While many fans were happy for the couple and congratulated them, one side of the Gomez fandom seemed to disapprove of the union. Many have criticized them in the past, reportedly due to Blanco’s association with Gomez’s ex Justin Bieber. However, Gomez has defended her partner in the past and claimed that he was better than anyone she had been with.

Velma, what are you doing here? To be completely candid with you, I thought that controversial headline would definitely get you all to come read my thoughts on Lisa Kudrow’s new Netflix series, No Good Deed. I know it seems like I absolutely hated the show, and that I have based my opinion on all shows that put these two genres in a blender and bring out a mishmash of admirable plots that somehow end up a bit undercooked in the end. But this is not the case. This year we saw the likes of Only Murders In The Building, The Afterparty, and (my personal favorite) Bad Sisters getting new seasons, and on the other hand, we’ve also got a few new shows such as Bad Monkey and now No Good Deed that are growing the pool of the seemingly thriving genre. But what makes some of these...

Halfway through Netflix’s No Good Deed, Lydia Morgan (Lisa Kudrow), a former concert pianist now embroiled in the madness of trying to sell her house, reflects on a repetitively heightened situation, sighs and says, “I’m so sorry and I can’t believe this is happening again.”
I Can’t Believe This Is Happening Again could have been a good title for Liz Feldman’s Dead to Me, a murky comedy about female friendship and murder that managed to take a tenuously thin premise and elongate it over three seasons by virtue of wild and sometimes illogical pivots, plus the truly exceptional work from stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. It was an exhaustingly paced show and, by its series finale, it put you through an emotional ringer as well. But if you had the patience for Feldman’s dogged approach, it was rewarding.

Turns out, Saoirse Ronan, who kickstarted her career around 20 years ago and already has many major accolade wins and nods to her name, wasn’t spared from this either.

Back in June 2019, J.J. Abrams struck a massive overall deal that would keep him in the fold of Warner Bros., his home studio since 2006.
The five-year pact, pegged at $500 million at the time, had a unique structure that allowed Abrams to draw from a significant pool of money to sign other writers to overall deals. That positioned the multi-hyphenate behind “Felicity” and “Lost” as not just a content creator but a mogul whose Bad Robot production company would incubate the next generation of storytellers, with Abrams and his wife, Katie McGrath, overseeing the stable. Five and a half years later, Warner Bros. doesn’t have much to show for all the coin that it showered on Abrams, even as the value of the deal dropped by half because Bad Robot failed to reach the financial and output benchmarks that would have triggered the full $500 million. Eugenio Derbez has issued an apology to Selena Gomez after the singer-actress clapped back at him for criticizing her performance in Emilia Pérez.
Over the weekend, a clip from an upcoming episode of the Hablando de Cine podcast was shared on TikTok, where Derbez expressed his disapproval of Gomez’s Spanish in the film, given that she’s not fluent in the language. The actress plays Jessi del Monte in director Jacques Audiard’s musical crime thriller.

The Golden Globes nominations have hit, and there are some surprising and frustrating snubs among them.
Whenever the Golden Globes are announced, the talk is less about who got nominated than who didn’t. The sad truth is that with so many shows competing, there are only so many slots, and the Globes should be commended for recognizing more streaming shows than the Emmys do.
This year had a few nice surprises, like Kate Winslet forThe Regime. A few snubs aren’t too shocking. Palm Royale wasn’t exactly a great show. However, others seem to be the thing Golden Globes voters would go for. They were critically acclaimed, had big buzz, and seemed set for a nomination but didn’t get it. While there are many contenders, these rank as the 10 surprising TV snubs of the 2025 Golden Globes, which may confuse their fans.

As music plays a crucial role in film and television, it is no surprise that many projects already in the conversation have received Golden Globe nominations for their scores and original songs. Nominations for Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez in acting marks a rare occurrence this year of musicians crossing over into acting.
Grande celebrates her first-ever Golden Globe nom for her supporting role as Glinda in Wicked: Part One while Gomez has been double-nominated for her acting in Only Murders in the Building and Emilia Pérez. Gomez will compete with Grande in the supporting actress category, which is a rare moment for music stars. It's rare for either Marvel or DC to be acknowledged at major award ceremonies, but both Agatha All Along and The Penguin have so far fared well in the list of nominations for next year's Golden Globes.
Kathryn Hahn, the McU's Agatha Harkness, has received a nod for "Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy," and many fans agree that she's deserving of a win.
However, she faces stiff competition from Jean Smart (Hacks), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), and Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This).
Deadline managed to catch up with Hahn to discuss the news and asked about recent comments that Agatha All Along served as a fitting way to "say goodbye" to the character she first played in WandaVision.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series highlighting the scripts behind this year’s awards-season movies continues with A Real Pain, Searchlight’s buzzy Sundance dramedy marking the sophomore feature directing effort of actor-filmmaker Jesse Eisenberg.
The The Social Network star also penned the script about a pair of cousins who reunite for a tour of Poland to honor their grandmother, but see older tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family’s history.
The movie also stars Kieran Culkin in his first post-Succession film role. He plays Benji opposite Eisenberg’s David (Eisenberg); together their goal is to end up at the house their grandmother left behind after the Nazis swept through and rounded up the Jews. Fun fact: the house they discover was one that was already in Eisenberg’s family. It belonged to his great aunt.

