  • I saw this recently on Amazon Prime after reading glowing reviews.

This is my first Malayalam language movie n also the first movie of the lead actor Fahadh Faasil.

This movie definitely deserves all the accolades.

Faasil gave a terrific performance n his mannerisms, his change of looks, especially the weight, is remarkable.

Another amazing performance is by Vinay Forrt.

The film kept the suspense throughout whether Freddy will kill or not and the twist came as a shock.

The movie has an amazing cinematography.

It was hard at times to read the subtitles cos the dialogues were pretty fast. Maybe a second viewing will help me more with the story n characters.

The only thing I didn't like is the ending cos the fate of Freddy is ambiguous.

Coincidentally i saw this one day aft viewing Brawl in Cell Block 99 n both has a lil similarity, a person is sent to a prison to kill another inmate.

One of the best movies that I have seen in 2021. Good writing, backed up by some terrific acting performances took the movie to another level. The cinematography and music were also great.

The only problem in this movie is its length. Some scenes seemed unnecessary.

Apart from this everything else was great. Give it a try,you won't be dissapointed.
  • The only bad thing about Malik is that we can't watch it in theatres.

Fahad Fazil and Nimisha Sajayan as usual at their best.

    Sanu Varghese Cinematography

    Sushin shyams Music top notch

A film Written Edited and Directed by MAHESH NARAYANAN.

Even though movie starts with slow pace it gains its intensity at the end and makes the audience to stick to the movie. Powerful acting by Fahad, Nimisha, Vinay and almost everyone makes this film makes even strenthier. Cinematography and direction is excellent, kudos to Mahesh Narayanan. As I said, its a lengthy movie and Alikka is an important character but portrayal of his role is somewhat lagging in some point and at the final stage of the movie very small sequence is given to portray his actions, which I felt could have been improved.
  • What a brilliant movie and awesome actor Fahad, u r the malik in malayalam industry....
  • The meaning of the word is basically Master.

And boy does it befit the actor who is taking method acting to a different level.

There are very few actors today who will match up to the depth of Fahadh faasil ( Nawazuddin comes close ) , kamal Hassan is way ahead

The film starts off with a long 11 minute mono shot of Ali akka the local god father hosting a dinner for poor people of his area. His disdain for the local politician played brilliantly by Dilesh pothan. And his change of tone when he is alone with him in the room with this politician is simply put brilliant.

I hardly understand Malayam and relied reading on subtitles while looking at the actors facial expression at the same time. ( I watched the movie twice )

The movie touches on multiple aspect Political manipulation , the struggles of fisherman, An upright mother , confused son who slowly walks towards crime, The religious conflicts between communities are sensitively handled and add powerful weight to each part of the story.

There is also a powerful scene where people are dumping all trash in the boundaries of local Masjid and the member of the community comments " if this was a temple the civic body would clear this dump right away" reflects some aspects of Modern India.

Coming back to Mallik, The acting is top class. The movie is basically a hybrid of Agneepath ( The friction between Sir Amitabh and his mother ) , Nayakan ( Sir kamal Hassan trying to do the right thing for his local community ) and Satya ( local gangsters trying to outdo each other to fight for supremacy ) with Sir Fahadh's amazing acting.

Even the actors will minimal screen appearance like Freddy who is the son of David played by Vijay Fort. ( he is brilliant too ) once a close friend of Ali akka now turned foe is simply put brilliant.

The manipulation games played by police to convince him to assasinate Ali akka aka suleiman. His confusion to either take up the job or not. His introduction scene where he hurls country made bombs toward police from his local school terrace , his eventual arrest and the pleading of this parents to try him as a juvenile is tightly scripted with some amazing background score.

And then there is Jiju George as a police officer who has sympathies for the young Ali akka the smuggler.

The thing about Jiju is that he doesn't have to put effort into his acting. He is that convincing no matter what role he plays ( I suggest you watch his "Joseph" )

I consider myself too small to even comment on Jiju George acting prowess.

The brilliant Nimisha Sajayan as a protected wife and a insecure lover is surely going to grab a few awards.

