  • This is the beginning of the end for Black Lightning. This episode is indicative of that. Nobody is quite like they were before, and everything has changed after the fallout of season 3. Season 3 was by far the best season of Black Lightning and one of the best seasons of the Arrowverse, so this season has a lot to live up to. Not a whole lot happens in this episode; it's mostly just checking back in on the characters a year after season 3's finale. That's ok, though, since they had a lot to address and season 3 started off pretty slow too. I just hope that this final season can end the show on a high note and cement it as one of the CW's best shows.

This episode felt like it was two hours long, but in all the right ways! The Black Lightning Writers care about this character and this series so much, and this episode really lets that show.

I only really had one gripe with the episode, and that was the final shot of the episode. Imagine if they ended the episode with Hassan and Lopez in the hospital with that guy Jeff blasted in the eyes saying "he's back" instead of with Jen falling out of the sky. I just felt like it would've made the episode have a lot more impact than it otherwise would have, especially since that moment in the hospital is a direct callback to the moment in season one where Jeff says "It's time that people know that Black Lightning is back!"

In all other aspects though, this was the best way they could've started their final season off. They started the episode at Henderson's grave, which was really smart, and they even got Keith Arthur Bolden to play Jeff's dad during that scene as well. In that one scene, this episode outdid three episodes of Batwoman this year. Clearly, these writers know what they're doing, and I'm here for it.

I also like that Lala's getting smarter. He knows to target Jen instead of Anissa, since Anissa is bulletproof and Jen is the bigger threat. Lala's learning from his past mistakes, and I have a feeling we're gonna see him take on Tobias by the end of the season. I'm here for it!

Jeff clearly has some form of PTSD over Henderson's death too, and it's showing with how reckless he's being with his powers. He nearly kills three people in broad daylight in this episode, two of them being cops. I get it though. After everything he's been through, he just wants to keep his family safe now. That's how it was at first too. He stopped being Black Lightning before season one because he wanted to have a family, and now that he does, he's just trying to keep it together. He doesn't realize though that he's pushing them farther apart! You can't help but feel bad for him!

If you don't watch this episode, you're missing out on one of the best episodes of this show, maybe one of the best episodes of the Arrowverse, and maybe one of the best episodes of tv you could watch this year. This one's a perfect 10/10 from me, even if I could've changed the final scene.
