Absurd comedy

This is the first time this type pf comedy worked in Tamil cinema. Dialogues and acting are quirky. Especially Yogi babu, Mervin and Deepa. They were on fire. But overall acting of others was nothing great. Story was unbelievable at times and doesn't keep you hooked. But the humor is this movie does what the sloppy screenplay can't.

Sivakarthikeyan had a unique role totally contrast to his usual fun avatars. He has expanded his resume on this one. Anirudh's songs in this movie were already chartbusters. They were perfectly placed in the movie.

Except for the unnecessarily messed up 30 last minutes the whole movie is a fun laugh riot.

Felt good to be back in theatres! Enjoyed throughout the whole film with lots of laughter. Been seeing a lot of people saying that the movie was dragging. But I didnt feel that the movie was lagging. It was going pretty quickly as you enjoy the comedy and mass scenes. Nelson has delivered another Dark Comedy in Kollywood. Siva nailed it and most importantly Yogi Babu and Redin brought the movie to the next level. Another good album and bgm by Anirudh. A great family entertainer. High expectations for BEAST🔥.

Superb entertainer movie with dark comedy... its so fun to watch the movie with 100% seat capacity and whistles throughout the movie... The story is ordinary but the dark comedy throughout the movie makes it extraordinary... SK is so subtle and they maintained the character till the end... they sacrificed the Chellamma song for his character...real brave decision... It was slow in the mid and some part of the second half but nothing stops the laughter of the audience... The tiny amount of brilliance and dark comedy makes this movie worth to watch....

Doctor movie has all the elements you need. Nelson has done a great job but the story was almost predictable but the JOKES of the movie will keep you entertained for the whole movie. All the casts have done a tremendous job. Must watch movie with family.

One thing writer-director Nelson Dilipkumar's good at is infusing wry humor into conventionally serious situations. In Doctor, he sticks to his core strengths, plotting a bunch of misfits who come together to battle a kidnapping situation. Another director would have milked the family angle so much to extract more sentiment, but Nelson chooses to make us laugh instead. While SK's deadpan act works, given how the character is etched, the supporting cast totally nails it. Led by Yogi Babu and Redin Kingsley, both in top-form, the film generates situational laughs during many scenes, especially in the middle portions.

Once the film moves to Goa, the laughs dwindle slightly, but the engagement factor remains on the higher side. A big chunk of the packaging is on Anirudh's musical score, which again works so darn well. There's also a fun lights-out action scene inside a metro which is superbly staged, with every actor doing complete justice to their parts. The final 20 minutes lack the much-needed closing punch, but when the credits start rolling, you forget what the main plot was because by then, it's the supporting cast and their inherent wackiness that you'll remember Doctor for. What Lokesh Kanagaraj managed to do with the action genre - giving mainstream Tamil cinema a much-needed update - Nelson's trying to do with dark comedies. The absurdity levels remain at their peak all through.

Overall it's a fun watch if you can ignore some of the casual misogyny and gender-based humor (why's a man dressing up as a woman perceived to be funny in 2021?). The heroine is reduced to an unintelligent pawn, and it was weird to see her family stay quiet while SK's character keeps making snarky remarks. Just because SK's character is a do-gooder doesn't take away his toxic traits. I'm hoping Nelson doesn't amp this up in his next film with Vijay.

Director Nelson Dilipkumar's latest outing has many of the similar elements that made his directorial debut Kolamavu Kokila (2018) a hit. A middle-class family, thrown into a world of deceit and crime, dollops of dark humour and a motley crew of quirky, eccentric characters.

Sivakarthikeyan plays the titular 'Doctor, a seemingly emotionless army surgeon, who makes it his personal mission to find the kidnapped niece of his fiancé. He assembles a rag-tag bunch of misfits to perform the task, which is where an excellent Yogi Babu and an over-the-top Redin Kingsley make their grand entrance.

The duo manages to infuse a lot of humor which combined with outlandish twists and turns makes the first hour quite entertaining. However, the movie loses steam towards the end with the logical inconsistencies and the ease with which the many issues in the film are resolved by the climax, leaving the viewer dissatisfied.

Sivakarthikeyan has clearly given his all for the role, playing the scheming, Machiavellian doctor with ease, nailing the body language and mannerisms of the extremely practical-minded character. Another notable performance was Deepa Shankar as the bungling house maid who delivers some of the funniest dialogues in the film, accentuated by her funny expressions.

Milind Soman delivers a characteristically appalling performance in a cartoonish guest role while the heroine, Priyanka Arul Mohan is given precious room to shine. Vinay Rai, who excelled as a suave, debonair villain in Thupparivalan (2017), tries to recreate the same magic here but is let down by shambolic writing. This truly has to go down as one of the stupidest writing for an antagonist in a thriller film, such is the ease with which the hero dismantles his entire operation.

Overall, Doctor has more lows than highs. I just wish the director had managed to sustain the same frequency of unexpected twists and moments of dark humor that we saw in the first hour, for the entire length of the film. The setting of the stage was quite grand, the follow through, sub-par.

Just an average watch. Not recommended!

One time watchable movie, a good comedy entertaining movie. Story and screenplay is similar to "Kaaki Sattai". Yogi & Redin Kingsley r de main highlights of the movie. If u think dis movie would be better than "kolamaavu kokila" sry u r on de wrong track. Don't keep high expectations. Story is predictable. And when it comes to BGM & songs it's amazing😍.

My rating would be 6/10 ⭐

A typical Nelson Movie - Fun packed thriller, I felt Nelson in each and every character..... Ani is the backbone for the movie Different version of SK Vijay Karthik Kannan did very well in cinematography... Nelson and his characterisation was brilliant Few character made the audiance laugh to the core.

