"Gabrielle Chanel Essence" is a pretty telling title for this short film because it really makes obvious what we have here. This does not try to be a film with a story really, but it is more about the immediate artistic impact and that one is there I would say. Of course, in my very subjective case it also helps that I think that Halo is one of Beyoncé's very best songs and she was pretty much at her peak at that point and sadly went south quickly at some point afterwards. So audibly it is a feast already. The visual side is not much worse. i am not the greatest Margot Robbie fan and I must say I really really disliked her on Wolf of Wall Street, but what she has done since then (Harley Quinn, Tonya Harding, Sharon Tate) was really respectable and partially impressive even, so she somehow won me over I guess. Here she is not really doing anything except slightly dancing moving around and letting the drapery flow you could say. Somehow this reminded me of these very very old short films from way over 100 years ago that had similar motives and ideas. And that sometimes were also equally short because this one here runs for 30 seconds only. I think that this running time is fine and also it would have been more boring to watch this for 2 minutes or even longer, but the argument "nothing happens" is not really too valid with this duration. I can still see why some see it as vain and shallow all in all, but I felt the artistic component. So good job to Robbie, who also looks pretty stunning here and if i say that as somebody who is usually not into blondes, it means something. So of course she is really beautiful after her rather physically ugly transformations into Quinn and Harding that i mentioned earlier already. One of the most beautiful and probably also most talented actresses from her age group now. She is still in her 20s, maybe not anymore when you read this. Okay the director here of this French production is Nick Knight. You don't have to recognize the name, but he worked a lot with Björk, Lady Gaga and Kanye West, with the latter also on his most recent big project, so certainly a big name. And he has also directed fashion shows already during his long career, so his involvement here with a commercial that focuses on beauty mostly is not surprising at all. A good watch for everybody who likes Robbie and I give this one a thumbs-up. Go check it out.
