  • I know there are some flaws in the story but you have to accept that this kind of series is never made in Indian shows. Try to watch this rather then nonsense tv shows! Bollywood need this right now!
  • Warning: Spoilers
Contrary to the initial buzz, Asur is a tepid series. It attempts to couple mythology with the crime genre which does pique one's curiosity in the initial episodes. Sadly, it fails to be an engaging series with archetypal, one-note characters. A reticent hacker who always wears a black hoodie, a software engineer who can hack into government database with ease (there is actually code from GeeksForGeeks in one of the episodes) and the extremely intelligent anti-social villain. The template characters go on and on.

What hits the series most hard is its writing. The formulaic nature of writing makes it so predictable that it certainly doesn't go near to the thrill and suspense that a detective/crime series should. For instance, the main characters parting because of ethical differences. It has many unwarranted plotlines. Nusrat and Nikhil's past is one of them. Naina conveniently being a cybersecurity expert because it'll be required in the story later. The teacher-prodigy dynamic between Dhananjay and Nikhil is also a motif which was used but was underdeveloped. There is a major opening left for the next season but that'd been way better if the first season was good enough.

In a nutshell, Asur felt unoriginal and banal. It wasn't able to incite intrigue and thrill. The series fired in the right direction but missed the aim horribly.
  • If this show had a budget like Hollywood, this could have been one of the best thriller series of all time. The plot is unbelievably good! It has the ability to force you to binge watch. The actors have done a great job, the director in his budget did more than what he could have i guess. What i feel is that we are so used to of watching Hollywood and Netflix that we expect the same kind of screenplay which was not upto the mark, not the entire thing but the transition of scenes, the finer details like the coding part. But more or less it was worth the wait for 3 long years. Hat's off to the writing team, you guys have done something which will be appreciated not today, not tomorrow, somewhere in future.
  • Desperately waiting for the season two. This first season raised my expectation to watch more and more good content.

What a Amazing sequel it has been, Absolutely Stellar, Arshad Warsi has left no stone unturned to make th4 sequel in par with Season 1

That concept of Kalki avatar in form of a Buddhist Child and DJ doing parallel investigation along with Naina was icing on the cake.

The disastrous incidents that took place in the first season have clearly taken a toll on everyone involved in the hunt for Shubh Joshi. The series begins with Nikhil Nair, who is haunted by his past. After the death of his daughter Riya, he is devastated and blames himself for the loss. On the other hand, Dhananjay Rajpoot AKA DJ, has taken refuge in spirituality to escape from his tormenting past. Meanwhile, the CBI team races against time as the Asur has planned new attacks and has already issued warnings.

    Awesome
The best web series till date. A bit dark though but don't miss this Masterpiece
  • Arshad Warsi you nailed it. It's awesome story and very well directed. Hats off to all the characters, everyone played their part really well.
  • I read some spoiler-free reviews prior to watching the series. After completing it, I realised there are 3 types of people leaving reviews here:-

    1. The SUPER GENIUS ones pointing out where the CBI made mistakes. To these, I would like to say, this is a web series! If the CBI humans are not shown to make mistakes and miss some clues here and there, how would the story even progress further? What do you guys want? A single 10 minute episode in which the super intelligent protagonist solves everything? Why do you even watch thrillers if you want that?

And talking about the camera angles in the murder footage, just leave the director alone guys, there's no need to give 1 star for something like that, you can rather deduct 1 or 2 stars for such plot holes like I have done.

    2. The COOL ONES who only like what Hollywood or foreign web series' throw at there faces.

These people are all fine and happy with the VERY VERY vaguely explained time travel in end game. But have much problem with a little plothole here and there with an Indian series.

These people are complaining about poor acting from the cast. I can assure you, the actors have brought forward the emotions perfectly. The people saying Arshad Warsi's character is lacking expression obviously have no idea of the psychology of people working in this sector. Someone working in the CBI and constantly dealing with murders and crimes would obviously have much more control over their emotions than normal people, so that is not lack of expression but rather a meticulous display of the behaviour of an CBI official.

    3. The ones who actually appreciate that India is now actually making or at least trying to make good web series. Kudos to you people!

Now, talking about the ending, even I didn't like it. But at least give the director a chance to show us what he has in mind! Just wait for season 2 man! Don't be so harsh on the team and give 1 or 2 stars just because you didn't like the ending!

    Thanks!

The story starts with a boy(Shuv Joshi), son of a pundit living in Varanasi who kills his father, who treated him like an Asur regarding his mother's death and 'wrong' time of birth. On the other hand a guy(Nikhil Nayar played by Barun sobti) teaching Forensics in USA dwelling between his family and passion, who constantly starts to recive different GPS locations of different Indian states where dead bodies are found. He had no choice but to join CBI under the same guy(Dhananjay Rajput played by Arshad warsi) for whom he left 10 years back. A Very well crafted story to this point.

From the early 2000s, basically after "True detective" mixing murder with Mythology has become a trend. This show also tried to do that in its own authentic way. Which was genuinely beautiful. Other scenes or plots like, showing chemical reactions that happens during murders, foreshadowing using dialogues, showing the mythological aspects of Asur, playing with moral right and wrong all of these were very well constructed and written.

