  • I don't like Hillary Clinton. I don't like how she felt entitled for some reason to break a long held unwritten-rule of not criticizing your opponent(s) of the same party while they are in office (President Obama in 2008) or in future primary contests in which you are not even running (Sen. Sanders in 2019); I think it's opportunistic and selfish, and she's done it twice, once criticizing her way right into a cabinet position, so bad behaviour rewarded as well.

There are many other things not to like about Sec. Clinton, including an abrasive seeming personality, and a seemingly extreme self-centeredness, but that doesn't mean this isn't a fascinating (if at times fawning) character study. It even gives her an opportunity to display some of her worst instincts that only hurt the Democratic Party generally (again, saying without references or sources that people "don't like" Sen. Sanders; I'm no socialist but this is an example of being very counterproductive to her party's main goal of defeating President Trump in 2020).

But these 1/10 reviews based on how the reviewer feels about the subject are downright bizarre. Maybe it's an American thing, I'm not sure, but reviewing a film is about the merits on the film, not a popularity contest on the subject matter. This isn't rocket surgery people.
  • I was never a Hillary fan but this is so well made. I made a lot of assumptions without really knowing her as a person or where she came from. I basically just knew what the media fed me. She is quite human, she was very vulnerable and honest in the documentary and for that she should be admired. I would recommend that you don't buy the conspiracy theories about her and watch for yourself and keep an open mind. Watch it for what it was intended to be. Nothing was glossed over. Very thorough and well done.
  • I've had my reservations about her. I did get caught up with the emails that turned into nothing and I didn't like her staying with Bill. That said, not once did I ever think she couldn't handle the job of CIC nor did I think my vote mattered- I assumed she'd be president anyway so I didn't vote for her in the general election. I read her bio and was bored by it. But I was curious about the docuseries and I watched all 4 hrs in 1 night. She came across as human and the series highlighted all of the work she's accomplished for the downtrodden in the US and beyond. She'll never be canonized in my books but the villain title doesn't belong to her either. And, with all her faults and struggles, she's done a hell of a lot. This series helped bring some of her accomplishments to the forefront without ignoring her faults and mistakes. I found that refreshing.
  • I didn't vote for her, mainly because I didn't know much other than she was Bill Clinton's wife. I had no idea how smart and accomplished she was. I expected this to be completely boring but so far it's turning out to be quite an interesting history lesson for the times she lived in as well. Only watched the first episode so far, but find it interesting enough that I will continue. I came here to see what other people thought and if they were surprised too, but I see a lot of haters who didn't even watch it leaving idiotic reviews. I've come away from it wishing I had voted for her (I'm so sorry, Hillary) and unbelievably sad we had the chance to have a president like her instead of the dumb, treasonous piece of trash that slimed his way into the whitehouse.

Arguably one of the most profound political figures of our time, this documentary doesn't shy away from the skeletons in the closet, nor does it heap praise where it isn't warranted. It simply shows us this incredibly interesting woman, warts and all. A must see for anyone interested in politics, of any ideology.
  • You can already tell that this is going to be a controversial documentary based on the polarizing contrast of supporters vs non-supporters

My advice is to watch this and determine your own idea of how you feel about it, and her altogether
  • Though I did vote for her in 2016 (a really, REALLY obvious choice), I was never a huge fan of Hillary. There's no particular reason for that dislike outside of liking other politicians/candidates better, but I also fall into that category of people for whom she just "rubbed the wrong way."

That said, as someone who grew up in a very conservative state and has a very conservative parent, I can tell you that there may not be a modern US political figure who has had their character assassinated quite like Hillary Clinton. Regardless of what you think about her politics or whether or not she's relatable, it is absolutely stunning the things that have been said about her without ANY basis in objective reality. Things get said about lots of politicians, but I think the difference is the degree for which people actually BELIEVE what is said about Hillary.

