The ending of the new Netflix sci-fi adventure movie Spaceman is somewhat ambiguous, especially regarding the fate of Adam Sandler's Jakub protagonist. The unique and existential Spaceman was directed by Johan Renck, known for his exceptional work on Chernobyl (2019), Breaking Bad (2009–2011), The Walking Dead (2010), Vikings (2013), and Bloodline (2015). Despite Renck's impressive filmography, Spaceman has received mixed reviews from critics off the bat, earning a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 50%.
Spaceman stars Sandler in another notable dramatic performance seen in previous works such as Uncut Gems, Punch-Drunk Love, and Hustle. Sandler's Jakub receives the unfortunate news that his wife Lenka, played by Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan, wants to divorce him while he's halfway on an 8-month solo mission to outer space. Jakub is tasked with gathering samples of the mysterious yet mesmerizing Chopra Cloud that randomly became visible in the Earth's sky. During his trip, Jakub's emotional distress worsens regarding his marital status,...

Like Raj, who was known for struggling to initiate a conversation with women, especially in the earlier episodes, Kunal Nayyar found himself in a similar boat when his dream girl arrived on set. Being a fan of The Wonder Years, which was one of his favorite shows growing up, Nayyar confessed that its lead, Danica Mckellar, was his first celebrity crush.

“He is one of the most bankable, dependable stars on Netflix“, said Netflix’s CEO Ted Sarandos when asked about their decision to sign Adam Sandler in the mid-2010s. To say that they were correct in their assessment would be an understatement. Even though Sandler’s reputation hasn’t improved greatly among critics, even though he has proven to be an impeccable performer with the right material, he still garners major numbers for the streaming giant.

Interestingly, Sandler isn’t the lone impeccable actor, whose more successful releases are inversely proportional to their critical reception as Mark Wahlberg is surprisingly in the same boat.

Sci-fi movies make up one of Hollywood's biggest markets, and there are many exciting releases to look forward to in 2024. The best sci-fi movies allow viewers to explore vast and imaginative worlds, providing a sense of escapism. 2023 saw several successful sci-fi movies debut, from franchise installments like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to the original film The Creator. 2024 has already had an upward trend for the genre, with far more releases slated.
2024 will or has already seen book adaptations, video game adaptations, original sci-fi films, and the return of major franchises like Alien, Planet of the Apes, Godzilla, and Mad Max. These movies are set to be directed by some of the best talent in the film industry, including Denis Villeneuve. However, many 2024 movies have been delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. While many of 2024's films ended up set, several were pushed back again. Nevertheless, 2024's sci-fi lineup...

An unexplained impact leaves a mission to Saturn’s moon, Titan, in catastrophic danger, with Affleck and a skeleton crew struggling to keep a grip on reality
This is a very solid, if low-budget, addition to the sad-spaceman canon that already includes Interstellar, Ad Astra and Spaceman; it is also similar to Moon in the cyclical rhythms and psychological disintegration of its lonely voyager. This is astronaut John (Casey Affleck) who wakes up from hibernation at three-month intervals on his mission to Saturn’s moon, Titan, with an invariably nauseated and put-upon look that is apparently channelling paparazzi shots of his brother, Ben.
In order to reach their destination, John, his ramrod commanding officer Franks (Laurence Fishburne) and engineer Nash (Tomer Capone) must pull off a dicey slingshot manoeuvre to exploit Jupiter’s gravity. But adding to John’s homesick reveries of Zoe (Emily Beecham), the woman he left behind,...

Adam Sandler is best known for his slapstick comedies that do little to satisfy critics, but has, nonetheless, turned it into a brand. The actor has also surprised fans with small detours into dramatic territory with films like Spaceman, Uncut Gems, and Punch-Drunk Love. However, he has managed to balance his brand of comedies.
One of his earliest roles as an SNL alum was the comedy Airheads. Starring along with Brendan Fraser and Steve Buscemi, Sandler was the main draw due to his time on SNL. He reportedly used this clout to make sure the director cast Fraser, though he was a relative unknown at the time and was only known for Encino Man.