Netflix scored the most Golden Globe nominations of any media company on Monday, leading on the film front with 13 nods and the TV side, too, with 23.
The streamer’s genre-defying Spanish-language musical crime drama “Emilia Perez” landed 10 nominations, the most of any film this year, including recognition in best motion picture musical or comedy, lead actress in a musical or comedy for Karla Sofía Gascón and supporting actress for Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña. Several of Netflix’s television shows, such as the breakout limited series “Baby Reindeer,” romantic comedy “Nobody Wants This,” true-crime drama “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and political thriller “The Diplomat” each nabbed three nods.
Not far behind on the scoreboard, A24 was bestowed 12 nominations for a range of films including director Brady Corbet’s historical epic “The Brutalist” and Luca Guadagnino’s romantic drama “Queer.” Among television distributors, HBO and Max secured 14 nods for works such as “Hacks,...

A number of acclaimed, awards-hopeful films went into Monday morning’s 2025 Golden Globe nominations expected to land multiple nominations but underperformed relative to expectations.
Despite recent awards from critics groups and wins and nominations just last week from the Gotham Awards and Independent Spirit Awards, respectively, the following projects only landed one nomination each: Babygirl, A Different Man (which less than a week ago won best feature at the Gotham Awards), Nickel Boys, The Outrun, The Piano Lesson, The Seed of the Sacred Fig and Sing Sing.
Additionally, acclaimed awards hopefuls (and expected nominees in multiple categories) Blitz, The Room Next Door, September 5 and Saturday Night each only landed one nomination.
Despite racking up numerous critics prizes and an award from the British Independent Film Awards just yesterday, Hard Truths star Marianne Jean-Baptiste missed out on a Golden Globe nomination this morning, with the film also failing to land any nominations.

The awards season rush has finally begun on Monday, Dec. 9 with the first major nominations announcement of the 2025 film and television award show circuit. Bright and early as always, the Golden Globes nominations were revealed and previewed honors for some of the year's biggest releases in movies and television. Netflix walked away with a stunning 36 total nominations.
Emilia Pérez proved the strongest contender with a whopping 10 nominations, which was enough for the film to make history as the musical or comedy nominee with the most nominations in a single year. The movie scored dual Best Picture nominations in the musical or comedy and non-English language categories, while landing three acting nominations for its trio of actresses.

It’s a good day for “Emilia Perez.”
Netflix’s genre-defying awards contender — the streaming giant’s awards season priority — earned 10 Golden Globes nominations on Monday, the most ever for a film in the comedy/musical category and the second-most in Globes history.
Robert Altman’s classic “Nashville” holds the Golden Globes record for nominations with 11 in the drama category. The previous comedy/musical films with the most nominations were “Cabaret” and “Barbie” with nine.
Written and directed by Jacques Audiard, “Emila Perez” is widely expected to be a major player at the Oscars. The film is a musical hybrid, with drama and action movie elements sprinkled throughout its story about a drug cartel leader who undergoes gender-confirmation surgery and begins to live as her true self.

Below are The Hollywood Reporter’s executive editor (awards) Scott Feinberg’s five biggest takeaways from Monday’s announcement of the 2025 Golden Globes nominations on the film side.
1. Emilia Pérez surges back to life
In last week’s flurry of awards announcements, the top critics groups on both coasts, the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, as well as the Gotham Awards and the National Board of Review, almost entirely snubbed Emilia Pérez. But Netflix’s Spanish-language musical roared back to life on Sunday with a sweep of the European Film Awards, and on Monday with a field-leading 10 Golden Globe nominations, surpassing Cabaret’s and Barbie’s nine to set a new all-time record on the musical/comedy side. (It finished just one behind drama Nashville for the all-time Globes record.)

With nominations announced by Mindy Kaling and a slightly named challenged Morris Chestnut very early Monday, the formerly HFPA-run ceremony waved a wand of aspiration in front of the likes of Hacks, Cate Blanchett, Slow Horses‘ Gary Oldman, Emilia Perez, Jodie Foster, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking’s stars, The Bear & more. However, even with so many categories it sometimes feels impossible anyone could be left out, for some it will not be “the party of the year,” to quote Globes boss Helen Hoehne this Am.
