Marking Singer’s fifth collaboration with writer Robert Dean Klein, the film follows Mitch James (Falahee), who was once the golden boy of horror fiction, until an unshakable writer’s block brought his meteoric rise to a halt. Years later, with his career in ruins and only his fiercely devoted fan and partner Natalie (Moran) by his side, Mitch stumbles into a dark and inexplicable event, after which, the words begin to flow again. But inspiration proves fleeting and something shadowy and malevolent seems to be demanding more in return. As Mitch becomes entangled in a chilling cycle of creation and consequence,...

Temptation Island is officially returning for Season 2, and while I’m excited, there’s one question that keeps on lingering in my mind. How is the show ever going to work without Mark L. Walberg? He has done a lot for the reality show over the years with his remarkable hosting.
Walberg isn’t just the guy who introduces challenges or wraps up episodes, but he’s the heart of Temptation Island. No matter how wild things get, he knows how to bring depth and empathy into situations. That’s rare, and while everyone is tuned in for the drama, it’s actually Walberg who keeps us coming back.
Can Temptation Island really work without Mark L. Walberg?
Let’s be real – Temptation Island has all the necessary ingredients of a messy dating show. It has couples on the rocks, single people looking for love (or fun), and enough drama to fill your group chat.

Martin Scorsese’s Favourite Alfred Hitchcock Film(Photo Credit –Wikimedia)
It’s no shock that Martin Scorsese holds deep admiration for Alfred Hitchcock, a classic example of one master of the craft recognizing another. But what’s curious isn’t the respect itself, it’s how seldom that admiration bleeds directly into Scorsese’s work. His cinematic universe isn’t exactly littered with overt Hitchcockian fingerprints.
Alfred Hitchcock and Martin Scorsese: Two Paths Through the Labyrinth
Alfred Hitchcock’s playground was a twisted hall of mirrors, full of psychological games and taut. His characters were often pawns in elaborate cat-and-mouse setups, where every step had weight and every glance carried secrets. That kind of mechanical precision and manipulation of tension isn’t something Scorsese regularly leaned into. His thrillers, as visceral and unforgettable as they are, don’t quite orbit the same planet as Hitchcock’s finely tuned fear factories.

Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively in ‘Another Simple Favor’ (Credit: Lorenzo Sisti © 2025 Amazon Content Services LLC)
A few years back, comedy director Paul Feig ventured into the thriller genre with the surprisingly good A Simple Favor. Well, he’s teamed up with A Simple Favor costars Blake Lively (It Ends with Us) and Anna Kendrick (Woman of the Hour) once again for the sequel, which is appropriately called Another Simple Favor.
Another Simple Favor picks up with our heroines five years after the events of A Simple Favor, with Emily (Lively) in jail for murder and Stephanie (Kendrick) hocking the book she wrote about the whole experience. At one of Stephanie’s promotional book signings, Emily shows up unannounced, out of jail on appeal. She invites Stephanie to be the Maid of Honor at her wedding that is taking place on the Italian island of Capri (what?). After a combination...

Back when flip phones ruled and crime shows were everywhere, Monk stood out like a sore thumb, one that had to be washed 27 times. Adrian Monk wasn’t your typical detective. He was a genius with germ issues, a human magnifying glass with 312 phobias, and the reason millions of us developed an odd respect for hand wipes. Tony Shalhoub made Monk iconic, but the rest of the gang, Natalie, Stottlemeyer, Randy, and even Sharona, brought their own brand of chaos, charm, and comedy.
For eight glorious seasons, they solved murders, wrestled personal baggage, and somehow made Ocd oddly heartwarming. After the show wrapped in 2009, fans waited years for a comeback. Then boom, 2023’s Mr. Monk’s Last Case dropped like a nostalgic mic, reuniting the core crew. It reminded us just how much we missed this quirky crime-solving family. Now it’s 2025, and we’re snooping around like Monk himself...

We’ve always loved setting trends at The Film Stage and are accordingly chuffed that, nine months after we screened a 35mm print at the Roxy, Roman Polanski’s late-career triumph The Ghost Writer comes to the Criterion Channel in next month’s Coastal Thrillers, a series that does what it says on the tin: The Lady from Shanghai, Key Largo, The Long Goodbye, The Fog, and the other best film of 2010, Scorsese’s Shutter Island. It pairs well with Noir and the Blacklist featuring films by Joseph Losey, Fritz Lang, Jules Dassin, and so on. Retrospectives are held for Terry Southern, Kathryn Bigelow, Jem Cohen, and (just in time for Caught By the Tides) Jia Zhangke, while Spike Lee gets his own Adventures In Moviegoing.
For recent restorations, Antonioni’s Il Grido and Anthony Harvey’s Dutchman appear. Criterion Editions include The Runner, Touchez pas au grisbi, Godzilla vs.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, legendary film critic Pauline Kael grouped together a new generation of filmmakers by calling them The Movie Brats. Her grouping of young and influential filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola and Brian De Palma would come to define the shift in the movie-making sensibilities of Hollywood and herald the birth of the modern blockbuster with movies like Jaws and The Godfather.
One of the most impactful directors of the Movie Brats generation, Martin Scorsese, has been making complicated and entertaining films for more than 50 years. Many of his movies are considered the best of all time, and his most flawless movies are the ones that are able to beautifully and tragically capture the darkest sides of the human condition.

Is today Leonardo DiCaprio Day? I ask because DiCaprio is at the center of another massive Hollywood headline after returning to YouTube to share the trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, One Battle After Another. According to reports, Disney is close to sealing a deal for Martin Scorsese‘s latest drama, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt, and Dwayne Johnson leading the cast. The untitled project, set in Hawaii, has the following description: Imagine Robert De Niro’s Goodfellas’ Jimmy the Gent character, but as a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss, also based on a real figure, who battled encroaching rivals for control of organized crime in Hawaii.
In Deadline‘s exclusive report, the outlet describes Scorsese’s latest project in vivid detail. The pitch, written by Nick Bilton, includes crime of all kinds, with shady characters operating a syndicate from outlandish places. It “focuses on a turbulent time on...

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are frequent collaborators, and one of their most exciting projects was their first, 2002’s Gangs of New York. The crime period drama was lauded by audiences and critics alike for its writing and performances, and featured a stellar cast.

The later years of Martin Scorsese's career have been filled with experiments and easy swings, and Shutter Island thankfully falls into the former category. Not that Shutter Island is anything groundbreaking, but in the context of Scorsese's filmography, it gives him a chance to lean into the detective film noir themes he has been toying with his whole career. Shutter Island is a puzzle-box mystery thriller that relies on its oppressive moods to trap the audience and uses a solid Leonardo DiCaprio to catapult us into an inescapable labyrinth. Scorsese's direction remains remarkably vibrant and youthful, mischievously teasing the central mystery subtly.
Shutter Island follows DiCaprio and his partner, played by Mark Ruffalo, as they investigate the disappearance of someone with a mental health condition on the island. The movie lovingly plays into its genre tropes and gives Scorsese his chance to don his hat and light up a cigar to smoke.

Sometimes, a twist is the best part of a feature film. When the whole story leads to a big reveal that changes the way you see the movie, it's like a brand-new world of storytelling that just opened up. Sometimes, great twists can change a movie's genre, like in Parasite, which switches to a thriller halfway; other times, great twists make people want to rewatch the movie, knowing what they know now, such as in Fight Club or Shutter Island. Some movies are even improved by their plot twists, making them better in the long run.

The power of a great movie is its ability to capture elements of humanity and imagination in a short period of time, connecting with the audience by crafting stories that are able to hold audiences' attention from beginning to end. One of the best ways that a film can capture an audience is with a twist, something that completely reshapes the narrative of the movie and leaves the audience to question everything that they saw before.
Whether a twist happens halfway through a movie, shifting the narrative and structure of the rest of the film, or at the end of the movie, recontextualizing everything that came before and drawing audiences to immediately want to watch the film again, these films are some of the ones that stick in the mind of audiences. Some of the best movies of all time are the ones that offer a shocking twist for the audience.

