  • This movie has many visually beautiful views and also touches several aspects: feelings of a lonely person, self/society identity problems, etc. Of course, most of all praise deserves the main star Eimutis. He turned out to be diverse, flexible and sensitive actor. Unfortunately, the dialogues were quite poor and banal. This movie itself had lack of consistency and depth, feels like some characters play unnecessary roles.
  • I watched this movie without knowing anything about it, picking it just because of my favorite actor on the poster. The opening scenes in this movie of friends having dinner were very enjoyable and promising, but sadly it got horribly worse from there. The script is very dull and too theatrical for a movie. I was also not impressed with kind of amature directing that made everything look/feel artificial. Most conversations end up with one character saying something and staring at the horizon and another walking away as if something dramatic of meaningful was said. Even when conversation takes place in a room, where there is no horizon and no reason or place to walk away. A use of red light in romantic scenes felt artificial because of trying to explain every time the "accidental" source of it (like neon commercials outside). These and other similar details left a feeling that you're watching a student made movie. This movie has everything to be great: good topic, wonderful cast, very well picked filming locations, superb musical score. But the script and directing make it a really really bad one.
  • Couldve been better if the real issue was presented. I fell asleep after 30 mins so i have to rewind and yet still not getting the whole point of the movie. It would be nice to hear them use the Lithuanian language instead of English.. A lot closer to "Label Me" but Label Me was far better and high quality with the direction, storytelling and acting..

At least they find a solution (not very realistic) to end the film, i appreciate that, but like other reviews, this film is not strong enough to built up anything, lack of chemistry, poor connected, no main idea, not a love story but not into others side, there another same subject movie call "No hard feeling" and it very good in everything, if you'd seen it you would known where this film should going.
  • I just watched Advokatas (The Lawyer) with English subtitles throughout. This is important as I would have had to have given up if solely the Lithuanian parts were subbed. The story was fine, but the actors were grim, mainly because they were not particularly fluent in English (90% of the film was in English) and it looked as if they had learnt their lines parrot fashion. There was very little expressiveness or emphasis where you would expect it. I'm not sure some of them knew exactly what the meaning of the words they were saying actually was, in particular the lady artist who was getting a divorce and who really was the pits.

There were a couple of sub-plots that I was not sure about. Why were they there? The trans angle and then the dropping of the court case and then the divorce. Digressions are fine, as long as they mesh somehow with the main theme.

The Syrian refugee expressed some overtly political views that were propaganda straight from the terrorist groups that attacked Syria. I found this distasteful, especially as he emphasised at one point that there were gay clubs and cafes in Syria before she was attacked, something I can testify to the truth of from my time there. There was tolerance and relative freedom, but he launched into a diatribe against President al Assad who'd presided over this liberal atmosphere. I found it very odd and not justified.

For the ending, you have to suspend your critical facilities. In real life their scam wouldn't have worked. However, in view of what had come before with the official agencies and the time constraints of "The Lawyer" to get back to his job, the film had to end somehow. At least this way brought a wry smile.

I honestly can't give this more than a four but have to say I watched all the way through and wasn't really bored at all. The main plot held my attention. It was just the dialogue and the way it was spoken that was the problem.
  • I highly recomend! Even though I personally could not recognise a strong central point, but there were many interesting aspects and juxtapositions of a great value In this film. It was a warm film with closely observable and felt feelings and emotions. Sincere.

A lot of unnecessary characters. Plot is messy, there is no growth of main characters. Plot goes too fast because of that their actions looks random, without meaning. All LGBTQ and refugees problems are just lightly mention, without showing deeper view. Really you can describe film's plot by this sentence: Sugar Daddy wants to have a boy from Syria...

The movie about minorities among minorities. Touching scenes, unexpected turns of plot. I had to feel and survive a lot while watching it. And it reached some deep places of mine. Makes you smile, cry, wish and support.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I watched 42 minutes of this film. I stayed with it that long because I thought something fantastic was going to happen. The cinematography is really excellent... that is the main joy of this film. But sadly, there is (or, at least in 42 minutes, was) not anything else to keep my attention.

English is spoken at a certain point in the film, but it is clear that English is not the first language of either the actors or the screenwriter. People are saying words in English; whether they make sense is another matter.

The story gives us threads that go nowhere. (Maybe they pay off, but, since the film became unbearable to watch, I'll never know.) Also, there were moments of absolutely insanity. My favorite one was when the wealthy client of Marius, the lawyer, apologizes for her rudeness, saying, "This is Lithuania and I should respect people's feelings." -- meaning? If she were in another country, she wouldn't have to do that?

