Great piece of documentary work

This is the first rock band documentary I have seen, so I don't really know how it compares to others, but I was thoroughly impressed with it. You get to really see what it's like being on tour with one of the biggest bands out there. Footage ranges from radio show interviews, to awkward meet-the-fan sessions, to concert footage (note: there are only a couple songs shown in concert throughout the whole film, and I think Don't Look Back In Anger is the only one played in its entirety).

One problem with the documentary though is how little we hear from Zak Starkey, Andy Bell, or Gem. All play an influential role in the band, but we only get a word or two out of them the whole time, despite them often being present. We hear more from Sergio Pizzorno (lead singer from Kasabian) than any non-Gallagher member of Oasis. Noel and Liam stay true to form and provide good entertainment throughout the film though. Kasabian and Jet also feature on the documentary (both were support bands for Oasis world tour).

While there are some flaws with this documentary, it is still very entertaining to watch. Also, the live concert filmed at the City Of Manchester Stadium is reason enough to buy the DVD. The band sound great and put on an equally great show.

Doesn't do anything to improve my opinion of Oasis, but rather the opposite.

Good: At the end Noel makes a joke that they'll stop touring once Liam goes bald. That's pretty funny.

Bad: Almost everything else. The film is a mis-mash combination of "behind the scenes" band footage - that doesn't look at all spontaneous. Interviews (for example: where Liam tells the interviewer that 'life is good' because "I'm alive man" I didn't know he was in danger of dying at any point in time.... I suppose this is a reference to his 'rock and roll lifestyle' and the dawn of a new, more responsible age. But it's a bit over-dramatic if you ask me.

The concert footage is horrible - based on the fact that Liam can no longer sing, but rather screams in a raspy voice. He has ruined his voice through too much drugs, cigarettes and alcohol. The studio work is not bad at all, but the live performances are rubbish.

Also... I found Noel Gallagher to be quite rude in this film. At one point, the band sits around a tour bus mocking fan mail, and making fun of adoring fans. I found this pretty disgusting behavior, and something you would have never seen the Beatles do *who, by the way, had to deal with many crazier fans than oasis ever has - ie) mark chapman.

Later in the film, during a live performance: Noel tells the crowd that they should 'thank him' for the song 'don't look back in anger' when they *#$% their girlfriends...... Another very classy thing to say.

The Gallagher brothers enjoy comparing themselves to the Beatles, but truthfully they're nowhere close. It's not their music that holds them on a lower level, it's their disgusting personalities. Liam is like a brainless,uncreative John Lennon, and Noel is an evil, arrogant Paul McCartney.

Don't get me wrong. I am a huge Oasis fan. But I think they should give up trying to be funny and charming, and just stick to the music. Because they sound like idiots when they open their mouths for any other reason than singing.

Horrible.

In 1995 I 'discoverded' Oasis and they where the biggest 'kick' i got out of music in years.Although in my mid -30's here was a band , which revived my teen-years-excitement and love for say..the Beatles.... They'r first two albums , had me going for years.what a sound , and what a songwriter talent in Noel !.And wow , Liam , what a vocalist! In the following years this Band always has a warm place in my heart , for what they've accomplished in my musical soul... anyway... Here we are 12 years further on the road... I watched LDSD and...wow..is it a boooring piece of 'film'...! camera shakes make you dizzy..and it's very uncomfortable to watch.... The Band sounds Like a 'Moloch' A huge monstrous music-industry-creation with all these stadium mega concerts...pffff... the concert registration-part...well , i could'nt finish it...how 'heavy' these guys 'music became... the concert part has nothing to add to the other one.. 'familiar to millions' which carries the same atmosphere. the documentary part well , hard to watch because of the camera shake, terrible camera work and not much of an atmosphere captured by the film crew.... Oh yeh , the converted Collor into b&W video-conversion...doesn't do the trick at all !

I was hoping for a great piece of ' oasis on the road '.. ... and a pity we don't see any more depth in the other oasis members , Gem , Zack and..wha'ts his name. etc....

If you want to see oasis live as the band that 'shook the world' I advice you watch ' There and Then ' or (little lesser) live by the sea...

now there's rebellious verile sounding fresh originality.

Lord don't slow me down shows a Monster very much being slowed down ! only for past excitement , this film rates 2*.
