While visiting her crazy father in the asylum where he is confined, Angela Moping meets mild-mannered, completely rational Mr. Loveday. Convinced that this sweet fellow, convicted of a single murder years ago, is completely rehabilitated, Angela campaigns to have him released, even though he has made a rather comfortable life for himself in his confinement. At last he agrees that a "little outing" might do him good and accepts Angela's largesse. From here on in, Waugh's famous biting wit takes over as Angela lives to regret her arrogant "generosity."