Overall brillent work by the Team #Doctor.

A slightly different plot with Director's usual pattern

The biggest advantage this movie has is wrt to the characters being played by known/popular faces which in itself is a big marketing trick to make it go far. Although the plot was in line with the director's previous one but with a different genre, it didn't bore at all, again maybe due to the performances of the usual comedians with an unusual structure.

I think the best thing about this movie is that the sub-step scenes were removed which would've made it way worse, for-ex the fight sequence, in the end, was removed and instead the film ended with just a few gunshots & bombings.

This film neither stands out nor is mediocre, definitely one-time watchable stuff.

Why are these kind of movies getting 8 on IMDb!? Very disappointed. They have have dragged the whole movie into nothingness. Felt like the whole screenplay was running in slow motion. Typical early 2000s bollywood movie which doesn't run anymore.

SK's momentum shifting movie , he is on track to become next Vijay . Commerical drama without logic and mass moments in climax . Nelson writing won't stop us to compare with Kolamaavu Kokila . But this movie isn't better than CoCo . With so many loopholes and logic missing sequences throughout the movie , it doesn't have any engaging plot or story. You can predict every upcoming scenes and no impactful performance from powerless villian . Comedy portions were enjoyable and its just made the movie to watch despite poor writing and predictable plot.

You will like it if you are commercial movie lover else one time watchable for humour portions. This movie reduces expectation on BEAST already .

Vera Maari Vera maari!!!

Doctor been waiting for this movie so long and finally i watched it. Movie was so good in the genre from placement of song to giving screen space to each and every actors. And i loved sivakarthikeyan acting he didn't go out of character for one second was fully focused in that character that was good. And Anirudh's score and songs were perfect. I loved the way director nelson giving screen space to everyone. And i so much loved vinay's portrayal as villian was so good to see him back on track in Kollywood. A totally worth watching movie in theaters.

Watch it for the laugh out loud moments.

A practical, dispassionate army doctor takes on a bunch of goons in pursuit of a girl about to be trafficked. This story could have been manoeuvred in any direction, but Nelson chose to make it a dark humor film and boy oh boy what a laugh riot it is!

Redin Kingsley and Yogi Babu steal the show with every frame and it would be fair to say that they're the heart and soul of the movie. It was nice to see Sivakarthikeyan play a stoic and muted character for a change with lesser exuberance than his usual hero roles.

What makes Doctor really click is the lack of too much melodrama or excessive masala elements, with the focus being solely on the racy script and its thriller moments.

A sure shot one-time watch for the plot and the comedic sequences will definitely make you laugh out loud!

A Really New To Kollywood Cinema. SK seems very Unique in this Movie really appreciateble character. Cute lovely priya with gud acting. Vinay done his Fine Villainism. Real Hero of the Film is Anirudh, His BGM Carried whole movie into NextLevel. Nelson's Typical Story Screenplay Direction Done Extraordinary, A great applause to Whole team. Great Job by Supporting Roles especially Kingsley Comedy Nailed the show. Yogi too done well. Really Must watch film only in Threate.

Not gonna lie, the movie was fun to watch. The comedy in the movie pretty much carries the entire film. They sell this to be a crime thriller, I'd say that this is in the comedy genre that just happens to have a plot based on a crime, thereby taking the emphasis off the crime and logic, and focusing on the comedy more.

Depending on the kind of comedy you enjoy, you'll either laugh throughout the movie, or at least in parts for sure. While that's the plus, that sometimes is also a minus. You'll find yourself laughing at situations in the movie when it's supposed to evoke something else out of you AND the characters as well.

You'll have to keep logic aside to completely enjoy this one, be it the dark humor or the "timing comedy"/the one-liners. If you start finding flaws, you won't stop. And therefore, prior to starting this movie, tell yourself that you shouldn't do it to begin with.

This isn't for everyone but it surely has something for a lot of people, at least in parts, if not in the entirety of the film.

Comedy was but how come they've taken a Human Trafficking concept with almost no logic?

The Director and the team has taken a serious topic and added comedy in it which is not a bad way of film making but come home you've forgotten the logics behind such a serious topic?

When you write such a serious topic you should do at least some basic research but here director has almost no knowledge in topic/ inspired by some B rated Hollywood human trafficking movie and did the same to the poor Tamil Audience!

Second half of the movie was totally terrible and there was Zero logic in any of the scenes.

One of the best work of SK. Nelson is a genius in the genre. Anirudh is the second hero of this movie.

Dark comedy concept is so fresh. The movie is full of mystery which will keep you engaged throughout.

We went with the family and laughed throughout the movie. Nelson, SKs chemistry is very evident onscreen.

Good movie after long time! Watch it on theatre for the BGM experience. It's mind-blowing.

An emotional story filled with dark humour

So the simple one liner is that a child is being kidnapped by someone from hero's side so he as a loyal doctor finds out the network of kidnappers and saves all kidnapped children.

Looks like you heard it somewhere right? Of course yes, half of the tamil cinema is filled with this type of stories.... So nothing new here let's move on....

Acting of certain characters like the police who stays with this gang can till end, SK and many other acted very good in this movie...

But the things that made this movie watchable is Awesome dark jokes and Aniruth's ultimate gasa gasa bgm! When you see the movie you will clearly see the difference from other movie's cringe counter jokes. I don't have any words for aniruth's work here just 10/10 for music and songs...

Overrall I would give 7/10 for good music and comedy, 'Not Bad' acting and mediocre storyline... But it's actually 6/10 for the CLIMAX... Oh gosh! Ok I'll stop here.
