In 2003, a few years after “Freaks and Geeks” and a few before “Superbad,” Seth Rogen sat in a Hollywood boardroom with his best friend and creative partner, Evan Goldberg. They were barely legal and new to Los Angeles, pitching a teen sex comedy set in ancient Rome called “Gen Ccx.” Rogen doesn’t remember much about the script — it never got made. But something an executive said at the meeting stuck with him for more than two decades.
“I love movies, but now I have this fear that my job is to ruin them,” the unnamed exec told them. Twenty-two years later, that tragicomic koan would become the driving force behind “The Studio,” the scorching showbiz satire that stars Rogen as the newly appointed head of a film studio. Rogen recites that line in the first episode of the Apple TV+ comedy, out March 26.

YouTube now accounts for almost 12% of all TV viewing, as much as Netflix and Prime Video combined.
The growth of YouTube’s share of overall TV viewing continues to be impressive. Nielsen’s monthly The Gauge report continues to track the success of the platform, and the February edition of that report was released last week. The report found that YouTube set yet another record with its viewership share during the month, and that begs the question of what other streamers can do to catch up — if anything.
Key Details: YouTube now accounts for 11.6% of all TV watched. That number is essentially the same as Netflix and Prime Video combined. A recent survey found that young viewers are finding long-form content through social video platforms. 30-Day Free Trial $8.99+ / month amazon.com

If there's one thing fans have come to expect from The Boys, it's the creators dialing things up another level every season. From the "Herogasm" episode in season 3 to the Deep's deep-sea love life to that Termite scene, the show always pushes the envelope. As we move into the show's fifth and final season, we can only expect things to get bloodier and more vulgar.
The upcoming fifth and final season, set to premiere sometime in 2026, will undoubtedly pull out all the stops to be the biggest, wildest season yet. But don't take it from me. Star Jack Quaid recently weighed in on the show's final season. Quaid has been heavily involved from the very first scene. If he says it's bigger and better, we believe him.
“A lot more blood. The streak continues, of course. It’s been really cool to play Hughie this season; the events of last...

Two things can be true at the same time: Like that doing press for James Griffiths’ “The Ballad of Wallis Island” has proven to be the “easiest thing” for star Carey Mulligan and that she might also have gotten a little close to crashing her car while doing exactly that. In the spirit of multitasking, Mulligan conducted her most recent interview with IndieWire while driving.
“Oh, I love the boys so much and I am so, sorry, I’m driving, so I’m trying not to crash,” Mulligan said. “They’re just my favorites, my favorite people, so I’m like, ‘Yes, let’s fucking do it. Let’s do it. Let’s go for it.’ It’s been so fun. It’s the easiest thing to do press for.”

Fans got an early glimpse at The Boys Season 5 today, courtesy of Antony Starr. As filming gets underway in Toronto, the actor took to Instagram to share an image of himself in full Homelander regalia on what appears to be a sound stage set.
"Greetings and peace from season 5," Starr wrote. The carousel post was complimented by a lengthy caption offering insights into the shoot, and additional content from the previous season. A surprise delivery of unreleased concept art for a scrapped sidekick, "Homeboy," in full costume was included, with Starr noting the artwork was "Homie's fav design" and claiming he laughed harder at the outfit "than anything in this show." Another image confirms Homelander's father role will continue getting screentime, showcasing Starr posing with Cameron Crovetti, who plays his on-screen son, Ryan, and promises there's still time for a Homeboy reveal. Eric Kripke created the paranormal drama series Supernatural, which starred Jared Padalecki in the role of Sam Winchester. The series ran for fifteen seasons and earned Padalecki plenty of fanfare. As a result, it might surprise viewers to learn that Padalecki almost missed out on the role because of one decision from Kripke.