Netflix appears to have streamlined its Emea theatrical distribution operations, following news that local exec Hamish Moseley has left the company.
The platform would not comment on whether his role would be re-filled or on suggestions that his duties would now be handled out of the U.S.
The company is understood to want to continue its relationships with UK and European distributors including Altitude, Tri Pictures, Lucky Red, 24 Builder, but how is less clear.
Moseley joined Netflix as Emea Director of Distribution in early 2022, reporting to Director of Distribution Spencer Klein, with an initial brief to oversee the theatrical release of around 30 features and documentaries in the region.
High profile Netflix titles released theatrically in Emea under Moseley’s watch included awards contenders and winners The Power Of The Dog and All Quiet On The Western Front, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, The Society Of The Snow and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Romance author Emily Henry now has five of her most recent novels set to be adapted for the big and small screens. Henry went on a rom-com writing spree that began with Beach Read, which came out in the summer of 2020. She has published a book a year since then, with People We Meet on Vacation coming out in 2021, Book Lovers arriving in 2022, Happy Place released in 2023 and Funny Story hitting shelves this year.
Three of Henry’s books received adaptation optioning deals for films, with two of them attaching directors. Starting in 2022, multiple studios made the decision to adapt various Emily Henry books into movies. The Writers’ and Actors’ strikes likely delayed any moves in casting, but a fourth novel has just been optioned by Jennifer Lopez’s production company for a television series adaptation at Netflix.

The Killers returned to the United States for the second phase of the tour, which started on August 3 at Lollapalooza.
This North American leg of the tour included a highly anticipated residency in Las Vegas and the band also headlined several prominent music festivals this summer, such as the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Boston Calling, and New York’s Governors Ball. The tour will wrap up with four performances in Mexico in mid-October.

Iceage lead singer Elias Rønnenfelt is set to release his first album under his given name. Titled Heavy Glory, it’s out October 25th via Escho and features the new single, “No One Else.” Stream it below.
Work on the new album began in the spring of 2022, when Rønnenfelt announced he would play shows anywhere in Europe because he was “sick and tired of not being able to do what I do” during the tail end of the pandemic. While on the road, he would write new songs and play them the next day.
Rønnenfelt later recorded Heavy Glory in Copenhagen, sharing co-producer duties with longtime collaborator Nis Bysted. Danish punk veteran Peter Peter and singers Fauzia and Joanne Robertson contributed to the album.
The acoustic guitar-driven “No One Else” is a wistful, contemplative tune in which Rønnenfelt laments a missed romantic connection: “I’m taking sleeping pills to shut...

Love You’s trailer features snippets of Sandler saying “I love you” from the stage in various ways. “You guys are the best. I love you,” he says in one moment. “I love you. I need you. Help me.”
Later, the performer appears to sum up his special for the crowd. “So anyways, I talk a lot, and then I sing, and we do a bunch of shit,” Sandler quips. “All right, here it goes.” The trailer later shows him playing guitar.

Nearly six years after the release of his last comedy special, Adam Sandler is returning to Netflix with “Adam Sandler: Love You.” The comedy special directed by “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems” co-director Josh Safdie will premiere globally on the streamer Aug. 27.
The first trailer for the special shows Sandler in a surprisingly intimate theater rather than a large arena. After joking with the audience a bit, he gets down to the brass tacks of what everyone can expect.
“Anyway, I talk a lot and then I sing and then we do a bunch of s–t. All right, so here it goes,” Sandler says.
The ever-moving camera then cuts between Sandler onstage with mic in hand, closeups of him signing shirts and a car driving away as its being chased by a crowd of people. “We’ve lost control,” Sandler says as a dog appears from backstage and happily greets the audience.

Co-written by the screenwriter of Moon, Slingshot stars Casey Affleck, Laurence Fishburne and Tomer Capone as fractious astronauts. Here’s a trailer:
To the ever-growing ‘unhappy men in space’ sci-fi subgenre we can now add Slingshot – a psychological thriller starring Casey Affleck, Laurence Fishburne and The Boys’ Tomer Capone as a trio of stressed-out astronauts.
The explorers are on a mission to Saturn’s moon, Titan, when something goes awry and they’re forced to attempt a risky slingshot manoeuvre in order to reach their destination. Meanwhile, Affleck’s character begins to hallucinate. Oh, and Fishburne’s brought a revolver with him for some reason.
Aside from a cracking cast, Slingshot has a good pedigree behind the camera. Its director is Sweden’s Mikael Håfström, director of such genre pieces as 1408, based on the Stephen King short story of the same name, The Rite, an enjoyably daft exorcism horror from 2011, and Escape Plan,...

