BADHAI DO writers Suman Adhikari aur Akshat Ghildial ko

BADHAI DO Screen play writer and Director Harshvardhan Kulkarni ko

BADHAI DO Actors Bhumi Pednekar, Rajkumar Rao and all the cast and crew ko

For making such an entertaining and thought provoking film on a marriage of convenience without falling into trap of stereotypes.

Proud that the story is set and shot mostly in small town Dehradun.

There are so many out there living in closet or in denial. I hope this film encourages them to be themselves.

The lead actors in this movie are Rajkumar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar are considered as the best natural actors of bollywood, needs no comment on their acting. They always give their best and are always best. Anotherfemale actor in lead role is Chum Darang from Arunachal Pradesh has acted very well. Though not a very big role but her impact is very strong. The trailer of the movie already revealed that it is about LGBT community...but it is presented in the movie in a very fresh and new way. It has a message for everyone that we should understand and respect the LGBT community. We should understand that this is very natural and should be accepted by our society. This movie is also about "lavender marriage"...where two homosexual people agree to marry each other so that they can live in society peacefully. Overall a very good movie with very strong message for all. The only drawback is that it is stretched a little otherwise its a complete entertainer with so many good comedy timings.
  • This is one of the better groundbreaking LGBTQ movies to come out of India, a country still hobbled by strict cultural mores and taboos. It starts off slowly and with all the hallmarks of a French Farce that discourages the viewer from taking it seriously. However, as it develops, the concept takes shape and the message becomes clearer. Unfortunately, the drama piece becomes overshadowed by weak attempts at comedy which does not translate well, and the overuse of songs and silly noises in the soundtrack proves distracting. The on-screen relationships do not come across as real, but this is to avoid censorship one would imagine. The movie is well acted and for the most part, the characters are believable. Overall, it is entertaining and has just the right amount of pathos towards the end.
  • Humourous film which tackles issues like toxic masculinity, oppressive nature of middle class indian families, ignorance of society towards LGBT issues. Talks about the adoption and so many other things.

Actors are brilliant. That one scene between Rajkumar and Sheeba will melt your heart.

And there's one special cameo, for which you should definitely watch this film.
  • This young cop ( Rajkummar) is gay but keeps it under wraps because he doesn't know how to tell his family. (Under a normal casting this role would have gone to Ayushmann but that is not an issue). The young lady ( Bhumi) is a lesbian and has also kept it a secret from her folks. Both belong to a middle class orthodox family of heartland India and both are under pressure to get married because they are 30 plus years. Both meet and on an impulse they decide to solve their problem by getting married to each other to keep the family off their backs. They don't realise that their problems have just begun. As they settle down he gets his boyfriend home and she gets her girlfriend home and then the quarrels start. Also since Bhumi does not conceive even after an year, Rajkummar's family members start their pressure tactics. This leads to a number of embarrassing situations for the odd couple.

The movie narrative moves on a fairly good pace and does not have many scenes eliciting laughs but the realistic acting of both Rajkummar and Bhumi makes things interesting. Later the story deals with the serious aspects of a lavender marriage and does offer a solution in the end.

Director Harshavardhan Kulkari has made a loveable and convincing movie tackling an unconventional story idea. Both Rajkummar and Bhumi have acted admirably. Worthy of appreciation are the realistic expressions they have given in the scenes. Good support comes from Seema Pahwa and Sheeba Chaddha.
  • This is a wonder of a movie. It's almost laugh a minute funny feel good film. It's what "Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdaan" wanted to be but utterly failed. This will put a smile on your face for a long time. The emotional scenes will leave a lump in your throat and that's a testament to the writing, direction and acting. The thought that's gone into every aspect of this film is just incredible. Hats off to the makers!

    Warning: Spoilers
It's good acting by the actors. The length of the movie was a bit let down and the movie was moving at a sluggish pace. But story was good and songs were good. The title of the movie could have been different , there was no need to ride on the success of a different story, if this movie is not a sequel to Badhaai Ho. The movie tried to highlight two issues at hand here - How the LGBTQ community is unable to express their partners to their family members and relatives which is a major issue in our society. The social fabric is deep rooted with taboos and lack of acceptance of any change.

Secondly, the issue of adoption by LGBT community, what if they want to adopt kids?? Our current Indian laws don't permit adoption by LGBT community. A different topic to delve on and good acting by the actors. The highlights of the movie was the climax - How Rajkumar Rao asks his relatives " Is this a disease that needs to be treated "? And the baraat of a gay marriage. Some scenes in the movie were dealt with very subtly and deftly.
  • This is an absolutely amazing movie. Very well-paced, well-acted and well-executed movie. Character development and acting is just top-notch. Incredibly mature handling of such a difficult topic. Watch in the theatre, you won't be disappointed. The ones giving 2's and 3's are either homophobes or aren't able to appreciate good cinema. Please throng the theatre in droves, this movie and the entire cast deserve nothing but love and appreciation.

    Warning: Spoilers
Acting, story was good but little bit lengthy.