A report from Ampere Analysis shows that customers are using streaming service recommendations more often than previously.
Every single streaming service on the market knows the value of offering good recommendations to customers on what to watch next. Services that can keep viewers engaged with new shows and movies beyond the titles that initially bring users to the site have a much better chance of keeping those customers in the long term, and are constantly working on improving their recommendation algorithms. Those efforts may be having an effect; a new report from Ampere Analysis shows that viewers are now using streaming service recommendations to find a new title more often than they rely on word-of-mouth from family, friends, and social media.
Key Details: More than a quarter of customers said streaming recommendations were their top source for new content picks. Younger viewers are even more willing to trust recommendation algorithms.

“Meet Nathan Caine. He can’t feel pain.” As far as poster taglines go, that is an all-timer: neatly and succinctly boiling down a zany high concept into seven simple words. For yes, Nathan Caine (Jack Quaid) has congenital insensitivity to pain, a condition that comes in very handy when he inadvertently finds himself in an action-comedy film. In its outlandish premise tailor-made for wacky genre mishaps, it shares some ingredients with the nutty 2006 Jason Statham flick Crank — even if its execution is not quite as bold. (No falling out of a helicopter and surviving here.)
Novocaine’s Nathan is not dissimilar from Jack Quaid’s most famous role thus far, Hughie in The Boys: a bumbling, nerdy everyman, reluctantly thrust into a tough-guy world. When we meet him, he’s a kind-hearted credit union assistant manager, who mostly spends his spare time playing video games with the gamertag...

The ongoing debate over whether The Bear should be considered a comedy has even reached the crossword pages of The New York Times.

Spoiler alert: The answer: "Tvdramas"
Keen-eyed puzzle solvers were quick to note the category (mis)classification.
"I do need to point out that every single genre-specific award The Bear has won — Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice, even the NAACP Image Award — has been an award for comedy, not Tvdrama," wrote JGinDC in the forum posts for the crossword, which appeared in Monday's New York Times.
Added Austin, "I think most would agree that it’s been one of the most egregious cases of 'category fraud' in recent memory. The show belongs in Drama, not Comedy. Kudos to the constructor for calling them out!"

The Surrender
Director Julia Max's début feature, The Surrender, revolves around Megan's (Colby Minifie) tense relationship with her mother Barbara (Kate Burton). When her terminally ill father passes away, Barbara invites a stranger into the family home to resurrect the family patriarch, which only complicates mother and daughter's attempts to resolve their difficult past.
Max's previous credits include her debut short film, The Colonies (2015), a science-fiction premise with a reality television spin, and the horror, Pieces Of Me (2020), about a starlet who discovers a way to fulfil her dreams of fame and fortune. Minifie has starred in The Boys (2019-present), Fear The Walking Dead (2015-2023) and Charlie Kaufman's psychological thriller I'm Thinking Of Ending Things (2020).
Speaking with Eye For Film, Max and Minifie discussed The Surrender's personal roots, the unreliability of memory and how cinema can make us feel less alone.

As shooting for the fifth and final season of Prime Video's The Boys continues, Antony Starr has shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set to Instagram along with two throwback snaps from the previous season and some unused concept art.
Starr is suited-up as Homelander in the set photo, and it doesn't look like there's been any major alterations to his costume. There was speculation that the leader of The Seven might don a new outfit for this final season after he took a step closer to the White House in the season 4 finale.
The actor also revealed some artwork for Ryan's (Cameron Crovetii) "Homeboy" costume, which never actually made the cut. Ryan appeared to fully give himself over to the "dark side" after killing Grace Mallory (Laila Robins) in the finale, so perhaps we'll see him suit-up alongside his father at some point in season 5.

While Netflix had been a pioneer in the streaming space, coming in with shows like House of Cards, Ozark, Stranger Things, and Orange is the New Black, there was a time when the streaming giant faced tough competition in the arena that it had created. One show, specifically waiting on Prime Video, really gave the platform a run for its money.

