Despite being shown in an episode of "The Office" (US) back in 2011, the whole movie didn't premiere as a film until 2019.

The post-credits scene was inspired from that of the teen comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, BJ Novak, Mindy Kaling, Creed Bratton, Ed Helms, Craig Robinson, Angela Kinsey, Brain Baunheimer, Kate Flannery, Rashida Jones, Ellie Kemper, Phyllis Smith, Oscar Nuñez, David Koechner, Melora Hardin, David Denman and Paul Lieberstein all worked together on the TV Series "The Office: An American Work Place"

During the second act, Samuel L. Chang jumps in front of Michael Scarn to protect him when Goldenface attempts to murder him. Writer & Director Michael Scott later confessed in an interview that this moment was not written in the script, it was improvised by actor Dwight Schrute. The take was kept in the final cut of the film.
