It's a fun whodunit series worth binging

I just finished binging The Perfect Couple and have to say that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I've heard mixed reviews about, some people love it and some not so much. I like a good whodunit series and this was only 6 episodes long so I thought what the heck. It also has an amazing cast led by Liev Schreiber, Nicole Kidman, Eve Hewson, Jack Reynor, Dakota Fanning, Billy Howie, Meghann Fahy, etc. That cast alone makes this series worth trying. It has The White Lotus feel to it, especially with how beautiful it's shot. This isn't a masterpiece by any means but if you just want to turn your brain off and enjoy a good whodunit series then give this a try...you won't be disappointed.

Average entertainment

In terms of writing, this series borders on satirical. The script is so unnatural and forced, it's almost comedic, and as a result, I found it hard to take any of the actors seriously. How Kidman and Schreiber got wrangled into this fiasco of a production is a more suspenseful mystery than that on which this entire series is based.

That said, it does keep you engaged. I don't regret watching the series, it's a pretty formulaic production, very predictable, and if you're looking for a lazy weekend show to binge, it will scratch that itch. You're not watching Citizen Kane, but what the hey. Sometimes we all just need to turn our brains off for a bit and be entertained.

Temu version of "White Lotus"

I was so excited to watch it, the cast looked great, and I love the genre.

The views of Nantucket Island are gorgeous. Easy to watch, murder plot is good. But something was missing. Most of the characters were annoying. Particularly I disliked the French lady. I get it that they wanted a corky lady to bring some humor with a European touch, but it didn't work out at all. None of the sons were appealing. Even Live Schreiber was a disappointment. I am so upset with Nichole Kidman for ruining her face. It is very hard to concentrate on her acting without constantly thinking of her morphed face, and I really hate to say it. But her tall and slim body left me in awe! Meghann Fahy (Merritt), on the other hand, is absolutely gorgeous with all her natural wrinkles and freckles. I didn't fall in love with any of characters. I did enjoy the woman detective though. All characters felt flat, even the main "poor" girl. Some scenes were well executed, but some were just awful and awkward (the whole scene with book singing....wth was that? Just so bad!). Such a great potential for the series and somehow, they missed the mark. I would totally recast most of them and bring more darkness and less awkwardness. The ending at the zoo didn't work out for me at all. I would rather it ended with Amelia seeing the new book written by Greer at the airport, she glanced at the dedication page and put it back on shelf, then we see her walking to her gate. And, scene!

Still fun to binge watch. If you are bored and have a few hours, go watch it and let me know if you guessed the killer right away.

Going for some cheese

The casting is perfect, isn't it? You've got Nicole Kidman, the seasoned pro who can carry just about anything. Dakota Fanning, all talent and precision, and then Meghann Fahy, still riding that wave from "White Lotus." Together, they pull in the whodunit crowd, no question. The backdrop? Gorgeous. And that simmering disdain for the filthy rich? Yeah, that hooks you in too, at first.

But here's the thing - beneath that glossy surface, it starts to wear thin. The endless closeups, the subplots that vanish without a trace, those misdirections that turn out to be... well, nothing. It's like you're being led around in circles, waiting for something with depth, something that'll hit hard. Instead, you're left with a hollow echo where there should've been a punch.

Kidman, Fanning, and Fahy? Sure, they shine. They always do. But the material? It just doesn't rise to their level. By the end, that big reveal you've been waiting for? Yeah, you probably saw it coming from a mile away. And the worst part? You're left thinking it could've been more - should've been more.

started slowly ... but...

The critics have been cruel. The ratings are middling BUT they miss the point.

This is a typical Agatha Christie-esque who-dunnit.... take a group of people at a country house and have a dead body type of whodunnit.

So it becomes a sort of puzzle.

1. Attractive cast - check 2. Attractive locale - check 3. Characters with secrets - check 4. Characters with motive - check 5. Characters with opportunity - check 6. Murder victim who may or may not be a nice person - check 7. Big reveal at the end after assorted red herrings are resolved. - check

Now comes the hard part. Is it well done?

Actually I think it is. It does drag at little in the middle but the resolution works.

As for the cast. I think they all do quite well and Nicole Kidman whom I have never quite taken to actually surprises me. I usually find her cold but in this, at the end, I fully understood her character. Her much maligned accent actually makes sense in the circumstances.

Give it a try. It is not the greatest mystery ever but it is fun if you just go along for the ride.

Will keep you guessing until the very end

The Perfect Couple is about a young woman (Eve Hewson) who's about to marry into an extremely wealthy family in Nantucket until the shocking death of her maid of honor prevents the wedding from happening and makes every guest there a suspect while all their secrets come to light. What a follows is a fantastic murder mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. This probably isn't going to win any awards, maybe for the acting, but it's a guilty pleasure show that's worth the watch. Some people have said it's a little too soapy and while it is at times it's still very entertaining. There is plenty of mystery, tension, suspense, comedy and drama to make the six episodes fly by. I actually finished all 6 episodes in one day, that's how much I was hooked.

