After getting in a car accident, a woman is held in a shelter with two men, who claim the outside world is affected by a widespread chemical attack.
Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.) handles a VHS tape of the fictitious movie "Cannibal Airlines." This is an Easter egg, one of a series of satirical VHS packages created by Writer Rob Schrab and used as decorations at Producer J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot production offices.
Michelle, please don't hang up. Just talk to me, okay? I can't believe you just left.
Howard had a radio in the bunker that he claimed had no transmissions (stating everyone was dead), yet when Michelle escapes, on her car radio she hears all about the war against fighting the aliens.
CORRECTION: *There is no evidence to suggest that Howard even tries his radio in the bunker, and also noted by another contributor - His radio is a VHF radio that would normally pick up emergency broadcasts.
However, toward the end of the film, Michelle hears a broadcast on an AM radio - Howard's radio WOULD NOT have been able to receive this signal.
In addition, Howard's motives are unclear. If he is keeping Michelle hostage, why would he tell her the radio works???*