Did You Know Kate Winslet Convinced Leonardo DiCaprio To Take Up Titanic? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Leonardo DiCaprio almost didn’t play Jack Dawson in Titanic. But his co-star Kate Winslet wasn’t going to let that occur. Before the film became one of the greatest blockbusters in history, DiCaprio was skeptical about joining the project. Winslet, however, made certain he rethought.
By the mid-1990s, DiCaprio had built a strong prominence with flicks like Romeo + Juliet and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. He was already seen as a proficient actor, but Titanic was distinct. It was a large-scale Hollywood romance, and the Shutter Island star wasn’t entirely persuaded it was the suitable move. Director James Cameron wanted DiCaprio for the role, but even his chatter with the actor wasn’t enough to guarantee him. That’s when Winslet took affairs into her own hands.

Turns out, when you’ve won Best Picture, most of the time, the only place you can go after that high is down.
Opening this weekend at the box office is “Mickey 17,” the first film from director Bong Joon Ho since his film won Best Picture for “Parasite” back in 2019. “Parasite” was something of a unicorn, an international film that crossed all borders and became a $259 million global commercial hit and an awards circuit sensation. Even with Robert Pattinson helping his cause, that’s going to be a tough benchmark to surpass. Warner Bros. is projecting a $40-50 million global opening weekend.
The difference this time is director Bong is working with a major studio, Warner Bros., rather than indie distributor Neon, and “Mickey 17” will open wide on 3,400 screens domestically, whereas “Parasite” at its peak only hit 2,000.
But when a director’s movie wins Best Picture, does their next one perform better?...

An actor whose bravado has graced the silver screen for decades, Clint Eastwood is best known for his tough and apathetic characters. His roles became the archetype for cinematic heroes of the 60s and 70s, shaping an entire generation's understanding of heroism. However, in The Beguiled, Eastwood takes on a role that defies his usual tough-guy persona for something more vulnerable and exposed.
Set against the backdrop of the Civil War, The Beguiled is a psychological thriller that follows Eastwood’s John McBurney, a wounded Union soldier who finds refuge at a girls’ boarding school in Mississippi. Contrary to traditional war films, The Beguiled is a feministic exploration of power dynamics between soldiers and the women left behind. Through isolation and desire, the film explores how vulnerability and manipulation shape the struggle for survival.
The Beguiled Is an Atypical Exploration of Gender Dynamics
The Beguiled isn’t your typical Civil War film.

For such a long career, Martin Scorsese has an incredibly high batting average when it comes to the quality of his films. Across 26 narrative features and 16 documentaries, the maestro's work is rarely met with anything less than effusive praise from critics and audiences alike. Looking at his career through the imperfect lens of Rotten Tomatoes scores, his films rarely have anything below a consensus of 75%, and even movies which were divisive at the time, like 1999's Bringing Out the Dead, have been looked upon more favorably in the years since their release.
But still, even the greatest artists are bound to hit snags from time to time, and one of Scorsese's most divisive films recently celebrated its 15th anniversary: 2010's Shutter Island, a psychological thriller starring one of the director's most treasured collaborators, Leonardo DiCaprio. With a Tomatometer score of 69%, it's the third-lowest-scoring film he's directed, ahead of his...

There have been endless shows that have managed to tickle the brains of the audience with a thought-provoking concept. But when a show brings corporate culture out into the open, it becomes far too relatable for many. The same happened when Severance premiered on Apple TV+ in 2022 and brought forth the dark side of corporate life with a rather eerie twist.
Adam Scott in Severance | Credits: Apple TV+
Leading the show was Adam Scott, who gained a lot of applause for his portrayal, and the show itself became one of the highest-rated out there. However, a recently resurfaced video has fans talking, in which the actor can be seen pitching the plot of the show long before it even aired.
Did Adam Scott predict Severance years before it even aired?
Adam Scott has done a number of projects in the industry that have established his true versatility as an actor.