One-dimensional show struggling with its identity

Great cast but I feel like the show was confused with its identity the entire time. Is it a thriller? A classic whodunnit? A dramedy? The suspense was premature at best and the humor felt misplaced. Some scenes also felt out of place, and left me quite confused as to why they were included in the first place. Take the cake scene between the brothers for example - what was the point of that? Slapstick comedy? I doubt anyone laughed. A cute heartfelt moment showing playfulness between brothers? Lacked that emotion. A moment showing disdain, competition, or genuine anger between the brothers? It completely lacked depth.

Nicole Kidman is a class act but this show was one-dimensional and not well thought out. Felt almost like a high school project. Just compare it to Big Little Lies and you'll see the stark diffeence.

A Thrilling Ride with Unexpected Twists

I can say this is a thrilling and unpredictable murder mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. The plot twists are expertly crafted, and the acting, particularly by Nicole Kidman and Domhnall Gleeson, is outstanding. While the pacing can feel a bit slow at times, the overall experience is one of suspense and intrigue. The show's strengths lie in its unexpected turns, strong performances, and the captivating setting. However, the pacing and the somewhat rushed ending could be considered minor drawbacks. Despite these minor issues, The Perfect Couple is a captivating and entertaining show that will appeal to fans of the mystery genre.

Ooh, it's a comedy....

I would have enjoyed this so much more if it had been labelled a comedy/dark comedy. I've read lots of books with similar plots and have enjoyed them but the tone in this show felt a little off from the start. Good actors were bad, performances were too big, etc. I thought it was just incredibly cheesy for the most part but by the end it's a clearly a full on satire. Keep this in mind and you might actually enjoy it, even if the overall direction doesn't quite get the tone right all the way through.

Not good enough that I'd seek out the book it's based on but a decent watch if you're in the mood for a cheesy show that doesn't take itself too seriously (and you can handle some bad accent work).

Not bad, entertaining, a little predictable but worth watching.

A movie set on Nantucket Island where a seemingly wealthy couple Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman) a writer and her doting husband Tag Winbury (Liev Schreiber) are hosting a wedding for their middle son Ben (Billy Howle) and his fiancé Amelia (Eve Hewson). She is deemed "less than" by Ben's parents as that she's not quite from the stock that their Ben is from, meaning, she's marrying up and Mom (at least) doesn't like it. Amelia's gregarious, beautiful and bubbly friend Merritt shows up and tensions rise. The older brother Thomas (Jack Reynor) and his pregnant wife Abby (the legendary Dakota Fanning!) are there also. He's a drinker and stirs up trouble while she's a silver tongued passive aggressive diva. The younger brother Will is only 17, soon to be 18 at which time he and his older brothers will inherit their trusts. A motive for murder as that someone ends up dead on what would have been the morning of the wedding.

It's a who dune it in the vein of Agatha Christy with a star studded cast. Here are the things I liked about it.

The story, it's interesting and it's told well.

The actors all did a very good job as could be expected since there are powerhouse actors in this. I loved Live Schriber, Eve Hewson, Billy Howle, Nikki Henry, Jack Reynor, Ishaan Khatter, Dakota Fanning and Isabelle Adjani.

The setting is lovely, I could watch it on mute and enjoy it.

What I didn't like about it.

The order: there was some disjointedness in the story telling but it was done to build tension so I get it, I just don't like it. I like my stories to have a beginning, middle and end that resolves nicely, this one starts kind of in the middle of a story but it's not that off putting.

Believe it or not, Nicole Kidman is miscast in this. She's starting to look a little "done" with cosmetic enhancements and the lower half of her face doesn't seem to move with her eyes. She's a little too old for the role she was cast in, a younger actress may have driven this up a little more for me. I found myself staring at her lips instead of listening to her lines. Also, she sighs like 30 times through the movie, I needed some other range of acting. I'm not that mad her overall, she still did a good job but there were some idiosyncrasies for me.

Should you watch it, yes! It's a great show, especially if you like "who done its."

It's...OK

I genuinely struggled through most of it to pay attention. Most of the characters seemed lacking something or just too completely Cliche. Nicole Kidman did an excellent job at playing the stuck up/ up tight rich wife that rules every part of the families life. A lot of people said Liev Schreiber just phoned his performance in but I thought he played his roll extremely well. It boils down to a rich family murder mystery where the cops seem completely incompetent. It's only after politely asking each subject and literally taking their word for it do we FINALLY find out who the killer is, which is barely explained what the motive was.

Pretty good watch

Start studded murder mystery! Donna Lynne Champlain shines as a detective here, really had no idea she was so talented. Happy to see her getting the screen time she deserves. Eve Hewson, she is okay, beautiful as usual but she's just beautiful. Literally all she has to do is show up. Fahy is also beautiful but in a different way, she's more interesting. She does well enough. Dakota Fanning...her star continues to fall.

Will someone please cast Jack Reynor as a good guy at some point? He is playing the same guy ad nauseam. Ick.

