'm not liking the supermarket 'actors', but I do like the featured person who wins $2k for being a good store employee. That's kinda a nice touch too.

The thing is, Leslie is capable of toning it down as in this season, she does. They added a male voice over while the shoppers are doing their relay. I can tell the show knows it needs balance and Leslie is entertaining with this new format. I like the show, it's much more fun.
  • I enjoy the questions like before so I gave it a 3 but it's not clean family fun anymore. Can't watch it with your kids. The host yells way too much and says nasty stuff. I think I'll just watch the 90's reruns.