"I just thought, I love gothics, let's have a little fun. Let's do a gothic." Those are the words of author Dennis Lehane speaking about what inspired him to write "Shutter Island," his acclaimed novel that would ultimately be adapted for the screen in 2010 by Martin Scorsese, arguably our greatest living filmmaker. Lehane, speaking on a featurette for the film's Blu-ray release titled "Behind the Shutters," explained that he was trying to reckon with the state of the world in the early 2000s and decided to tell a tale set in 1954 at the height of McCarthyism.

For decades, Leonardo DiCaprio has kept Hollywood on its toes by delivering the perfect blend of tabloid-worthy bad-boy charm and being idolized as a timeless movie star of classic and legendary films. His rise to fame following James Cameron’s 1997 opus Titanic was not in vain as the actor then kept proving himself as the industry’s next figurative golden goose.

In the immediate aftermath of Titanic, DiCaprio threw himself into a rigorous rite of passage to challenge his reputation as a heartthrob by working with the biggest names that the industry had to offer. Shutter Island is arguably one of the best thriller movies ever made and easily one of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s best collaborations. Based on Dennis Lehane’s novel of the same name, the 2010 film follows a Deputy U.S. Marshal who comes to the titular location to investigate a psychiatric facility after one of the patients goes missing.

The film received critical acclaim and was a commercial success. It also features one of the best twist endings in a thriller, complete with a hard quote that forces viewers to rethink the events leading up to the climax. As a result, it is no wonder fans haven’t forgotten the movie on its 15th anniversary and lauded Scorsese for his work. Here is why Shutter Island is remembered, including one of the hardest quotes of all time.

Martin Scorsese is lining up a major new project, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the hottest packages in Hollywood. The legendary director is set to helm a crime drama starring Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt. The film, currently untitled, will be written by journalist and author Nick Bilton and is inspired by real events.
The story focuses on a powerful and ruthless Hawaiian crime boss in the 1960s and 70s, a figure reminiscent of Robert De Niro’s Jimmy the Gent from Goodfellas. This mob leader fought to establish dominance in Hawaii’s criminal underworld, battling mainland syndicates and corporate interests while striving to protect his homeland.
The film is described as a sweeping crime saga, marking another venture into the gangster genre for Scorsese, who previously explored similar themes in The Departed and Goodfellas.

The Hawaii-set crime caper, which is currently being shopped to studios and streamers, is drawing comparisons in the industry to “The Departed” and “Goodfellas.” Even in spirit, there are no deals in place and the viability of the project depends on a distributor, according to multiple sources familiar with the package, but the untitled drama is set to be written by author and journalist Nick Bilton, who helmed the 2021 HBO documentary “Fake Famous.”
Johnson and Blunt, who previously worked together on “Jungle Cruise,” brought the project to Scorsese and DiCaprio, and once they expressed interest, they all went to Bilton to ask him about writing.

You know what—dating in Hollywood is like a game of musical chairs. One minute you’re in the spotlight, and the next, someone else has taken your seat. And when it comes to Leonardo DiCaprio, the musical chairs of his love life are a true spectacle. With a list of exes as impressive as his filmography, it’s safe to say the actor has had his fair share of high-profile relationships.
But what does the man who’s shared the screen with some of the world’s most beautiful women actually look for in a partner? Spoiler alert: It’s not what you might think.

What’s the one thing you absolutely can’t stand in a relationship? For DiCaprio, it’s not the age gap, nor the spotlight on his love life. No, for him, it’s all about authenticity.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s love life really brings to mind that classic William Shakespeare line, “The course of true love never did run smooth” from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s almost as if he has been living his own real-life romantic comedy, always on the lookout for that one person to settle down with, but somehow never quite finding the right fit.
With his good looks, globe-trotting lifestyle, and an endless parade of stunning women on his arm, you’d think he’d have found ‘the one’ by now. But nope, the Titanic star seems to still be playing the field, searching for something deeper.

