A small town sheriff's worst nightmare comes true when his homicidal son escapes from a psychiatric hospital. An intense manhunt ensues as the dark secret behind the son's evil past becomes revealed.
I accidentally stumbled upon this movie while I was looking for something to watch last night and it kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole duration. The acting is pretty top notch. The protagonist's somewhat concussed behavior creates a very eerie atmosphere. The production quality is actually fantastic for a 'low budget' film and I was pleasantly surprised that the gore was neither over the top nor completely obfuscated. It was just there, it served it's purpose. No gratuitous shots. Both Directing and editing were brilliant.
The writing itself was solid. That's especially obvious towards the end. The twists don't feel cheap, nothing looks like it came out of the blue. Everything builds up to make you uncomfortable about everything you know.
You're never entirely comfortable with what you know or what you think may be happening but you have this distinct feeling that something is off..
...and when the credits roll in! I can honestly say I haven't hated a fictional character this much in what could possibly be a decade. The complete and utter injustice of it all left me glaring at my screen. I'm still angry thinking about the last 10 to 15 minutes of the movie. Not because I'm disappointed with how it all turned out but because the crew created a work of fiction that was powerful enough to make me 'hate'.
