  • Warning: Spoilers
Just learned ABC is cancelling this series. As with Whiskey Cavalier, Stumptown, Grand Hotel, and The Baker and the Beauty they're dumb. Show was intelligently made. BOO on you ABC.
  • Most reviews here are just biased and only the 1st episode is out! Personally I dont care who the actors are or their age. To me, even for 1st episode they established a lot of important things, like who everyone is, and the exposition wasnt too bad in my opinion.

This is a semi-serious show about a woman who wants to do good in the world. This backfires many times in the first episode, as everyone has problems with her. I find that great, as the drama is earned and moves the story forward.

Rebel also had 3 marriages and several kids, which is kind of new from my perspective, for a protagonist. Pretty much everyone in her family has an important role, like cop, lawyer, doctor etc. Which I find it to be very hilarious. It's like she has built a small army from every occupation in her disposal! This is one of the few liberties you need to give the show in order to continue. And I'm fine with that.

I can't wait for the next episode. It would be a joy to watch!
  • Katey Sagal is as good as ever, and her character's (Rebel) dynamic with the rest of the cast makes for an entertaining watch. Recommended.
  • This is a series where everyone in my house puts down their phones and computers and is mesmerized by the fast pace of the show. The acting is unmatched on TV - the entire cast is good. It's interesting, thought provoking, and entertaining. Katy Segal has proven herself to be a lead actress and she is a pleasure to watch. Andy Garcia is always incredible. What's wrong with you ABC? There are a lot of fans out there after only a few episodes.. Hoping this gets picked up by another network.
  • The cast alone is like Wild. It's has. Katey, John, James, Matt (LONG list of performances ) and Andy G!!!! Married with children, Northern Exposure, Los Vegas, Matt - too many and Andy G... Wow.

..it good. Tugs at the heart. We all what to fight the good fight, see the good guys win...so far it predictable. I hope it gets better. The supporting cast is pretty good too.
  • Pilots are always iffy because characters and premises are being introduced. If after 3rd episode, it hasn't improved, I'll stop watching. That's how shows on ABC are, I mostly don't watch them.

I like the main characters. But what I especially love is that Mary McDonnell and Adam Arkin are on this show. 2 of my all-time favs!

I LOVE this show. The premise is valuable & inspirational. The cast is phenomenal. There is so much heart in this show. It just needs a chance to continue to blossom. Rebel has stories to tell & I want to see them told. Please give this show a real chance.
  • Finally sat down from work and family to start this series. Now I see ABC already canceled it? Why? Those who cannot watch it weekly due to work and life don't even have a chance. Why watch it if it is already canceled? Not cool.
  • I love this show, negative reviews are uncalled for. Characters are developing well, some acting better than others, but Corbett and Sagal and Garcia are great!

    Can't wait for more episodes.
  • I think Katey Sagal nails this type of role. The tough take no prisoners type of character. This is of course tamed down a great deal from her role as Gemma Teller in Son's of Anarchy. I think she thrives in this type of role. The future episodes will only tell if the writing holds up to keep the audience interest. So far in my opinion the producers got the lead character right.
  • The trivia for this show says Katey Sagal picked this show over a number of other projects that were pitched to her, which makes me wonder how bad the other scripts were. They packed the pilot with star power but it doesn't make up for the cheesiness. I'm going to give it another chance next week and hope it gets better.
  • Why did you Cancel It this is a Graet Show. Kate Sagal Plays Rebel Perfectly She Has Erin Better then Erin herself, Andy Garcia is Wonderful The Characters Blend So Well with Each Other.
  • Warning: Spoilers
The writing on Rebel is sub-par. Lots of inconsistencies in the characters.

Rebel is a die-hard fighter for people and the environment, yet she burns her husband's clothes in a backyard fire pit? Wouldn't she donate them to help people and not pollute senselessly?
  • So I was excited to see Katey in a new series. Only two minutes in the first episode and I couldn't help myself raising my eyebrows and roll my eyes. Yes, this is another Allie McBeal meets This Is Us, with some drama purchased from one of the dozen FBI series. Sorry, this doesn't cut it anymore in 2021.

Why can't they be original? Why do they always recycle all ideas and try to spin it as a new idea?

