    1) The most important thing is that the series is watchable.

    2) It's an anime but made in China. I'm so use to listening in Japanesse that is weird in Mandarin but you'll get accustomed.

    3) The plot is really interesting, something that reminds me of Saiki K anime, the guy that has enourmous power but doesnt wanna make a big deal of it. But in this case the main character is really careful cause if his full power is realeased it may cause the end of the world.

    4) The story telling is weird I think, the plot doesnt flow naturally sometimes.

    5) It's entertaining, you wanna keep watching episode after episode despite the flaws. It's something that may bother some people, but it doesnt ruin the final product.

It's the first time i've watched an anime from China, I think is good enough to say that they have potential to develope some interesting series in the future.

I'm not a huge anime buff, but I really liked this so far (ep. 6). It's funny and I like the way the hero is so low key. Enjoyable.
  • You'll notice that this anime is similar to The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, but its better because of the animation is cool, the comedy things and the romance also. I dont understand of people who review this anime worse, for me who watch chinese anime for the first time seems like there's nothing wrong with this anime and its recommended to watch. The creator of this anime is really like dragon ball i think 5555. The op song is really nice btw.
  • This anime is easily 10 out of 10 in the original Mandarin Chinese. The story is about an all-powerful teen, with the last name King, who hides most of his magical powers to survive in the ordinary world. Of course, he is unable to hide for long and adventure ensues.

English subtitles are accurate but you miss out on the cultural nuances and beauty of the Chinese language The Giant Frog, for example, is really called Sky Swallowing Toad. Words appear way too fast and you will have to pause and rewind frequently. It is written at a seinen level so a high school education is useful for full appreciation.

The story mixes Chinese mythical elements like alchemy balls, paper runes, and spells with modern video games, metaphysics, and humor. The animation style copies Japanese anime to a tee. It is funny throughout with real jokes instead of physical humor.

    Don't miss it.

If you like a funny relaxing anime with some side of power up action, this is pretty good. Un like many, i didn't read the source material, so this is pretty refreshing for me. The main characters are flushed out and like able. The ending is so so, thus my rating. A dub version would help this anime's cause.
  • Started slow paced but it was well worth the wait!!! One of the beat anime I've seen. Different than other shows.
  • It's based on a web novel with OP protagonist trope. Some say it's a rip off of Saiki K, but that's least of the problem because this kind of OP protagonist trope has been super common in light/web novel scene for a while now and Saiki K itself was a late comer to that trend.

What makes this 3/10 is very simple -- it's just bad.

The source material was actually fairly entertaining and popular because it was makes a lot over the top reference of real world people, events and memes. In fact, most of source material was kind of joke of what's popular at the time, but somewhat tying that to the overarching plot, which made things interesting.

But the anime is nothing like the source material. Most of meme and reference were cut out (legal reasons?) and these were actually the soul of what made original web novel interesting. After cutting bunch of stuff out, story was then stitched together in a messy way that it makes absolutely no sense. And to make things even worse, around episode 8 or so, it completely diverged from source material and starting making it's own story. You'd think that now you don't have cut out half of source plot, they can write a comprehensible story, right? Nope, it's somehow even worse and make less sense.

Not sure why this became an anime to begin with. If you have cut out half of original story arc for whatever reason, you should just realize it's not a proper source material to make an anime with.
  • It's a blatant rip off, nay plagiarized the vastly superior Japanese anime "Sakaki K". All the characters are the same - the super powered main character, the school beauty who is attracted to him and the main character doesn't care, the sporty friend, the chubby friend, the weird parents set in a school - yep basically the same thing. Still a reasonably fun watch - hence the higher than expected score of 6/10.

    Great
Overpower protagonist, fights, romance and a great story. INCREDIBLE.

Not perfect, but you can really enjoy the anime.

    Meh..
The narration in between is veey annoying, all all characters are over exaggerated.
  • This series starts out interesting, with a good premise and slowly-built characters to make it enjoyable. But around the last 4 or 5 episodes (the sword battle) it starts becoming repetitious, and the ending is poorly written and very unfulfilling. If a story doesn't have a good ending, the series is a flop.

I give this a 5-star rating just for the startup story line, but it loses 5 stars in the yawner, lazy-writing finish. They could have ended this so much better.
  • I would 100 percent recommend you to give this show a try. The animation is great and the plot is interesting but currently there is no dubbed version of it so you would have to listen to it on it's original language or in sub. This was my first time watching a subbed show all the way through because I don't really like to read the subtitles because sometimes you have to pause the show but I hard watched all the dubbed shows that I thought interesting which was Hundreds. I looked online and through YouTube to fine another good dub show for weeks but I had watch them all, that's when I decided to watch a sub show and this show first came to mind because I saw it on a YouTube video and it looked very interesting. Overall I would recommend you watch.

