Awaiting something in the neighborhood of Breaking Dawn, I must admit I was disappointed. Not from Kellys acting, although she at times had some trouble too. But then, you can't lead the movie all by yourself. The rest was, I have to say, pathetic. The villain should focus on some expressive acting. I mean, where's a Malkovich when you need one, right? And I'm still trying to understand why somebody gave this movie a prize for editing, no offense. For instance, look at the scenes between Kelly and the bad girl (don't remember her name, doesn't matter) at the nice guys place. Mirror in the back, distracting, hit without blood (and the punch was dubbed close to a Rocky's cross, after all, it's a movie, we are talking hyper-reality here, people). Then the guy from behind chloroforming her (and that passing out was really bad, too, sorry Kelly). Can you see him in one scene, then not, then again? I mean, did any of the staff actually watch the movie after it was finished? And don't talk to me about budget, either. I think the Blairwitch Project went on an even lower budget, and it was freaky, followed by a sequel, and rocked the Hollyworld to a completely new movie experience level.
  • The first half of the movie was good. Looking for her sister was very sensational. It was going really well until she found her but their run away part which was long for nearly 20 minutes was really full of nonsense.. The only thing they were supposed to take a cab and ask the driver to get them a police station or airport or wherever they want to go. I have never been in Manhattan but according to this movie it should be such a small city that people can run into each other easily. It was awkwardly long and illogical. Meantime I could not get an idea who killed the guy and why he was killed.

In my opinion the sound work is the only good thing and the rest is just a waste of time...

First things first - first thing I noticed is Kelly Overton (Tyler) is a cute girl. The rest of the actors was nice, too. But the second thing is - I've seen little to no acting. Or - was it too much? Probably not. It was good enough for an amateur project full of amateurs picked up on the street, but please forgive me, this was really poor. Most of the time it reminded me the level of acting (and directing and cutting and screenplay etc...) of an endless Latin American soap opera. The action was half good. First half of the movie was OK. A girl in NY looking for her sis, finding clues one after another leading her to her goal. After her meeting with Clare (or during?) the script begun to loose sense. Would anyone with common sense act like Tyler in the movie? I doubt it, and since then the film kept losing it's drive. In fact the second part of it was boring, predictable, irrational, did not make any sense. I kept watching it until the credits just to be sure it was a complete waste of time. Sorry, beware.
  • The direction and editing of this movie is really good. The acting is varying from OK to really good (the "Conor"-character being one of the top performed). I can't really put my finger on why exactly it looks so low budget because nothing stands out as lacking in that regard so I'm guessing it's pertaining to the equipment used.

So I look forward to see future productions from the same director and producer.

The biggest problem with the movie is the plot. It's OK, but it's not very original and without giving any specifics away, it has moments that feels kinda .. silly.. And I thought it totally lacked a sense of suspense. But that's just personal taste I suppose. If you like mystery-type thrillers you can give this movie a shot. It's solid work behind it and probably delivers what you would expect from a low budget movie in this genre.

(I don't know if it _is_ a low budget movie but it certainly has that feel to it.)

(Review and rating based on the trailer)

After seeing Kelly Overton as Claire Sinclair (!) in BEAUTY & THE BEAST "Saturn Returns" last year, I Googled her, hoping to find more, and found this. Only recently did I find the trailer, though. Just searching for a plain simply name like THE COLLECTIVE wasn't rewarding, but scrolling down after entering THE COLLECTIVE 2008 at trusty old stalwart VuClip brought better results. Not that I can get to the item on MovieAgent and the VideoDepot thingie just didn't work. But the movie is sold out on DVD. Despite all the criticism on this site, it sold out, so why don't they get more stock?

The title seems kinda dumb. Maybe it might seem more fitting if I had seen the movie, but to the uninitiated, it doesn't say anything. Pretty girl desperately in search of her lost sister in New York, couldn't they have called it FRANTIC IN THE BIG CITY or something like that? The trailer seems totally promising even if I catch the general disdain of the reviewers at large. Kelly is beautiful, sincere, and would make an ideal heroine to root for. Pity I cannot get further than the trailer.

Any advice? Any merciful assistance? So that I too could perhaps one day give an unimpressed review of this movie? People, be glad that you were able to see this one. I am less fortunate in that regard. RavenGlamDVDCollector@gmail.com, 24/7/365 hunting down the elusive titles, all responses answered, even if just to chat about old favorites.

Addendum, 26 May 2015. For the third time, placing a despondent review on IMDb has brought me luck. Found item available after all. I know I'm speaking to an audience of none, as this title is old news, but maybe I could realize this month's obsession...! So look out for my extension to this review.

Addendum, 26 March 2017. Currently watching. You know what? Instant like! I research and obtain and watch loads of movies I quite disparage about because I thought they'd really be special, but they usually carry some serious flaw. This one is a goodie! Kelly Overton is really, really pretty, soft glamorous look, glorious cheekbone structure, she plays this sincere loving girl looking for her sister in New York. It makes for riveting viewing and looks great on the big screen. Indeed, a heroine to root for. Okay, the plot goes haywire. What were those people doing in the cathedral? Religious fervor induced by singing Latin? And the ending is super-weak. I like it that running away with her sister in tow is the chosen defense, with a large plank used to ward off a pursuer, but the bad guys simply self-destruct and give up, lame, lame ending. But for the promising first half, surprisingly good performance by fragile- looking Wynn Everett, and the magic that is Kelly Overton, recommended watching.

I have to say that bit again... the magic that is Kelly Overton. Cute as a kitten Kelly Overton.

    Warning: Spoilers
Very good movie with great actors. My first impression when the movie started was that it's gonna be a very bad and boring one but it turned out good. Although it's low budget, I enjoyed it a lot since it has a beautiful script. I'm giving it 8 stars because part of the story about Brian pretending to be the killer is not very clear to me. Rost said they needed one last thing "belief" but his need for this last element is not really clear to me. Am I missing something there? maybe. One thing that made this movie more interesting to me was the existence of "lies", nobody could be trusted at one point close to the end. The Producer could have made the Janitor play a little more part in the ending. I'll have to say it's a great movie with a perfect ending.
