The Resident Evil franchise has expanded to include nearly 30 games, live-action films, TV series, novels, and animated movies, with the main conflict revolving around the Umbrella Corporation and the fictional Raccoon City infected with zombie viruses. The animated films based on Resident Evil have a varying degree of integration with the games' basic plot and cast, with the later films being more aligned and typically taking place in between the games. However, the release order of the animated films does not align with the timeline and shouldn't necessarily be watched in order of release date. For example, the first animated film to watch is Biohazard 4D-Executer, which takes place in 1998 during the Raccoon City outbreak. and the third film to watch is Resident Evil: Degeneration, the first feature-length animated movie set in the Resident Evil world and featuring the characters and storylines of the games.

In the breakout horror anime Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, Akira Tendo and his friends have plenty of optimism and determination to live, but zero ability to fight off a zombie horde. While action horror heroes mow down monsters with all manner of weapons, Akira and company find themselves in a funny take on zombie horror that emphasizes the spiritual growth of the characters rather than their struggle to survive.
Zom 100's heroes are more focused on enjoying their post-apocalypse life than anything else, making the series different from other horrors. There are many other anime out there that take an innovative approach to the horror genre. While some of them feature similar comedy elements that characterize Zom 100, the majority of them are horror through and through.

The Resident Evil franchise includes three animated movies and a miniseries, but not all of these installments are created equal. Even though the Resident Evil series includes some of the most successful horror video games ever, screen adaptations of the franchise have been a mixed bag. Director Paul Ws Anderson’s 2002 movie Resident Evil didn’t impress critics upon release, but the movie did scare up some serious returns at the box office. However, while that first Resident Evil managed to spawn a string of sequels, the live-action movies in the series were frequently criticized for their lack of fidelity to the source material.
While Anderson didn’t direct Resident Evil 2 or 3, he did remain a major creative force throughout the series. As such, the Resident Evil movie adaptations gradually gained a reputation as fun guilty pleasure action-horror movies that bore little relation to their supposed inspiration. Thus,...

Audiences have a new Resident Evil movie to look forward to with Resident Evil: Death Island, an animated feature releasing in the summer of 2023. The computer-animated horror film includes characters from the same universe as the popular Resident Evil video games, and it is the fourth film and fifth project to be released as part of the animated Resident Evil movie franchise. Resident Evil: Death Island gets its name from the movie's setting, the prison on Alcatraz Island. In the film, Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield are on two separate missions that lead all the main characters to the island for a new horror-filled adventure.
Resident Evil: Death Island is directed by Eiichirō Hasumi and the screenplay was written by Makoto Fukami. Both Hasumi and Fukami have been involved with past Resident Evil projects. Hasumi directed Netflix's Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness animated series, which was released in 2021. Fukami...

Based on Capcom's hit survival-horror video game franchise, the CG animated film series currently spans three installments – Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation, and Resident Evil: Vendetta. A fourth installment, Resident Evil: Death Island, is now on the way, which will unite some of the horror franchise's most famous characters for the first time.
Now, the Resident Evil: Death Island trailer has been unveiled (via IGN).
The 30-second trailer teases some of the animated movie's plot and shows Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and Chris Redfield together for the first time. Watch the trailer above.

The latest trailer for the Netflix original animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness reveals even more of the upcoming adaptation, but it doesn’t really help to answer the question that’s on many Resident Evil fans’ minds: “When does Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness take place?”
While even a quick dive into the Resident Evil timeline can give you a headache (just take a look at this), more people than ever seem to be interested in the Resident Evil chronology after Resident Evil Village‘s ending clearly referenced key events in the Re franchise and arguably positioned the series to “return” to that franchise mythology in future installments.
So how does Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness fit into that mythology? Well, according to this statement posted on a Capcom website, it takes place in 2006:
“In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House’s network.

The Resident Evil Reboot movie reboot will be here in fall 2021. That is, assuming everything goes according to plan. Constantine Film is currently in production on a new movie based on the iconic Capcom video game franchise. But, as 2020 has made clear, plans for theatrical releases are not exactly set in stone, given all the uncertainty the industry is contending with. That having been said, the studio has revealed a September 2021 release date.

Horror and animation don’t exactly go hand in hand. I’m not exactly sure why, maybe it is because when people think of animated movies their minds always think of children’s or family movies. Even when you ink of animated horror, my mind goes to A Nightmare Before Christmas, Paranorman, Monster House or Coraline. All very entertaining movies but still aimed at children. But in recent years there have been a few more ‘adult’ horror animations with Resident Evil: Degeneration and Seoul Station, while anime has always, on a smaller scale, been pushing horror with films like Vampire Hunter D and Blood: The Last Vampire. Attack of the Demons though is very different from any of these.

During the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom revealed that a new Resident Evil animated series is coming to Netflix in 2021.
Described as a CG anime horror series, the upcoming Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will follow Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they embark on a journey that will “reveal a Resident Evil world unlike anything seen before.” Sadly, Capcom isn’t revealing many of the finer points of the show’s plot at this time.
What we do know is that Infinite Darkness is being produced and supervised by Capcom’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi who has been involved with the Resident Evil series in some capacity since its inception. He’s also served as the producer of such animated adaptations as Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation, and Resident Evil: Vendetta if you’re looking for a better idea of his style and the quality of the works he typically oversees.

Check out the first trailer for the all CG Resident Evil Vendetta film by Capcom.
Capcom released the trailer, er teaser, above today to show off the new CG film Resident Evil: Vendetta. The movie will release "next spring" in Japan, with no word on international dates of release.
Characters Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers are the main characters of the film as they explore a story set after the events of Resident Evil 6, but before the upcoming Resident Evil 7. This movie works as a bridge between the two games.

