Antonio Adamo, since retired, is noted for his hit mega-productions for Private and later daring! Media, famous hits like "Roma" and "Virtualia". This transitional film for Private before he signed with daring! goes after the classic Sharon Stone film and creates an interesting and far sexier story.

Jane Darling is exquisite as Cathy, the murderous femme fatale who plays cat and mouse with police psychologist George Uhl, a Euro Porn vet who next became an international star as Caesar in the "Roma" trilogy.

Shot in Prague in English (with initial scenes set in London), the thriller has other significant beauties in support, such as Natali D'Angelo as Uhl's blonde main squeeze and fan favorite Angel Dark as Sonja, but it is Jane who carries the film -alternately appealing and scary. An early sex scene has her suddenly putting a plastic bag over her man's head while jerking him off to heighten his orgasm, but killing him.

This sort of violence is standard issue in soft-core erotic thrillers by mainstream filmmakers, like the original's director Paul Verhoeven, but is generally avoided for fear of censorship in Adult Cinema in that unlike the freewheeling Roughies era of the '70s sex and violence no longer mix.

Narrated as flashback by a worse-for-wear Uhl in his wheelchair, story suffers from poor dialog, example being his declaration: "That woman entered my brain as a crab, and she had taken possession of it". But what Adamo lacks in clarity he makes up for in explicit content, with the Euro emphasis on anal sex and d.p.'s, performed by such glamorous women. I especially liked the downbeat ending in which instead of getting caught Cathy gloats.
  • Let's get this out of the way -- this is, flat-out, a pornographic rip-off of BASIC INSTINCT 2, with Jane Darling in the role that Sharon Stone made notorious. Now, porn filmmakers have been ripping off mainstream film for probably as long as they've been doing anything, so there's nothing new about that. But Antonio Adamo, who used to be a fairly imaginative director and storyteller, doesn't seem willing or able to do anything but do rip-offs these days. His latest project, not yet added to the IMDb, is an equally blatant rip-off of HBO's ROME.

Making matters even worse is that this is filmed with the actors speaking "English", but with other soundtracks and foreign language subtitles available. Basically, the studio seems to be operating under the assumption that nobody in English-speaking countries gives a damn about understanding the plot of the movie, and that all they care about is the sex scenes. Who knows, maybe they're right about most viewers. But I'm not most viewers.

The sex scenes are pretty appealing, and Jane Darling certainly looks better than Sharon Stone. She also has some fairly good acting chops, although she hams it up, too. I just wish that I had some idea of what she was saying when she tries to talk in English ...