Press Play Films has revealed its latest project, “Spaceman,” a genre-bending film that blends sci-fi, fantasy and coming-of-age elements.
The film, written and directed by emerging filmmaker Dan Abramovici, features a cast including Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash”), Mena Massoud (“Aladdin”) and Trevor Copp.
The story follows an artist’s journey to reclaim his lost creative passion. Copp stars as the titular Spaceman, who must confront his imposter syndrome (played by Simmons) and team up with his passion (Massoud) to rediscover himself. The narrative explores themes of identity, artistic expression and mental health.
“Spaceman” aims to combine classic Hollywood techniques reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton with cutting-edge practical effects and hopes to draw comparisons to the work of Michel Gondry and Baz Luhrmann with its approach. It employs an array of techniques, including mime, stop motion, classic animation and theatrical elements.

Production on the Adam Sandler-led sequel Happy Gilmore 2 will begin soon, several decades after the release of the 1995 golfing comedy.
1995’s Happy Gilmore was one of the films upon which Adam Sandler built his movie stardom and decades later, he’s returning for a follow-up. News of the project first surfaced in March with the reveal that a script was being written. Then, in May we heard that Happy Gilmore 2 had gotten the go-ahead from Netflix.
Given how the change in leadership at Netflix’s film division has slowed down the progress of some other projects such as The Old Guard 2, Sandler’s return to the world of Happy Gilmore 2 seems to have suffered no such impediment as we’ve learned that the production will go before cameras in September.
Adam Sandler is of course returning as the title character, a well-meaning everyman with a slight anger problem.

Adam Sandler's "Big Daddy" is now streaming on Netflix, a heartwarming comedy where he plays an unlikely father. Despite negative Rotten Tomatoes score, the film was a box office hit and paved the way for Sandler's later down-to-earth characters. Big Daddy's 39% critic score doesn't reflect audience sentiment, as it's a feel-good movie with heart and humor, showcasing Sandler's versatile acting talents.
One of the best Adam Sandler comedies ever made is now on Netflix despite its negative Rotten Tomatoes score. Sandler, who has gotten more into dramatic roles in recent years with his leading performances in films such as Uncut Gems (2019), Hustle (2022), and Spaceman (2024), is still celebrated for his timeless comedy classics such as Happy Gilmore (1996), The Waterboy (1998), and Billy Madison (1995). Sandler has several upcoming movies in both the dramatic and comedy genre including an untitled Noah Baumbach film, an untitled Safdie Brothers project, and a Happy Gilmore sequel.

The first season of the Netflix anthology series Beef turned out to be a massive success by any metric.
The sort of buzzed-about prestige show that streamers have been seeking with increasing desperation in recent years, Beef was as big with critics and award committees as it was with subscribers.
While the series has yet to officially be renewed, the move is an inevitable no-brainer for Netflix.
Of course, the show will face the usual sophomore season challenges that accompany the anthology format.
We don't know much about how Beef will tackle those issues from a storytelling perspective.
But it looks like the bigwigs who control the purse strings are doing their part by going all-in on casting.

Exclusive: Following a breakout first season that included a sweep at the Emmys, the Netflix and A24 anthology series Beef is zeroing on some high-profile talent for its second season. Sources tell Deadline that Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan are in negotiations to star in Season 2.

It’s already been a great year for sci-fi, thanks to blockbusters such as Dune: Part Two and Civil War, as well as goofball flicks like Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and any other movies with the word “empire” in the title. Sure, it’s not all perfect. Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson, has been pulled from the release schedule and there’s no way that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will release this year. Godzilla Minus One has been dethroned by Netflix's new French shark thriller Under Paris as the #1 movie streaming. Under Paris may not be a critical favorite like Godzilla Minus One, but it delivers on shark attack sequences for viewers. Sandler shines in dramatic roles like Uncut Gems, proving he's more than just a comedy legend. Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix continues Sandler's streak of diverse roles, mixing comedies and dramas. Sandler's future includes more collaborations with top directors, hinting at even more dramatic roles ahead.

2024 will bring a wave of novel adaptations to screens, with Netflix leading the charge in creating new movies and series from bestselling books. From Harlan Coben's "Fool Me Once" to Scott Westerfeld's "Uglies," 2024 will see a variety of novels making their way to theaters and streaming platforms. Novel adaptations like "The Expatriates" and "The Three-Body Problem" have garnered positive reviews for their creative storytelling and engaging performances.
2024 will see a significant number of novels and stories adapted into feature films and TV shows across a range of platforms. Production companies often look to literature for inspiration to create new movies and shows with bestselling books having an established fan base and a fleshed-out story to adapt. A Happy Gilmore sequel has been greenlit at Netflix, with Adam Sandler returning to star. More details here.
Back in March, there were reports that a sequel to Adam Sandler’s 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore had been written, and actor Christopher McDonald had read it. Given the popularity of the film, it seemed to be a question not of if, but when.
We now have the answer, as the sequel has officially been greenlit by Netflix.
The original film, directed by regular collaborator Denis Dugan and written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, followed Sandler as the titular character, an aspiring ice hockey player who enters a high-profile golfing tournament to earn money to buy his grandmother’s house.
Though his angry outbursts and profane patter initially cause outrage, his skill and tenacity eventually win through in the end. Featuring memorable supporting turns from the much missed Carl Weathers, the imposing...