I wish I could say something nicer about it, but I really can't. Another show that will probably get axed after 1 season.

Cancelled before it even got a chance...I think so far so good.

I think the premise is good, great actors, decent script (I got a Boston Legal vibe during the pilot)

Great to see a powerful, confident & compassionate lead female character.....hope that's not the reason of cancellation.

Hopefully the ABC will change their minds, or allow it to be picked up by another network.
  • This is a very cheesy show with unreal and exxagerated dialogues and characters.. Despite all the stars and their talent, it sounds cheap and unworked.. I want to watch and enjoy it, but I just cant get in and flow with the cast and the script. It is so unreal..

I'd rather undergo a four hour root canal procedure than to have to endure watching another episode of this show.

Makes "Young Sheldon" look like Shakespeare.
  • Rebel is A Great Woman! She Is Real, Gutsy, Loving And Never Quits Fighting For Good! It's Easily My Favourite Show On ABC Network!!! My Favourite New Show Of 2021 Season! The stories are REAL!!! The Actors Are Top Notch!!! The Writing Is Superb!!! I Wait Like A Child Waiting For Christmas Morning For Thursday's To Roll By To See A New Episode! To The Other Major Networks, PLEASE PICK THIS SHOW UP!!!!
  • Great history. Great characters. It just happens to have some tecnicall isues. It looks a little "cheap"... I hope the show does good from pilot episode on.
  • Love Katey Sagal and John Corbett!! Enjoyed the Erin Brocovich angle. Wish it had a few more seasons!!
  • Where to begin? Rebel isn't necessarily a bad idea, but a show inspired by Erin Brockovich does not belong on basic cable. The worst part is the painful waste of talent. Katey deserves better, Kevin Zegers deserves better, and Andy Garcia deserves 100 times better.

And then there's Marc Webb, who has unjustly been relegated to TV directing after Sony manhandled his Amazing Spider-Man movies. It's not right and my heart goes out to him.

Finally, to talk briefly about the "wokeness" of it all, it does feel a bit forced. I don't know about Erin's kids, but Rebel's are all different races (if I'm not mistaken) and that is extremely uncommon in real life.

There are other small issues as well, such as feminist scenes that are a bit too overt and the main character behaving outlandishly. Overall, this show just makes me want to watch the Julia Roberts movie again.

Rebel never had a legitimate chance on ABC, and as a result, is a disservice to almost everyone involved.
  • Had I not known that Erin B produced, etc this series, I'd have guessed it within 2 minutes of episode 1. I'm afraid that Erin has been so bent on promoting herself that the potential for a great show has been lost. I love Katie S...but Rebel comes on just too strong...; fists on hips, etc. ...an angry woman that never uses her charm...just her defiant personality. I'm sure that Rebel can be more multifaceted. ...we women usual are!

Then there's my least fav character...Dr Misha. Where to begin... ...talks too fast, rarely breathes between utterances...and slips/slides from being in the least bit like-able. I wouldn't want to be her patient. Maybe that's why they don't show any.

So here we have it...; ..."hands on hips"..."talks too fast" and side characters who get lost in the shadow of the mighty Rebel oak!!!

This show... these actors... this premise and these potential storylines are too good... it belongs on TV!!! #bringbackrebel.
  • In today's times and world all of us need hope and a lift up with voices fighting for the little guy to right wrongs, this new "ABC" series "Rebel" tries it's hand at just that. Katey Sagal(Peg's "MWC") stars as Annie Bello a worn past her prime still sexy and attractive legal activists who always fights for justice in a blue collar type of way. Sure this gal comes with baggage as she's been married three times with different children from each marriage still she's got a heart of gold. The episodes give hope as it's a crusade and legal fight for justice for folks and it's a watch if your a fan of Katey Sagal as she again does a character in a raw go against the grain type of way.

I wasn't even going to try Rebel, but I see Katie's talent and appeal. Episode 2 was a stew made up of too many characters doing too many things going in too many directions. It's not that I even dislike the show, I just can't make myself want to see another episode. Episode 2 was staring into a disco ball looking for entertainment. I'm guessing they're all going to be a lot like that.