Leiv Schrieiber performed his role well, he was at least fun to watch. And last, Nicole Kidman. Omg. How many houses has her surgeon bought on her dime? I'm not even sure if she looks good or bad or just fake, it's hard to tell. Even though most of her is synthetic at this point, she could at least wear her own hair. Her wig is tragic in this film. Her acting is consistent with everything else she's done in the last ten years. Not terrible, not great.

This is a decent miniseries if you need a distraction.the story is just interesting enough to keep the viewer engaged.

Quirky.

Well, I've seen the reviews of people who criticised this show, but I have to admit - I liked it. It's quirky and different, but most definitely a slow burn. I guess in an age where everything is fast paced that's why so many didn't like it.

If you're patient, this is a clever and rewarding ride. It's is well cast, amazingly well acted by some very talented people, and mildly comical in an understated way. It'll keep you guessing almost as much as the police officers trying to crack the case.

Give it a go, but pay attention to the characters who are much more fun than the actual plot, and don't expect instant gratification. It's a slow burn for a reason.

Unfathomably bad

What an absolute dogs dinner of a show.

I felt so compelled to express my opinion that I signed up for an account on here... What does Netflix have on Nicole Kidman that she keeps agreeing to star in these vapid, non-sensical sh** shows?! (She does look absolutely amazing though, props to her surgeon). The only watchable scenes are ones with Dakota Fanning, who is still criminally underused. The show fails to determine if it's funny or not..the characters just seem to forget there was a murder at all throughout. A warning to all - you will want to finish once you start, but in a masochistic way to satisfy your hatred. I am now dumber since watching, may God have mercy on my soul.

A Captivating Tale of Love, Secrets, and Suspens

The Perfect Couple is a gripping blend of suspense, romance, and intrigue that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Based on Elin Hilderbrand's bestselling novel, this movie masterfully weaves together the complex emotions and relationships of its characters against the picturesque backdrop of Nantucket Island.

The cast delivers stellar performances, with each actor perfectly embodying their roles. Their chemistry feels authentic, drawing you into the whirlwind of love, secrets, and unexpected twists. The cinematography deserves special mention, capturing the beauty of Nantucket in a way that feels both serene and haunting, amplifying the tension of the unfolding drama.

What sets The Perfect Couple apart is its ability to balance emotional depth with suspense. The narrative intricately unravels secrets, leaving the audience guessing until the very end. Fans of the book will appreciate its faithful adaptation, while newcomers will be captivated by the rich storytelling.

Whether you're a fan of mysteries, love stories, or family dramas, The Perfect Couple offers something for everyone. It's a must-watch that will leave you thinking about its themes long after the credits roll. Highly recommended!

The only mystery here is why it was made

Terrible plot, zero rhythm, police work so absurd it feels like a parody, and enough soap opera-level twists to make even telenovela writers confused. By the end of this "murder mystery," you're expecting Nicole Kidman to rip off her wig and dramatically reveal she's actually the long-lost brother of the bride's father.

By the time the grand finale rolls around and the murderer is revealed, you've stopped caring. So has the police. And the entire family, for that matter. Yet, I'm sure this will be the most-watched series of 2024-because viewers will hang on just to see how much worse it can get.

oke 'drama' with many problems

This is a well made series, however, there are problems, Kidman, for one. Can't believe she won an award for baby girl (or anything for that matter) - she's robot like, has no facial expressions left because of surgery, and always does the same thing - whatever that is (being an humanoid i guess). The other problem is Isabelle Adjani, who (also) used to great and beautiful, but had some work done as well and wearing a ridiculous wig. The next problem is the sheer awfulness of almost everyone in this series - or the caricature like performances here and there. The shallowness, the dishonesty, the arrogance etc... well executed though, and one keeps wondering who donnit... however, we couldn't care much about who got killed and were wishing the Walking Dead would invade and kill m all.... so a six for the effort, the filming, and some of the performances - the best was probably the police woman ... and the chief of police maybe.

So bad

This series is so bad. None of these people even seem like real human beings. Everyone is just literally screwing everyone else, either literally or figuratively. The dialogue is so incredibly superficial and contrived. Nicole Kidman looks like a freaking mannequin. Maybe the super-rich ARE reptilians! Because the way these people are portrayed is so odd. Dakota Fanning is way better than this, super disappointed in her even being a part of this train wreck. What kind of person forgives their fiancée for cheating on their wedding weekend. It's all so sick and so unbelievable. And what's with the stupid line dancing intro? Just AWFUL.

Boring

Rich people's hypocrite life. We've seen that more than enough.

Boring story, boring actors, except maybe Liev Schreiber. Aging well. Sadly the face of Nicole Kidman is completely motionless, that's boring and a bit creepy. Dakota Fanning is an so overrated actress she have only one face in every situation. Boring. (For Example Kidman has much more once upon a time.) Eve Hewson absolutely characterless. Booooring. The other guys too.

The Perfect Couple story, pictures, characters reminds me of Big Little Lies without its mystery, construction and good acting.

But I watch througt it so five stars. Maybe I am hypocrite too.