I would say it's a decent anime story, it does have a lot of other popular anime references and it also starts off without context until later on to explain the demon in the anime. Overall the game and other anime references aren't used too much I would say even though there's a lot of them it's not like it impacts too much of the story I would say. You also get a good ending on the 1st season of the anime and then later on in the 2nd season it builds up a new threat in the anime which then adds to the story more creating a new threat that could possibly hurt the immortal king even though it never happens.

It brought the world in turmoil. But the only Issue I have with it is that it never expanded the arc with the Underworld or explained it in any way. It only showed the demon world after Wang Ling, the main protagonist has created a crack in the space time continuum. Another thing is that the story gives an end but then it continues which is good but the problem is even up to Immortal king 2 and 3 it doesn't explain the underworld.

Overall the 1st one I would say is decent overall, It adds a build up to the story and even some events that were prior which seem random at first get explained later on and add a new event based on what happened to the floating sword train thing that blew up. The only problem I would have is the Underworld not being in depth of view and how they explained it, because they explained that the soul of Sun Rong was shattered during the arc which doesn't explain how they would be collected in the Underworld in order to revive Sun Rong.

And plus I would like to have some ultimate force that the Immortal King would have trouble with because sure I mean its the Immortal King but a good character should also have struggles not just overpower the whole entire time. Which I mean Sun Rong was a struggle because her soul was apparently shattered into pieces or broken which could've added an arc where they had to collect the soul pieces back together in order to revive Sun Rong. Overall I'd give it a 6/10 because it's decent but doesn't explain everything lorewise.
  • The character born so Op it blows your mind but chooses to lay low and focus on the mundane. As other reviewers mentioned this VERY similar to the Japanese anime ( The Disastrous Life of Saiki K).

The first three or four episodes are fine and interesting. Unfortunately the cracks turn into craters after that. It seems like the show was intended as a comedy but someone decided to make it an epic instead. The end result is a show that is supposed to be funny but is too stiff to deliver the joke and too silly to pass for an epic.

Past the interesting start you end up with something really boring and nonsensical.
  • So first off...this story line is amazing but a bit rushed. I wish to see more episodes. In regards to the other comments. I 100% disagree, the love line and pace all makes sense, maybe that person is highly uneducated. In all the plot ploy and graphics is amazing, with great songs and action packed joy. EVERYONE MUST WATCH THIS
  • Animation is Top tier and great character designs. Fighting scenes are kinda bland on the middle episodes until the end. First few episodes are entertaining and refreshing because of how the characters are spending time each other, and the setting takes place in a magic school (loving the school life genre anime) + good comedy... Ending is great too. Although, there are some parts in the story that questions me.. Watched again for the second time.
  • Coming from the most powerful being in this universe of theirs was the immortal king or what so ever, with no emotions turned into something different when love came to him, it was the only phase in the imperfect perfect world he tired to create but when the odds where against him he finally decided to fell in the shoes of the king he was supposed to be the full king of love, like other the anime the whole dynamic changed when he lost control making him vulnerable to good judgement in the end an external force had to take the front row, to me that was flawed because the one person who loved him was put above everything else nature and even his own self just to feel that love again. At the time of this review I've only seen the first season maybe he would eventually change who knows right.
  • Honestly the only reason i watched it was because i was out of animes to watch but this one had good shading, better than Japanese anime shading (no offence) and welp the storyline was also really good.
  • Loved Season 1. Waiting and hoping for a second season. About to re-watch it. Hope to see more development and see how things pan out for all charaters moving forward. Each character is likable in their own way. I

I recommend giving this show a chance.
  • I think the show started off looking really nice and seeming decent, but the more you watch, the worse it gets. The anime itself feels like it jumps around a lot on whether it wants to focus more on being serious/action-packed or if it wants to be a comedy with cartoon-like effects that mightve been found on Looney Tunes (i.e a serious meeting was taking place then one of the characters was in a big ball of violence/ fight cloud with body guards who had wrapped her up in cloth to carry her away, yet no one batted an eye at it, even when she escaped 10 seconds later. Just didn't make sense). Overall, it feels like the tried to do a different version of The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K but looked at every aspect of that show which was good, then made made a worse showing of it. Even the plot doesn't seem to make sense at times with random fights that vaguely seem like they're meant to be serious happening in front of teachers, who just watch for a bit before stepping in (even if someone's arm was taken off, but it was fixed 2 seconds later so its fine I guess). And there's a competition in it with a thing that counts up at increasing speeds depending on how many 'alters' are captured, but the counting up doesn't seem to increase when it's meant to, and slows down for the sake of it, and there are alters captured even though they clearly shouldnt be because all the characters are clearly accounted for. Almost seems like it's randomised. I get stuff like that has to be slow enough to be interesting, but maybe they shouldnt have had the limit be 100% for the counts then.