Martin Scorsese is quite literally a living legend. The director has created some of the most iconic and influential films of his time. From his first films in the late 1960s to as recently as two years ago, Scorsese has kept busy making all sorts of movies, most recently releasing The Irishman in 2019 and Killers of the Flower Moon in 2023. The acclaimed filmmaker has also executive-produced plenty of other filmmakers' projects and advocated for preserving the movie-going experience. In doing so, Scorsese will make his opinion known on all the latest movies by up-and-coming filmmakers.
Just recently, Scorsese made it a point to sing his praises of Robert Eggers' latest Gothic Horror film, Nosferatu. In a conversation with TCM host Dave Karger at the 92nd St Y, the Taxi Driver director talked about a myriad of topics. Among the talking points during the panel was his recent collaboration with Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson.

While Leonardo DiCaprio has worked with a few of the most legendary filmmakers in Hollywood, it’s now time for him to fulfill his dream collaboration with Paul Thomas Anderson. Currently pouring his heart and soul into Anderson’s upcoming movie The Battle Of Baktan Cross, DiCaprio is said to be working on an eccentric storyline and oddball humor.

Well, part of the bizarre storyline is what’s making bigwigs at Warner Bros. increasingly nervous about the project. Considering how Leonardo DiCaprio has rarely worked in such movies, sources believe that The Battle Of Baktan Cross might turn into a box office flop, as audiences are not accustomed to seeing him in such roles. On top of that, DiCaprio’s $25M fee is adding insult to injury.

Imagine a world where The Sopranos wasn’t the same. Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas almost stole away one of the show’s greatest casting choices after James Gandolfini. Yes, things could’ve gone very differently, and not in a good way.

While Goodfellas is iconic in its own right, the thought of this actor missing from The Sopranos is like pasta without the sauce — unfathomable. Luckily, fate (and some solid decision-making) stepped in to keep this legendary role right where it belonged.

In an ironic twist, Goodfellas star Lorraine Bracco almost missed out on her iconic role in The Sopranos. After playing Karen Hill in Martin Scorsese‘s masterpiece, Bracco thought she was done with mafia wives.

Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island offers a deep dive into the distorted reality of a tormented mind. Leonardo DiCaprio's U.S. Marshal, Teddy Daniels, travels to an isolated mental institution with his partner to investigate a missing patient. Strange things begin to happen as Teddy's investigation deepens. It turns out that there is more going on in the institution, but the real twist has everything to do with Teddy himself.
Psychological thrillers often offer viewers intellectual pleasure as they follow the clues to the plot twist. The endings of such films also tend to deliver mind-blowing, thought-provoking twists. Sadly, there's no sequel to Shutter Island. However, there are plenty of great thrillers out there that offer a similar experience.

Movies where it’s revealed that the whole plot was happening in the protagonist’s head all along can be very hit or miss. Yes, yes, I know that Albus Dumbledore told Harry Potter that even though their conversation was happening in the latter’s head, it didn’t make it any less real. Yet, using that as a plot twist always makes the whole exercise a little cheap, and the only way to kind of bypass that feeling is by engrossing the audience in the narrative to such an extent that the last-minute attempt at recontextualizing the events doesn’t even matter. For example, there’s The Wizard of Oz, which is such a magical film that the knowledge that it was all a dream is borderline irrelevant. Stay, Ghost Stories, Donnie Darko, and Identity kind of make more sense when you find out that it was all being imagined by someone.

20th Century Studios is moving forward with a long-awaited adaptation of The Devil in the White City, based on Erik Larson’s bestselling 2004 nonfiction book. The film, currently in its early stages, has Leonardo DiCaprio in talks to star and Martin Scorsese in discussions to direct. Both are also set to produce alongside Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn, and Jennifer Davisson, DiCaprio’s partner at Appian Way Productions.
The story, set against the backdrop of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, intertwines the achievements of architect Daniel Burnham with the sinister deeds of Dr. H.H. Holmes, a serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims. Larson’s book paints a vivid picture of the contrasts between the grandeur of the fair and Holmes’s horrifying crimes.
DiCaprio first acquired the rights to the book in 2010, initially planning to star as Holmes. Scorsese joined the project in 2015. Over the years,...
