  • One of those songs that has three powerhouse women that you expect so much from... and unfortunately it falls flat, Lana is underutilized! Same is true in the vid, they give her a cool tech vibe and just shatter it in the solo with sexy shots. Still, hot vid.

Okay these slightly under 4 minutes we got here are the music video for the song "Don't Call Me Angel" by Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey. It was released about two months ago and since then has already managed over 100 million views on Youtube, some big charts success with reaching number 1 in some countries even. Of course, this one here is to promote the new take on Charlie's Angels that features Kristen Stewart as one of the title characters and also Elizabeth Banks (also the director) who has a little cameo at the end of this music video too to make sure we don't forget about the connection. The director of the music video is Hannah Lux Davis and it is really surprising to see how many music videos she already directed in recent years despite her relatively young age. She fits right in the age group of the three singers here pretty much being somewhere between Del Rey and Cyrus. Anyway, given her deal of experience I certainly would have expected a better outcome here. This was extremely disappointing. Admittedly the music video is not as much as a failure as the song (the lyrics are plain horrible honestly), but it's nothing to be proud of either. Remember when Destiny's Child wrote the song back in the day to promote angels Diaz, Liu and Barrymore I think? Now that was high-quality emancipation. This one here is really nothing but anti-male. You know you can support and encourage your gender without putting the other down. Because that is exactly what you complain about that many males do when they act in a derogatory way towards females. Well, this short film here is just a mirror in the most negative sense one could imagine. Miley Cyrus is truly wasted in the boxing ring and also sitting on a guy's lap while ranting about how he is just a guest in their lives, nothing more. In terms of lyrics, Del Rey probably has the best part that is at least slightly tolerable, but you forgetg about this quickly when you see her throw a knife at a target that is supposed to be a male and the knife lands right between his legs. How would women like it if we see that same scene only with a guy throwing it and the knife hitting a breast? It is just not acceptable. I am not talking about the violence. It is okay as long as it makes sense, but in terms of making a strong pro-female statement the music video is getting it wrong from beginning to end. Which is a pity because I like Miley, don't mind Del Rey and Ariana Grande is okay too, really beautiful I think, but how she performs the chorus feels so shallow and empty that I like her a little bit less right now. And by the way, even if it suits your cutiepie image: If you don't want to be called an angel, then maybe don't dress like one with these wings. So yeah, no matter which perspective you take, this one is a massive failure. Highly not recommended and I truly hope the movie which will come out very early in 2020 I think will be better than this mess.