All of these derails from its majestic journey and crumbles down in the last two episodes where Dhananjay's "Instinct" comes into play. In this sort of shows logic maybe overshadowed by mythology which is Okay but Instinct playing a great role in a crime thriller just reflects the negligence in writing.

A whole lot of things should have been elaborated/explained in this show. Like the mythological connection of the mask, mixing of Shuv with "Aghori", growing of the "Asur" cult and specially the hunt of devil. A rush to finish the show after 5 episodes was very prominent.

Inspite of the well-done cinematography, nicely crafted dark tone in editing and of course brilliant acting by Arsad and Barun like many other shows the ending was horrific.

Overall, Asur started with a Bang but ended sadly.
  • Just finished Asur best web series in Hindi best mix of science and Hindu methodology. Eagerly waiting for part 2 superbly done man love it
  • Warning: Spoilers
Much hyped by showing top rated Indian tv show . Final episode is like one side final of World Cup.climax is like old hindi movies where police reached just in time.
  • Lot of loopholes on entire storyline, random charactors appear and undie importance is given to main characters which does not go as per story line..lot of other series available on OTT which are far better in execution
  • Something different from terror based series and contains glimpse of future technology and mix of mythology made it interesting Really season 2 of most of series disappointed bt this is really worth watching It also gives logical ending to season 2 and still keeping space for season 3 and can be watched with family and also don't have abusive words.psychopath killer with a twisted philosophy deep-seated in Indian mythology is on the loose. Two forensic officers from the CBI are close on heals to catch the serial killer but with a twist of fate, they get caught in a dreadful situation. Must watch.

What have I just finished... I've decided to watch this once all the episodes are out and guess what they did it on a weekend.

I still can't get over it... Who is Kali? When this will end?

Smart writing will keep you wondering what's coming next. I just hope this time makers and publishers don't take too long.

No filth, No cuss words pure content makes this series stand apart.. You can enjoy it with your family.

Spare 7-8 hrs of your life for this series you will not be disappointed.

Last but not the least the acting, cinematography is top notch. You can't find a fault in the entire series it's so perfect.
  • Just binged watched Asur in a day. This is the first time I have ever seen a Web series in a single day. Finally an intelligent show that is at par with western series. Thanks for bringing such an outstanding series.
  • I'm in Asur hangover. The opening & ending background music is haunting. It's stuck in my head. Honestly, it's one of the best shows I've seen thus far. Can't stop raving about the writing, direction and acting.
  • Everything is good about Asur, Be it the writing which kept me hooked and guessing till last. Or the Actors, Director, music. Completely a worth watch. Waiting for season 2.
  • Asur is not only top rated series but it is actually deserve it. No loose point i found in this everything is top
  • Logic is replaced with intuition. Intuition cannot be explained, and so as the murders get solved with a sudden ease, you lose interest. There is a believability to it that makes for engaging viewing. Here, you sort of give up on trying to connect the dots, or even understand more deeply how the murders were concocted. (Intuition in thrillers is often a result of lazy writing.)

Then, there is the convenient use of Indian mythology that has space for both gore and lore. Using mythology to make something sound sexier, edgier almost, is similar if not the same as using Urdu to make damp squib moments sound romantic. (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Kalank) It is quite easy to spot the pointlessness of the exchange. Not going to talk on potholes and mistakes as they are explained aptly in above reviews but one thing for sure, brevity is not one of Asur's priorities.

Asur is going to win all awards this year. Best acting, brilliant direction and with super story line it is the 10/10 rated web series.

I think the core of the story was good where they tried showing that Kalyug onset can be done only using the current technology which has enslaved us. But season 2 tried to show that technology so over the top that it felt like they were somehow Just trying to include all the technological terms they know. Funny how Naina's character is shown as a hacker who can basically hack anything to everything and funny how CBI relied on her everytime they were in need. Is this a joke? Does CBI not their own competent tech team. Naina is shown tapping keyboard keys every now and then doing impossible things in impossible time frames. It was ridiculous after some time. Other than that every character was just struggling to be a part of the show. I really liked how focused season 1 was around protagonist and mythology. Season 2 ruined that. It was all over the place. I guess many will agree with this. Event the ending where DJ shoots Shubh was very unreal.

    Warning: Spoilers
Last 3 episodes were a huge letdown and you realise in the last episode the whole series is just a waste of time.
  • A lot of things just doesn't make sense at all in this tv show. How things are done are always will be questionable. Just not worth watching. I think the ratings are falsely created.
  • After watching the complete season, I would like to describe this show with a few adjectives. SPELLBINDING INTRIGUING THOUGHT-PROVOKING INCREDIBLE MIND-BLOWING

Having watched the show, I can say with a fair degree of confidence that this show is top-notch & world-class. It must be shown to the world and should not be restricted to Indian audiences only. Great work by the creator Gaurav Shukla & writers Gaurav Shukla Niren H Bhatt & Vinay Chhawal

    Ably directed by Oni Sen

Brilliantly performed by Arshad Warsi, Barun Sobti, Ridhi Dogra, Anupria Goenka, Sharib Hashmi, Gaurav Arora & Amey wagh. Watch the show and impressions will be etched in your minds forever.

I can't wait for the second season.