Netflix is getting ready to kick off the first-quarter 2024 earnings season for Hollywood on April 18, and the momentum of its subscriber growth, advertising tier and password-sharing crackdown will be among the focus areas for investors and Wall Street analysts.
Investors will also keep an ear out for possible commentary on content strategy, including a film division reorganization under new head Dan Lin. Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that the features division will now be split up by genre — such as sci-fi, rom-com and faith-based. Among Netflix’s first-quarter originals were such series as 3 Body Problem and Avatar: The Last Airbender, and such films as Damsel and Spaceman.
The company’s stock has been on the upswing so far in 2024, gaining 30 percent year-to-date through Monday to close at $607.15, compared to a 6.7 percent gain in the broad-based S&P 500 stock index. However, several analysts have boosted their stock price targets...

Loving Adam Sandler means making your peace with the actor's wildly inconsistent output. It's not like The Sandman has ever been a critical darling; even during his rise to superstardom in the '90s, "Happy Gilmore" and "The Wedding Singer" were the only movies of his that you could reasonably call well-reviewed (and that's coming from an ardent "Billy Madison" defender). But the films that he's churned out under his Happy Madison Productions, which was founded in 1999, have been all over the place quality-wise. Even most die-hard Sandlites probably wouldn't go to the mattresses over stinkers like "Jack and Jill" and "Grown Ups 2."
That's only become doubly true since Sandler entered his alliance with Netflix in the 2010s. Sometimes, you end up with little more than "content" for viewers to stream and immediately forget, but you can also get remarkably good stuff like "The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected...

John Carter and Wall-e director Andrew Stanton is working on a fascinating new sci-fi film. If In The Blink Of An Eye sticks to the script, we could be in for something special.
His career stretching back to the late 1980s, Andrew Stanton is best known for his animated work at Pixar, whether it’s as writer (1995’s ground-breaking Toy Story) or writer-director.
As a live-action filmmaker, he’s probably almost as well known for 2012’s John Carter, a hugely expensive sci-fi adventure based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ A Princess Of Mars. One of those films that seemed to have vultures circling it before it was even released, John Carter was ultimately a box office misfire.
In the wake of it, Stanton kept himself busy with animated projects at Disney and Pixar, but has also found time to write or direct the odd TV episode, including instalments of Stranger Things,...

Happy Gilmore remains an iconic Adam Sandler film with legendary cameos like Bob Barker and Richard Kiel providing memorable moments. The film showcases Sandler's roots in comedy with classic quotes and a unique approach to golf that set it apart as a sports comedy. Professional golfers and broadcasters such as Lee Trevino and Verne Lundquist had small roles in the film, adding to the legitimacy of the professional golf atmosphere.
Happy Gilmore remains one of the most iconic golf movies and best Adam Sandler movies of all time, partly because of its legendary cameos. The 1996 comedy classic features some of Adam Sandler's best quotes such as the iconic one-liners, "The price is wong, b–ch!" and "You eat pieces of s–t for breakfast?". While Sandler has certainly evolved over the years into an impressive dramatic actor, seen most recently in Netflix's space drama Spaceman, his hilarious roots with classics such as Billy Madison,...

Happy Gilmore 2 is in early development to follow the cult classic original, providing a potential redemption for Sandler's recent movie missteps. Sandler understands the pressure to make Happy Gilmore 2 a success, aiming to bring the right energy and create something audiences will enjoy. There's no guarantee that Happy Gilmore 2 will live up to the hype, as nostalgia sequels can be tricky and may risk tarnishing the legacy of the original.
Adam Sandler is already planning his next movie—the long-anticipated Happy Gilmore 2—and after his last project got a 50% "Rotten" score on Rotten Tomatoes, this sequel is likely the best way to go. The original Happy Gilmore movie was a great success and has since become a cult classic. Naturally, in the decade of reboots and sequels, a continued story for Sandler's Happy has been in high demand. We finally have confirmation that the movie is in the early stages of development,...
