This is a funny, clever short film and Pearl McKay is great as the title character. Will Ferrell gets back to his "SNL" roots of sketch comedy, and he's actually funnier in this 3 minute short than he's been in any of the big budget sports comedies he's done lately. I mean, seriously, Semi- Pro was like the last straw for me, I've decided to wait until his movies go to DVD from now on. Or in this case, online. Since "The Landlord" is the funniest, most original effort that Mr. Ferrell has made in a long time, I'm going to make the early prediction that this little sketch will be developed into a 90 minute feature very soon. Will says "yes" too often to mediocre projects. (There was that one summer when he hit us with Kicking & Screaming and Bewitched in like the same week). I admit that I would watch it if it were made, but please Will, don't mess up a great thing. This short is a reminder of how funny you actually can be.

What makes this short sketch for me is the joke just before pearl knocks on his door.
Recommend you get on you-tube and watch this immediately.
Sure it's not big to teach a toddler to swear. but if role models has taught us anything it's that when a kid swears its funny. also recommend watching him pick up the male athlete of the year for tiger woods. i was also very shocked to see this had its own page but i think its clearly so some one can have a moan about the content. Not really much more to say but this system insists on 10 lines -
colorblind198225 June 2008This has got to be the funniest thing I've ever seen, and i had to watch it about 500 times, half of those times i wasn't under any kind of influence. Will Ferrell is a genius and this is one of those shorts that i wish i had come up with. She sounds like a little Asian lady. She's adorable. Too bad she's been retired as Pearl. that is one girl i wish had never aged. If i had more thumbs, i'd give this 4 of em, way UP!. I know this one an award too. warrensandwell9 July 2008This video is funny. It has nothing to do with kids cursing, or Will Ferrell. It's just funny. It's an intelligent short piece, in which the actors are very funny. The fact that world-famous comedians made it has nothing to do with it. However, I'm glad that they did! These guys are professional funny men who have worked for years and years at making people laugh, and they're damn good at it. This Will Ferrell bashing has got to stop. People act like he came over to their house and kicked their dog or something. The guys funny. And he never plays the race card, and he doesn't abuse or exploit any gender or age group. There are a lot of comedians out there who make a living (and unfortunately in some cases, a very good living) exploiting everyone, all the time. Will Ferrel has a made a career out of just being funny, without any sort of gimmick. Now granted, the sports crap has got to stop. But all the while that he's been making these goofy sports movies, he's been staying busy with other stuff too. And this is a perfect example. You shouldn't hate this video because you have some sort of unfounded aggressive attitude towards Will Ferrell. And you shouldn't like it just because it's Will, or just because there's a small child cursing. It's just funny. Sorry jerks, but it's hilarious. Deal with it.

UniqueParticle1 April 2019Always a fan of Will Ferrel in many many films/shows. I saw this short when it was in its prime & I'm just now getting really into doing reviews. Also Adam McKay is a genius at the comedies that he wrote & directed. Cool how he went from doing ridiculous comedies to serious movies nowadays!

First off, if you were smart enough to look up the outtakes, you'd know the kid's not cursing. They have her saying BRICKS instead of bi*** and other like words. Also you'll notice when he curses she's not in the scene it's a upper body shot of Will Ferrell cause she's not there to hear the cursing.
But for everyone who either didn't care or thought it was funny we can agree, great short!!!
I don't really have anything else to say but for some dumb reason I have to have at least 10 lines of text. So I'll reiterate that for people that are dumb enough to hate something when it's so easy to look up the facts to see how wrong you are please just go jump off a cliff, and leave the rest of us out of your fantasy at just how bad the world is. -
Horst_In_Translation6 September 2013"The Landlord" is easily one of the most known and most entertaining funnyordie-shorts. While they can be occasionally quite off the mark (there's so many and not everyone can be a winner), the dialogs and delivery thereof really turn this one into something special.
Will Ferrell's character, an irresponsible bum, is living in an apartment he obviously can't seem to afford. We found out that he wrote an email earlier to prevent his worst fear from happening. But not a chance. While speaking to his fellow bum friend, suspecting nothing evil, the doorbell rings. And it really is happening. It's Pearl, the landlord from hell, an alcoholic who will no longer accept Ferrell living under her roof and not paying his dues. She's worked too hard to tolerate frowzy behavior like this and is determined to put an end to it, one way or another. The situation escalates quickly. Things get really ugly.
