This is a wonderful musical revue staged and filmed in December 2007 at Radio City Music Hall. The New York venue regularly stars the Radio City Rockettes. For this "Radio City Christmas Spectacular," the Rockettes don holiday costumes and are joined by a cast of other singers and performers. It's a true spectacle with performers singing on small side stages, a video that shows Santa flying over the Big Apple, and then Santa flying over the audience onto the stage.
I enjoy the old Busby Berkeley staged routines of the early years of musical films. Those were true extravaganzas. Anyone who enjoys watching coordinated dance numbers should enjoy this film. It must have been thrilling to be in the audience for this show.
The Rockettes are a delight to watch as they do their choreographed numbers to various Christmas themes. Among these are Sleigh Ride, the Twelve Days of Christmas, and "The Nutcracker" and Parade of the Wooden Soldiers. The show winds up with "Here Comes Santa Claus," Christmas memories, a living nativity, and "Joy to the World." It's not a Christmas movie, but it's very good entertainment that most should enjoy over the holidays. Or, at any time, for that matter.