Tl;dr: Don't watch it, it'll make you angry at how the plot is carried out, and doesn't do the comedy or action consistently well enough to be likable or enjoyable

    Amazing
    Warning: Spoilers
Some people think it is similar to the Saiki K series. I agree (the similarities in stereotypes, the "master" references, the powerful popular girl, etc. Are quite noticeable if you have seen both series) but this series hits differently because it does not go into the restrictions of Saiki K's comedy. Immortal King is able to go into topics that the Saiki K could never fully cover, like the main character being able to fall in, and what if the main love interest dies? The series share a crazy amount of parallels, (it is a very long list,) but Immortal King gets to live outside of the restrictions of Saiki K's comedy and everything turning out fine because of the gag comedy. It is like a good reincarnation of Saiki K because the main character gets to move farther in his own character development in the Immortal King series. (That may be debatable, but you have to respect how much Wang Ling grew from completely cold reactions and relationships to trying everything to save his lover, even if it meant forgetting her.) Saiki K left a large group of viewers wanting more, and this may just be the storyline to fulfill that consumer demand.

    Trash
I don't have nothing really to say about this anime/manga Now everyone has their own opinions and stuff like that right but making an MC that's too OP where there's no type of challenge for them is boring and lame , the main has no personality at all , and like the reviews below said it's like it was suppose to be a comedy but someone wanted it to be in the action category and most of the jokes thrown in there is corny and not funny , not only that the English translation is trash it doesn't make sense , character development doesn't make sense , what's the plot where the plot when there's this op ass MC that literally been made to have been OP since birth WHERE IS THE PLOT it doesn't make sense but it had 2 seasons and their planning on making a 3rd so it must be good to others but to me this is one of the most tucked up anime to have ever been made from China.
  • Warning: Spoilers
First off, this is based off of a webseries. Regardless of it keeping the entire original cast or not (if you've ever read anything that got turned into a movie or show you know this is common), the way it is told is fantastic.

I can agree that the gargly and deep narrator voice is strange and sounds forced. Not a fan of that.

The animation itself is beautifully executed and the artwork is pleasing to the eye.

As a big fan of Saiki K I can promise everyone here who doesn't know what they are talking about, that this is very different and in no way a ripoff. There are 4 similarities. 1. Overpowered main character born with abilities 2. Main character is in high school or post-secondary school. 3. A love interest bothers the main character. 4. Main character is trying to hide their abilities from the world, but for different reasons than Saiki.

Not only are these abilities admittedly magical in this show, but the school is for people with these magical abilities, in a universe where it seems that everyone has the same abilities. The main character also eventually develops a returned love interest in the girl who fawns over him, and different universes are called into check, along with a brief hint that he might not be the most powerful being in the universe by the ruler of "the underworld" once the love interest is killed by the main antagonist, but the real-life concepts of the Big Bang, and space-time are also brought into play. The character does not have the ability to manipulate it himself, but needs the help of the Demon King to achieve a brief disruption to the laws of nature.

Needless to say, I'm very excited to see where they explore the love interest/assassination, the underworld connection to the love interest, the reason that the assassin is so over powered(as with hinted eye color coordination, it seems like she may be his mother) and what the heck is going on. We don't even know how this over powered "seven star team" came to be or why when the main protagonist went all out on the assassin, she could take it, but when he swatted her into the earth like a bug, she was somehow immediately incapacitated.

Not to mention, no one has ever said the words "immortal king" in the series so far...

There's a lot of unanswered questions!

I wish that others would get over themselves when they see a slight similarity to another anime and just enjoy the show.

The fight scenes alone are perfect 10's and the story isn't being carried by jokes no it's being carried by the art it is a beautiful masterpiece that I hope makes it to best anime of the year.
  • Forgive me, I'm still on the first episode but this already seems like a ripoff- we've got the overpowered main character (saiki), school beauty (teruhashi) and the hot blooded and intense side character (hairo). I hope I don't see anymore characters that seem like ripoffs of Saiki K characters, it's really bugging me.