Think of it this way: A sizable chunk of the population actually thought that Trump was a safer and more stable choice than Hillary in 2016, that Hillary would get us into a war and destabilize the nation and this and that. There are those who STILL believe that, even after witnessing the clown car that has been this administration the last 3.5 years. I have to think that was possible, and least in substantial part, because the right has attacked her consistently for literal decades with so much ridiculous slander, libel, misrepresentations, and outright sensationalist defamation that even when she did things worthy of legitimate criticism, it just gets lost in the noise.

Again, regardless of her politics, I think any one of us can understand the desire to "set the record straight" if we were similarly defamed as she was and continues to be. Though the show is a bit too self-indulgent from time to time and occasionally glosses over certain subjects, the main thing it did for me is show that there's an actual person behind the politician, and I think she is generally sincere about most of what she says but just doesn't have a great public persona.

You can either believe that she's a lizard person capable of murder and incapable of feeling (while simultaneously being one of the best actors in the world), or that she's a politician who generally wants to do good but has made mistakes; but if you're going to go through life thinking she's the spawn of Satan, you can at least watch the documentary and hear it from the "horse's mouth" and decide for yourself instead of just letting your favorite pundit feed you more carefully curated and spun bull****. Your choice.

It's a pity that her message couldn't be heard, because she's too intelligent for the regular Joe. Great documentary. Thoughtful, truthful, heartfelt. Watch with an open mind, if you are not a fan.
  • While I'm not a huge fan of Clinton, I voted for her in 2016 (even canvassed for her at one point) and had a genuine interest in this documentary. One of the most common complaints about Clinton is her extremely private persona. This documentary really pulled back the curtain and gave viewers an intimate look at her life.

She does a good job addressing what went well during the campaign while owning up to her mistakes. One has to recognize that she is human, and just like every other politician, she misspeaks from time to time. Her "basket of deplorables" and "coal miners" comments were heavily scrutinized by the media, and I like to believe that her sex may have played a role in the backlash. Obama, Bush, and Bill Clinton had all made gaffes during their presidencies. Yet (with the possible exception of Bush), these were largely swept under the rug.

It's also important to note that despite the typical portrayal of her as a hawkish centrist, Clinton was, in fact, one of the most liberal senators in Congress. She was also a key proponent of the CHIP program, and who can forget "Hillarycare?" If we overlook those facets of her political career, then we fail to see the whole picture.

Still, there were aspects of her personality I found off-putting. Her dismissive attitude towards Bernie Sanders was one of them. As someone who supported him during the primaries, her characterization of him and his supporters only fanned the flames of some of my anti-Clinton sentiments. Yes, I acknowledge that the "Bernie Bros" were a real thing and could be quite obnoxious in person and on social media. But what about the "Obama Boys" back in 2008? Why is it that Clinton cozied up with Obama when she couldn't do the same with Sanders? He stumped for her way more than she did for Obama. Yet, to her, Bernie's campaign was a laughable joke. While it is true that she accomplished far more in Congress than he did, Sanders appeared to have much purer intentions throughout his campaign. He needed to call her out on her paid Goldman Sachs speeches and support for the Iraq War. He tapped into the sense of angst among blue-collar voters in ways that she could not. His brand of populism was, frankly, much more energizing. Where Sanders appeared to be a man for all people, she cultivated an elitist "DC insider" image. There must have been some beef between them that we'll never know about.