All performances are wooden. People look good, but they cannot act. The "gay" story at the heart of the movie does not ring true. The dialogue is fill-in-the-blank.

It became unbearable to watch. I didn't care what happened to anyone. They didn't look like they cared, either.

Yes, it looked great. Clearly someone had a lot of money. There was a beautiful apartment with a fantastic view, an amazing car, and a huge giant space where the wealthy client was supposedly going to hold an art exhibit. So, pleasant to look at, yes; engaging? No. I wish I could report differently, because the director has an eye for color and the sound was crystal clear. But I strongly suggest they find a highly qualified screenwriter and either keep it in their own language or have actors that speak English with ease.
  • The movie was plane, long boring dialogs makes watcher to fight with himself not to fall asleep. Basicaly no action at all just how one rich man , the lawyer wants to have another man from Syria. Advise: save your time and money and don't waste for this movie wich could be interesting as much as sitting on a chair and watching a rock in a field.

A Gay/Queer film from Lithuania - a place I never imagined it could come from and it is superb. The two main actors who play the Lithuanian corporate lawyer and the Syrian refugee are both excellent, and their mutual knowledge of English (most of the film is in English) posed no problems for me. In fact, as a long part of the film is set in Belgrade, a sort of no-man's land for them, it seemed to me totally normal that sometimes they stumbled with a word or two. But now a brief and no spoilers account of the story. The lawyer seems a sort of snobbish, sexually arrogant gay man, leading his life almost uniquely among his gay friends. On a website he meets a Syrian man in Serbia. Leaving his comfortable and sometimes callous life, he goes to Belgrade in search of the man he met online. There in a St. Paul of Damascus way he 'finds' his human goodness and does everything in his power, despite obstacle after obstacle, to get the refugee to more understanding country. Eventually he does it his way, and the ending, improbable to some, was heartbreakingly beautiful. As a film it is finely made and each detail counts. If there were superfluous scenes I did not see them, and above all it is an eye opener in that it tackles a controversial subject bravely and I just hope it heralds more films from our Eastern European neighbours. A solid 10 for a very fine film.

Dead hero, dead talks, dead dialogs. A sluggish, uninterested in work and in people in general, a lawyer seeks adventure without arousing the slightest sympathy. Equally inexpressive game of the protagonist - empty eyes, long glances into nowhere and meaningless conversations with everyone.
  • I understand this movie well and I empathize with it closely. A good hearted successful attractive lawyer meets a hot underdog from a sex cam site and ended up doing what you'd expect a sleazy lawyer would do, except in this case, the lawyer did if for possibly love. It has every thing a gay fantasy story would want. Eye candy, savior, hot guy needs saving by prince charming, drama, potential love happily ever after story.. Etc.. And a clastestine ending. Good job. I'm now just curious where it all ends up.? .. Him going to Berlin or him with his savior which should seem obvious if that's what's what's best for both . That's the big question. Both answers says lots about what's, the point after all that, yes? Was it all worth it in the name of love and eye candy lust ? Or was it just stupidity thinking with the head below the waist.? From personal experience, I'll vouch for the latter empirically everytime so far, sadly. Well, that's just reality.. Enjoy the movie and recognize why you are motivated if on similar path. Love confused with idealistic romance of what could be, is a dangerous weapon that can boh make or destroy one's journey into finding your true mate. Replace the hot Syrian with an unattractive good hearted underdog and ask if the story would even meet a similar fate?
  • I admit there's always some sort of cultural disconnect when watching a foreign movie, but something about this movie felt so wrong.

A lot of redundancy and incoherent characters only help worsen the story that already suffers from the writer plague of finding a solution to a problem that millions of people are struggling with. The dialogues are meant to go deep but just fall very short of achieving that purpose and instead sound unnatural and broken, and the director seems to have a very superficial approach to storytelling that highlights every other issue.

I'm sorry to say it felt like a drag at points where I had to skip some scenes, so overall, just a mediocre watching experience. Such a shame of wasted potential.
  • Before I say something about the film I must comment on the dreadful use of the English language, especially the spelling by the majority of the bad reviewers, it is no a great surprise that they had problems understanding the film and its nuances. I had a long and complicated love story with an illegal Lebanese man in Madrid. His situation was very complicated and he, like the Syrian, was also bisexual. And no i was not a Sugar Daddy. If you have the money, you buy your friend presents. Its normal. Many of the East European and Arabian countries treat LGBT dreadfully. The film started slowly, but it became more interesting as it developed and it had a positive ending and not the, so often, bleak and dismal end that many Gay movies are prone to having.. Also, it is obvious that a Lithuanian and Syrian man would have to speak in English in order to communicate. I thought the two actors did very well and held their own. I can only recommend the film.