Having now completed a full week in theaters, the action comedy film Novocaine is slowly inching towards box office success. While the marketplace isn’t exactly conducive towards original films these days — this was made evident last week, with no movie cracking the $10 million mark — Novocaine’s controlled budget could prove to be the pivotal difference between success and failure. This weekend, the film recovered its reported $18 million production budget, effectively making it a solid investment for Paramount. The studio is coming off the massive success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, although the scrappy Novocaine was never expected to be as huge a success.
With $15 million domestically and another $5.3 million from overseas markets, Novocaine has now generated a cumulative global total of $21 million. The movie’s international roll-out is still in its early stages, which means that it has a chance of earning more in the coming weeks. Novocaine features...

Few shows in the history of television can claim to be as successful as "NCIS." The show itself was a spin-off of sorts from "Jag," but has gone on to become a monster in its own right. The flagship series has lasted over 20 seasons, but has also launched several very successful spin-offs and become a broadcast TV juggernaut. When something like this lasts so long, actors tend to come and go. Such was the case with Jennifer Esposito, who had a relatively small but beloved part to play in the show's history.
Esposito entered "NCIS" season 14 as Alex Quinn and stayed for just one season. Come time for season 15, the actress had moved onto other projects and CBS was pressing on without her. So, why did Esposito leave "NCIS," exactly? At the time, there was speculation that it had to do with her health.

Jensen Ackles was not sold on the finale of Supernatural when he first read it. It must be noted that Supernatural came to an end after 15 seasons, with Jared Padalecki and Ackles playing their respective characters for well over a decade. Dean Winchester famously died in the episode, apparently for good, given that Sam Winchester had a full life after him.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he revealed what he exactly felt about the finale, and how he eventually came around to saying goodbye to the show.

Once again, Netflix is refreshing its catalog, preparing for new releases to enter the platform. While the arrival of new titles is exciting, it can be disappointing for viewers who may not have had the opportunity to catch a favorite film or one that they haven't had the chance to see. Consider this a friendly reminder to queue up that watchlist with these films before they disappear.
With all sorts of genres ranging from children and family to horror and comedy, these films demand a viewing before they're removed from Netflix. Fortunately, not every release is leaving right as the month of April dawns, but that doesn't mean checking out the film should be delayed. For movie lovers who haven't watched a lot in March and are looking to stack their Letterboxd diaries, these are the films to watch out for.

There are several scenes in Supernatural throughout its fifteen-season run that make for a pretty whacky watch. There is one scene from Season 5 of the show that is something right out of an SNL sketch, but it just freaking works.
Part of it is because it was originally meant for Sam, but Jared Padalecki, being as strict as he is with character continuity, focused on having Dean do it, which worked out great in the end.
Sam and Dean Winchester || Credit: The CW
The episode in question sees Dean and Sam check themselves into a mental hospital, in hopes of catching a demon that has been making the patients his victim. His leads to some hilarious scenes when Dean and Sam need to improvise to not get caught, one of which is the crowning hilarious moment of the season.

Blue Bloods always lived and died by its cast. The show was predicated on the bond between the various members of the Reagan family, so it makes sense that the connection between the actors was going to be crucial to selling this overriding theme to fans. Now that the show is over, though, Blue Bloods fans will have to undergo the bittersweet process of seeing their favorite actors make jumps to different shows.
Will Hochman is the first Blue Bloods star to do so. The actor, who played Joe Hill on Blue Bloods, has been cast in the prequel of the acclaimed superhero show The Boys. Oppenheimer actor Jack Quaid recalls the surprising complement he got from Christopher Nolan, despite his limited role. Hitting theaters in 2023, Nolan's World War II historical epic about J. Robert Oppenheimer's creation of the first atomic bomb was a massive hit both critically and commercially, with Cillian Murphy playing the titular theoretical physicist. Oppenheimer features a star-studded cast to bring its abundance of historical figures to life, with Quaid, who is well known for starring in The Boys and a new action comedy called Novocaine (2024), playing a small role as real-life scientist Richard Feynman.
In a recent interview with Men's Health, Quaid looks back on his time filming Oppenheimer, revealing that Nolan gave him a unique complement for his bongo-playing performance during a scene set at Christmas. Quaid features sparingly in the scene in question, but the director still took the time to tell the actor that he was "impressed.