I can confidently say that Clinton would've made a better president than Trump. She had the intelligence, experience, and temperament for the job. She respected our democratic institutions in ways that he did not. Her campaign was also not a complete flop (she did win the popular vote, after all). Whether you love her, hate her, or are somewhere in the middle (like me), this documentary is an excellent analysis of one of the biggest "what if" moments in our nation's history.
  • This production is a self-promotion, not an actual documentary. The only people interviewed are those that supported Hillary's campaign or her husband's Presidency. The film pushes a one-sided agenda that anyone against Hilary is evil, and she is a golden girl. We should know better, but the Clinton propaganda machine has sucked in the people that are giving positive reviews on the content. Let's see a real documentary that reveals the truth about the additional security that was denied for an Ambassador for over a year. The classified information that was broadcasted in the open and that may have contributed to American deaths. Let's talk about the items that were stolen from the White House by the Clinton's when they moved out. Let's talk about the conflict of interest and under the table dealings with the Clinton Foundation as Hillary served as the Secretary of State.
  • Neither a love letter nor a negative diatribe. Interesting review of her life history with (for me at least) lots of new stuff, and lots more context for many of the big issues and debates that have swirled around her.
  • Except some good bits, it is nothing but a nice PR activity by the supporters of Hillary. If a person who is not very interested in politics watches this, then they will definitely form a good opinion of her. It is an attempt to whitewash the image of Hillary and that also not a nice one.
  • I don't usually leave reviews but the hate this woman receives is disgusting. She has been a groundbreaking figure in US history and this series did a splendid job nailing down all the good and bad that the Clintons went through. Are the without flaws? Absolutely not, but the hate they receive is unwarranted. Great documentary.

Not even 2016 DeSouza's Hillary's America piece of garbage has a lower rating than this doc. Yes, this one omits some downs like the 'deplorables' mention or how dared her show emotion before the NH primary in '08, but overall the reason Hillary is portrayed so favorably is simply because she is a remarkable figure with great achievements in American history and politics. This documentary is well edited, first showing the beginning and end (timeline wise) to finally meet at the middle, it also offers great behind the scenes moments from her campaign that give a good insight of what will be remembered as the most vicious presidential campaign in American History, and not thanks to her. I am personally grateful with Mrs Burstein work and her effective effort to offer a better look of what Mrs Clinton is, with 'receipts', footage that show the undeniable facts, who she has consistently been throughout her life and, for better or for worse, who remains the sole person in American History who has gotten more support from voters in a general presidential election
  • The negative reviews illustrate the damage of a 30+ year character assassination of a competent, strong woman. This documentary is objective and informative, showing both positive and negative characteristics of Hillary Clinton, as well as the mess of American politics.
  • This is a well-timed piece of propaganda that imposes a starry-eyed, self-serving spin about the life of Hillary Rodham Clinton. There are shots of Hill being interviewed behind-the-scenes from her 2016 U.S. presidential campaign as her makeup and hair is done, which she expresses she resents because a man doesn't have to go through that. Richard Nixon, who appeared as a sweating ghost next to John Kennedy's tanned, striking figure in their infamous TV debate, might disagree.

I got a month-long trial to Hulu, (which I happily cancelled early), so I could see what nonsense this film spouted. Avid members of team Hillary will love this film, even perhaps the part where Bill cries and explains he turned to Monica's sexual favors because he needed to relieve his awful job stress for ten minutes at a time. I guess that justifies why Hillary, (to whom Bill took marriage vows he denigrated repeatedly), would eventually stand-by-her-man and treat like trash the young woman her beloved husband used, spit out, and lied about under oath.

Hillary, (who, according to disclosures made $2,935,000 from 2013 to 2015 by giving just 12 speeches to Wall Street banks, private equity firms, and other financial corporations), self-righteously lashes out with anti-Bernie rhetoric: "Honestly, Bernie just drove me crazy. He was in Congress for years. He had one senator support him (in the 2016 primary). Nobody likes him. Nobody wants to work with him. He got nothing done. He was a career politician. He did not work until he was like 41, and then he got elected to something. It was all just baloney and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it."

Bernie was active in the civil rights movement as a student for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Under his chairmanship, CORE merged with SNCC. In 1962, at age 21, he went to a rally to protest the segregated campus housing policy. At the protest, Bernie said, "We feel it is an intolerable situation when black and white students of the university cannot live together in university-owned apartments". After weeks of sit-ins and further protests, the University of Chicago ended racial segregation in private university housing.

After graduating from college, Sanders worked as a Head Start teacher, psychiatric aide, and carpenter. What Bernie didn't do, (thankfully), is become a lawyer straight out of the gate, the type who would become a hypocrite and establishment sellout.

