    Storyline

    Edit
At a July 4 barbecue, gramps tells the kids the story of Michael Malone, a documentary filmmaker and Michael Moore look-alike who hates America and wants to abolish July 4th. He refuses to celebrate with his nephew Josh, who's shipping out soon to the Middle East. That night, Michel has a vision of his hero, JFK, who predicts that three ghosts will visit Michael. Sure enough, General Patton, George Washington, and country music star Trace Adkins visit Michael show him the fruits of patriotism, just wars, and pacifism. Meanwhile, Arab terrorists want Malone to help them with a propaganda film. Is he the next Leni Riefenstahl or will he see the light? —<jhailey@hotmail.com>

    • Goofs
Patton speaks dismissively of his portrayal in Patton (1970) ("That Patton was an actor!"). And yet throughout the film Kelsey Grammer speaks in the gruff, gravely voice that George C. Scott used in that picture. In fact, the real historical Patton spoke in a sharp, nasal, and slightly Southern accented voice.
    • Quotes

[By order of the head terrorist, Aziz, a terrorist was attempting to go biking down a hill on a lightly smashed up bicycle with a large grenade like bomb tied to his back to blow up a group of insurgents. As he succeeds in going down the hill, he crashes his bicycle and flies through the air on to a car and nothing happens. Another terrorist goes down to inspect the error, realizing that he forgot to pull the pin while in the air, and in that case carelessly pulls it only to blow only him and himself up with the car]

Terrorist: We have at least destroyed an infidel's car.

      Aziz: That was my car.

b- at best, c+ at worst
Two disclaimers first - one, i am a conservative and two, i am a huge zucker fan.

now, overall, i think the worst aspect of the film is that it was about 15 minutes too long. there was just enough dead air in the movie during the "dream sequences" that the film lost momentum and purpose.

despite that, it had its funny moments. Farley was great. Grammar was on screen too long, and we could have used a little more o'Reilly (even though i am not a fan). trace Adkins was kind of annoying, and while i am a devotee of Leslie Nielson, it is getting time to let him go to pasture. the father from Frazier or somebody like that would have done a better job. Nielson is just looking a little unsure of himself.

nonetheless, the movie had some bright spots. the Rosie o'Donnell scene was genius and the most all of the scenes with the two hapless terrorists were cute. also, the bicycle terrorist scene at the beginning was quite clever, as was the terrorist training film in the vein of "goofus and gallant".

quite hit and miss, but worth at least one viewing. in watching this though, one becomes wistful for the group days of zucker and zucker.