Story was good. It highlights taboo topic which is a good step.

I dont know why people are giving 1 star it deserves at least 4 or 5 star.

What a film! Go witness the magic yourself. I haven't seen a film like this since long. Everything was perfect about this film. Great performances, superlative writing, brilliant direction. You can feel what characters are feelin in the film. Kudos to the team for making such an important film. All the best.
  • Just, this movie is the real face of Lgvtq struggle. We want such movie more from Indian film industry so that people need to knowing. The right that makes us human is the right to love. To criminalize the expression of that right is cruel and inhumane."
  • Skip the political and just enjoy the family dynamics of the 2 leads. Family pressure to marry can be overbearing but that is the best part of this movie. Just sit back and enjoy. I could give out a small spoiler alert like a Hollywood ending but that's all I'll offer.
  • Hero is attracted to men. Heroine is fascinated by women. Both enter into a marriage of convenience. Trouble starts brewing when their families start pressuring them to have a kid. #BadhaaiDo has good performances by everyone, especially the supporting cast. We also need to appreciate the fact that a mainstream bollywood film has dealt with a nonconformist subject, in a mature manner. But something seems to be missing. Running time needs to be reduced by 20 minutes. Chum Darang makes a confident debut. Rating 2.5/5.
  • The subject is sensitive and so is the writing. I loved this movie for how it isn't preaching or misrepresenting the community. This movie is about love and acceptance. It is funny yet, will tug on your heartstrings. It is a must watch because it is bold and a game changer. Kudos to the writing, for the courage and for the crew and performances.
  • This movie illustrate a very good concept and it's represent a reality of our social culture. The Storyline of this movie is good but not that much interesting as I expected. Overall good Movie.

Movies like Badhaai Do are what earn respect for the entertainment industry.

How do you take a tough subject and deliver it to the entire family with spadefuls of tasteful humour? This movie is how. As a father, I'm relieved that movies like these are finding the talent, the money and the intent for them to get made.

Thank you to everybody on the movie making team.
  • A great film with a message of the most sensitive concept, Badhaai do is watchable fr it's well written storyline and theme. Rajkumaar Rao is vry impressive in thz role and he does a really good job,Bhumi pednekar also does a really decent job though I personally felt she kind of did not suit playing such a sensitive character nevertheless she also does an excellent job. Overall badhaai do impresses with it's unique storyline In conveying a vry sensitive subject as well as for portraying such a theme, what actually bothers is the slow narrative in some important places which a bit is a setback. Nevertheless I rate it a 7.3/10 Starz.
  • The movie is REALLY GOOD and is totally worth your time. The ending scene would make you cry. Some bunch of homophobes are giving this movie a bad rating. Go watch this.
  • Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao have taken it upon themselves to start mainstream conversation around LGBTQ+ issues. So much so that I expected Ayushmann would play a cameo in the end but I think that would've been a little too much of a fanservice.

If Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga was the pioneer in this area, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan took it forward by leaps and bounds and opened a giant gateway, paving a path for more films to attempt more nuanced discussion on it and that's what Badhaai Do does well.

The trailer made the film appear very gimmicky, formulaic and stagnating, thankfully the film itself was a revelation. It touched upon a range of issues from internalized homophobia to misogyny within the community to biphobia to racism towards north-eastern people to dynamics within homosexual relationships, apart from the family issues that ELKDTAL and SMZS had started the conversation about. The depth it attempts to achieve is pleasantly surprising.

Performances by Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar are phenomenal. They don't slip even for a moment. The direction supports their realistic portrayal by avoiding too much dramatization for comic relief. The climax is Bhumi's career best performance.

However, the screenplay, in an attempt to tick off a lot of checkpoints, has a couple of misses. The film has a heart for the most part and that's appreciable given that the films in this area so far have been solely made with the purpose of starting the conversation, but the songs - while beautiful - very often feel disconnected or don't gel well. The story feels rushed at some points and other points the pace takes a dip.

Regardless, a brilliant attempt to tell a story and take the step forward in the right direction. Hoping this leads to more films with nuanced storytelling.
  • Badhaai Do (2022) : Movie Review -

Our Hindi audience is somewhat becoming accustomed to taboo-breaking films, though not fully. It's been almost a decade now that Bollywood filmmakers have been trying something out of the box and touching on taboo subjects. Ayushmann Khurrana is doing great there, but let's not forget others. Kindly remember that Rajkummar Rao is there too. His "Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga" with Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor broke the silence on lesbian girls' issues, and his gay-driven "Aligarh" starring Manoj Bajpayee left us stunned. "Lavender Marriage" is one such theme that hasn't been attempted before, and now Rajkummar Rao is here to take that responsibility. While most of the taboo-breaking films, actually all the films, end with the acceptance of identity, Badhaai Do begins with it and then goes far ahead. The concept helps a lot because you are not trying to hide the secret from the audience; rather, you get to know it early, right at the beginning, and then start riding with it until you accept the reality. All of the previous films ended with either a marriage or the acceptance of LGBT people, but did any of them ever attempt to show what happens next?