Bernie began his electoral political career in 1971 at age 30. He was anti-war. He ran for governor of Vermont in 1972.

Bernie, (an honest person who doesn't use political campaign funds from a super PAC), works tirelessly long hours for the betterment of all; his unwavering devotion, ideas, and vision continue to make an impact and are glaringly relevant in this unprecidented time of the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

In 2016, Joe Biden said, "If Bernie Sanders never said he was a Democratic Socialist, based on what he was saying, people wouldn't be calling him a Democratic Socialist. That's how he categorizes himself in sort of European terms, like the Democratic Socialist parties in Europe... Bernie is speaking to a yearning that is deep and real and he has credibility on it and that is the absolute concentration of wealth in a small group of people with the middle class now being able to be shown being left out. There used to be a basic bargain: if you contributed to the profitability of an enterprise, you got to share in the profit. That's been broken. Productivity is up; wages are stagnant."

The reporter Biden was speaking with said, "But Hillary's talking about that as well..."

Biden responded, "Well, it's relatively new for Hillary to talk about that. Hillary's focus has been on other things up to now, and that's been Bernie's... ah... NO ONE questions Bernie's authenticity on those issues."

The spin and deceit widely fed to the public propel ego and greed driven politicans into office. People get sucked into the Clinton's lies buoyed by such inauthentic, misleading, propaganda-pieces as "Hillary."
  • I didn't vote her, but I was intrigued by this show. It really showed me how little I actually knew about her and I learned how influential she actually was, especially in her early years. I had no idea she was so passionate and such in influencer on the early feminist movement. She's such a strong woman and after watching this I have so much respect for her. Super interesting watch.

Nothing to like about this lady, she should be in jail and the keys thrown away
  • A really eye opening documentary that explains a lot of misconceptions. Hillary has been fighting for women since the 60s and they systematically took her down for it, one conspiracy theory at a time. She will eventually be remembered by history in a positive light. I just wish all the people who blindly hate her would watch this.
  • I'm not an American, and my views on HRC are fairly indifferent, but I think the documentary is well-made, and it clarifies somewhat, aspects of Hillary's character (alluding to flaws and all) within the context of American society.

People in political life are always on the defensive, but in America, this seems even more pronounced, and for Hillary, it really feels like you are watching a person with PTSD or some form of stress disorder - likely the accumulation of 20+ years under the spotlight.

She ultimately can't thrive in the 21st century where media is more focused on the characters it creates, than any notion of objectivity. Even if you come away (still) disliking her, if you take a moment to step back, the discomfort she displays when talking about herself is pretty understandable (and likely relatable).

Usually I'd be one to say, she would have fared better had she been open to greater criticism and other points of view, but given the toxicity within American political life, and genuine personal animus she seems to face, I think her philosophy on dealing with such matters, warranted and wise.

It is a sad reality that she seemed most natural and comfortable when outside the US, even when in the spotlight of other media, but hey, she is erudite, rich and successful, so even if many everyday Americans jeer as if she's a pantomime villain, she can always retire abroad. Let Trump or Biden deal with the masses. Yes, America is the leader among nations!
  • I thought this documentary was very well done. It obviously had an agenda to make her more likable, which I believe it truly achieved. I thought they would glaze over Monica, but I felt they got into it. The only topic I wished they had put less fluff on was Benghazi.

Wow this is really fascinating. This is the most open and raw you're going to see her. This docuseries covers a historical perspective of our politics and feminism throughout the decades as well as the endless obstacles that she has faced. It's very worthy tbh and I can honestly say it's all exactly how I remembered it since the early 90s. If you're not a hater or curious, it's got more breadth than you'll expect and it shows the good and the bad. Always with her personally and politically, and subtracting orange man's cheating, I will always know She Won! :-D.
  • And just so you know, I HATE Trump. But this piece of propaganda shouldn't even be called "documentary". Even Hillary's blind supporters admit she's a liar and corrupt.

I admire Hillary and all she has done. This is a great documentary of her life and campaign.