Paul W.S. Andersen’s Resident Evil movies have long been derided by fans of the game (including me) for being accurate to their source material in only the most tenuous of fashions. Of course, after 5 movies, expecting anything different isn’t just an exercise in futility, it’s a workout regimen; the Re films became their own canon a long time ago.
Thankfully, Capcom seems to have heard the grumblings of the game’s fans and have released a duo of CG-rendered Resident Evil films that firmly fit into the game’s canon, first with the excellent Resident Evil: Degeneration, and now Damnation.
The movie starts off with a quick and dirty history lesson: after the dissolution of the Ussr, the Eastern Slav Republic known as the Eastern Slav Republic (not a typo...couldn’t they call it Randomia or something?) is embroiled in a brutal civil war between...

The Resident Evil brand makes money, as well as nightmare inducing creatures. The franchise has become a multimedia juggernaut with six major games in the series, five films, a few comics and now a second direct to DVD CGI film in the form of “Resident Evil: Damnation.” Whereas the live action films tell an alternate story of sorts where the Umbrella Corporation basically lost control and the T-Virus that caused the fabled Raccoon City Outbreak ended up spreading across the world, the CGI films follow the game canon. “Damnation” is a direct sequel to “Resident Evil: Degeneration” which saw Re icons Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield teamed up again. That story took place directly after RE4 and actually set up for RE5. “Damnation” picks up a few years later and takes place after RE5 but before RE6. Whew!! Okay now on to the film. “Degeneration” felt more like part of...

Last week, Joss Whedon returned to our screens with the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Cabin in the Woods, with which Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) made his directorial debut to brilliant critical acclaim, with a script he co-wrote with Whedon.
This week, Whedon returns once more to our home entertainment systems with the release of The Avengers, the year’s biggest film to date, and the third-highest-grossing film of all time. It’s been one we’ve been looking forward to ever since its release, and now it has arrived for us to bask in its awesomeness once more.
My picks of the week:
Joss Whedon’s The Avengers & Jay Oliva’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns – Part 1.
And Bond 50 – the complete 22-film James Bond collection on Blu-ray.

Last week saw the release of The Avengers here in the UK, the year’s biggest film to date, and the third-highest-grossing film of all time. Naturally, it was a pretty good week – somewhat marred, however, by the fact that the UK edition has a violent scene edited and Joss Whedon’s commentary track omitted.
Needless to say, I’ll be importing my copy from the Us sometime in the future, after its release there tomorrow. (It also means I’ll have the proper title – ‘The Avengers’ – on the cover, and not just ‘Avengers Assemble’, a name which I refuse to use, because ‘The Avengers’ is just way cooler.)
This week is just as big a week all round, with Whedon returning to the home entertainment market in the form of The Cabin in the Woods, along with the equally-praised Indonesian action film, The Raid, and many more excellent films.

Wait, did you think there was just one Resident Evil film coming out this year? How wrong you were, little raccoon! Later this month, we’ll be hit with another Resident Evil film, but this one is an all-cg feature that doesn’t require the talents of either Milla Jovovich or Paul W.S. Anderson. Strange, right? Next week sees the release of Makota Kamiya‘s Resident Evil: Damnation, another totally CG outing from the director of 2008′s Resident Evil: Degeneration that returns to the (bloody) adventures of United States Special Agent Leon S. Kennedy, now tasked with sneaking into a foreign country to see just what is up with their use of Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) during a war. Guess what, their B.O.W.s are not being used for fun. To get you pumped for this all-new Resident Evil animated battle royale, we’re giving away two (2) prize packs from Resident Evil: Damnation to...

While Lara Croft and Mortal Kombat each had brief moments in the sun, Resident Evil is really the only successful film franchise based on a video game. And while the five film and counting series has proven extremely lucrative, many of the game’s fans have been left unmoved. In order to rectify this, a second Resident Evil film franchise was launched, one that hems closer to the games in both character, style and in being, well animated. The series, which launched with 2008’s Resident Evil: Degeneration continues with the new, Resident Evil: Damnation which is designed to bridge the gap between games five and six in the series. Earlier today, Capcom and Sony Pictures hit Comic-Con to show off six minutes of footage and answer tons of eclectic fan questions. Hit the jump for the details The six minutes of footage on display was decidedly mediocre. While the animation was crisp and clear,...

Giant man-hunting bugs? I was all in 15 years ago, and now that the franchise has gone animated, I am without question, once more, all in! That’s right, the latest film in the Starship Troopers franchise is all about the CG-animation, and I for one think that is a brilliant approach. If anything has ever really hurt the Starship Troopers films, it’s the hokey special effects viewers are force-fed. An animated installment however, will likely dispel the majority of nauseating visuals, as there are some completely different visual possibilities in store once you cast aside actual human beings. Remember how cool Resident Evil: Degeneration was? Well, let’s hope Invasion brings enough punch to the table to rival that!

Capcom offering digital versions of previous Re titles in a platform-specific special editions.
Hey, do you think when you play Resident Evil 6 this October, you'll get a yen for some of the older entries in the series? Capcom figures you will (in my case, they're right). Coming day and date with the release of Resident Evil 6 will be the Resident Evil 6 Anthology for the PS3 and the Resident Evil Archives for the 360.
Each release will come with slightly tweaked content, with the PS3, to my mind, getting the substantially better release, substituting Resident Evil: Director's Cut and RE2 for the 360's HD remake of Code Veronica X and the Resident Evil: Degeneration movie. Resident Evil 6 will be disc-based while the rest of the content will be digital downloads (available for Msrp $89.99 all together), the full lineups of which you can find below:
