In the 1890s, William Murdoch uses radical forensic techniques for the time, including fingerprinting and trace evidence, to solve some of the city's most gruesome murders.
His name is MurdoCH, not MurdoCK.
Although the credit on each episode reads "Inspector William Murdoch", he is actually a detective. In Episode 1.2 Murdoch applies for the position of Inspector, but is turned down. It is made clear that he will never get that promotion because he is a Roman Catholic.