Let's just say a bisexual couple gets married. What about life after marriage? What about their parenthood, which isn't possible for them? No film ever attempted these things, and that's where Badhaai Do scores high marks. The film is about Shardul, a cop and a gay man, who marries a lesbian girl, Suman. They don't reveal their sexual identity to their families and continue living as a decorated couple while they continue their own sexual affairs with their partners. So naturally, after a year or so, the family members start pushing them towards parenthood, and then chaos ensues. The screenplay for Badhaai Ho needed a lot of trimming. The entire thing moves slowly, dumping you into boredom most of the time. Even the comedy isn't as hilarious as you expected it to be. I don't know why, but Rajkummar Rao has made his image in the comedy genre too, so you ask more of him, but humanly, it's not possible every time. Badhaai Do falls into such a genre where even making a fine comedy is a difficult job-ultimately hurting the massy humour. One thing is certain: it's not a film that the masses can enjoy and understand. These topics are still taboo and can't be watched by the family audience. Moreover, it's coming on Valentine's weekend, making it more appealing to couples. Those who belong to the LGBT community can cherish this Valentine's Day special experience forever.

To incorporate the additional metaphor into the character, we see Rajkummar Rao playing a macho guy who has sexy physics. The same thing that Ayushmann Khurrana did in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui because to break the taboos, you need special characters so that more people can relate to it. Honestly, Rajkummar is losing his grip. The same guy who gave outstanding performances in Shahid, CityLights, Trapped, and Newton to raise his bar higher than what we expected is now reducing his own greatness. He looks damn sexy, I must say, and even though the performance is decent, it's not up to his own high standards. On the other hand, Bhumi gets into a challenging zone again after "Saand Ki Aankh." She plays a lesbian girl with conviction and doesn't shy away from the uncompromised characteristics of the role. In the supporting roles, Seema Pahwa and Sheeba Chaddha are fabulous. They leave an impact despite the less screen space and have got a couple of hysterically funny scenes. Chum Darang's accent sounds terrible, but her performance recovers the loss. Loveleen Mishra and Nitesh Pandey make sure you enjoy every gag when they are on screen.

Badhaai Do has too many songs, unnecessarily. The album by Amit Trivedi, Tanishk Bagchi, Ankit Tiwari, and Khamosh Singh has a lot of content for couples, but the normal audience is looking for something else. Nevertheless, for a one-time viewing, it's okay. The dialogues have some humour attached to them, but they don't generate any organic laughs. Harshavardhan Kulkarni's direction in Hunterrr was fascinating because he used all the realistic theories to describe his characters, whereas in Badhaai Do, he uses nothing but multiple cliches. He's not at great fault because we have been through almost everything that can be brought by taboo-breaking films. Now, it's just a matter of humour and storytelling. Otherwise, you are smart enough to predict the story. Overall, Badhaai Do is a gutsy attempt that tries to shatter all the insights of problems faced by the LGBT community, from hiding their own identity to marriage to never-told-before parenthood, but is hurt by its slow pace.

    RATING - 5/10*

This movie is awesome, I really liked it, so much comedy. Perfect entertaining movie. Wo kiya bolta hain paisa wasool movie, to yeh hai paisa wasool movie. Highly recommended.
  • Starts well, runs on Rajkumars shoulders and still doesn't get anywhere. Rao is eye candy and rest is sort of a dragged narrative with no clear intention. In the end, this has too much to say in too little time with too many social - cause actors.
  • Ofcourse i loved the topic cause i belong from LGBTQ+ community.

I liked everyone's acting. Obviously it's difficult to romance with a gender you're not interested in. So hats off to all of them. Fabulously done. There's no vulgar scene shown so audience of any age can watch this. Some of the scenes were so nicely depicted, got very relatable. The ending was more than what i expected, totally inexplicable.

What i didn't like is the humor. If you are going for the humor, you might be disappointed. Badhaai Ho was hell funny in comparison to this. I will be rating 3/10 in humor. Most of the punches were lame and draggy. Even some of scenes became the same, disconnecting the audience from the film.

PS: The script could have been better undoubtedly. A lot more things about how society treats a lgbtq person, what they exactly feel about their love, could have been added. No offense, but I was missing Garjao Rao a lot in this film. If he would have been there, the film must be entertaining as well. Still I'll suggest everyone to watch this film cause it's a very important issue. Great applauds to all the actors acted.
  • That it's nothing more you need to know to watch this masterpiece ................yeah it kind of slow movie but the attachment you feel in this movie is to cherish, for some time you feel the anxious about the problem face by the LGBT community you feel what they face day to day life ..................and conversation between the character is chilling it connects with you like you are the part of the conversation ..........that a big advantage of this film.
  • This movie is overall solid. Characters are genuine, and the cast is really great and made each character moments beautiful. Story is really heart touching never thought. I would see raw and bold story in Bollywood, it is great leap. Music is good, ya should watch this movie give this movie a chance if you're looking for something refreshing.