The beautiful locales of Kerala are a important character in the movie.

The execution of some scenes is really breathtaking.

    Example :

    * The murder of a rival politician by Ali akka and his friend David is tightly scripted and brilliantly executed.

    * The scene between Ali Akka's mother and Freddy the contract killer for her son.

    * The reaction of Suleiman when someone hurls stones at this mother for testifying against him in court.

    * The jail sequence between the old Sulayman and the young Freddy.

    * The death of young Sulaimans son and the scene which shows the depth of acting by both Faahid and Nimisha.

I stress this again. Malayalam cinema is way ahead of any industry today in India. Their technician are brilliant and they have Fahad (The prince of method acting ) , Jiju and a few more amazing actors at their Arsenal.

Take a bow Malayalam cinema. And you my friend Fahadh are the beacon of hope in method acting.
  • Someone on Reddit (r/MalayalamMovies) said that Malik (Chief) is a combination of superbly shot sequences, and I agree. For that's what Malik is. Nearly 3 hours of intense, captivating cinema going back and forth through the life of a wayward son and his gang as he works towards the betterment of his life and his people while struggling from society, politics, and communalism. It's a masterclass in filmmaking - especially the way it is shot, paced, and performed - that will be essential viewing for film students in India. Watch it.

Excellent movie, which definitely makes you think from the heart. Every single actor has done justice to their roles. But Fafa my man what an acting. If there is ever a Oscar version of awards in india, he should get it.

Watchable but It's how when you liked your cup of ice cream you added some water to it just so u have more... Spoiled the beauty by stretching too much. Too many unnecessary conversations and scenes.. Fahad though not at his best has done justice to the character. 7/10 for Fahad and cinematographer... Rest of the components 5/10.
  • Fantabulous performance from the entire crew , every role had their specific impact on this movie and none other than the maestro fahad have proved it once again that how good he is in his work. The story line connects with some of the past events happened in state planned by the politicians and bureaucrats. A clear and good message for the society too !
  • Not as good as thought, one time watch movie, nothing special.

Good acting by Fahad and Vinay fort .Some scenes were good but overall this movie was boring and overrated. Mostly the final scenes that was boring and felted like cliché.

    One time watchable movie.
  • Malayalam version of "Nayakan" or "GodFather" , Malik based on real issue mix with some fiction . 10 star for casting and acting. In history real politics may be different, but as a movie Malik mark his name in Malayalam Cinema history.
  • One of the best movie of Fahad fazil. Acting of fahad throught the movie was brilliant as it was And also the other actors. And a big applose to sushin shyam His music composition through out the movie was just brilliant.

Classic way of showing "as is". Acting of this guy is good...
  • Malik movie is an utter disaster for those who had any sort of expectation from Mahesh Narayanan; especially at a time when Malayalam movies are at the forefront and the bars are already held high for these cooked up gimmicks and generated hype to pass down as a flagship movie.

The monotonous story telling and a few unwanted forced expressions from Fahad Fassil also didn't help much to make this a worthy watch.
  • At first, what is the point of having 10 stars when you are not rating it? That's right, I gave 10 stars rating to this movie coz it deserves.

I won't give much on the story line or the performance of the characters in this movie and how beautifully they are crafted. Words would be less to elaborate it.

    It's a honest movie. Don't miss it.
  • Most of the movie strongly relies on the performance of the lead actors, than on a fresh story/perspective. Feels more like an old wine in a new jar .Resemblance to well acclaimed movies of the genre does not do any help to a cliché story line.

Many points in the plot aren't established/under-explored. Not worth the hype!
  • A well crafted movie. Direction, Script, Acting and Songs... Especially the BGM 👌🏻
  • Brilliant ,hats off to whole team.

Mahesh narayanan special hug to tell an untold story.
  • Not met my expectations. Many scenes are over exaggerated and not realistic. The direction style is a decade old style. Most of the malayalam release in Amazon is very good , but this one failed to impress me.
  • I liked this movie and idk about other people but as a 16 year old boy i liked this film to the core.
