Popular Turkish comedy writer and performer Şahan Gökbakar ("Dikkat sahan cikabilir") recruits his younger brother Togan Gökbakar ("Gen") to direct the big screen début of his titular comedy character in this crude farce that was the year's box office number one in Turkey and has spawned two equally successful sequels.
Recep İvedik (Şahan Gökbakar) is a fat, aggressive, unibrowed slob who is put up in a classy Antalya hotel as reward for returning the owners lost wallet and proceeds to reek havoc with his uncouth ways as he tries to win over his childhood sweetheart Sibel (Fatma Toptas) in the set-up to this rather uninspired class-clash comedy.
Şahan Gökbakar creates an inspired burlesque exaggeration of the modern Turkish peasantry at large in the city while superb support comes from the likes of Fatma Toptas. Tulug Cizgen and Hakan Bilgin as the westernised "White Turks" whose mores and manners he violently collides with to give the film its comic edge.
The film-makers quickly eschew any deep social-commentary on the class-clash at the heart of their film in favour of broad farce and crude behaviour that sets the comedy creation among the likes of Mr. Bean or Borat except that here they are driven by a misguided romantic endeavour that requires us to actually empathise with this boorish buffoon.

I really cant believe why these few people write such terrible reviews about this movie.
First of all, you have to be Turkish /familiar with the Turkish culture and values. If you are not known with these then this movie might look like a 'farting and shouting - movie'.
I believe that the Actor and director reflected some Turkish behavior in this movie very good and its just a very funny movie.
I've seen of hundreds of movies including a bunch of Turkish movies but there hasn't been a single movie that made my laugh my *** off as much as this movie.
Just see for yourself en don't stop yourself because of the few bitter people who write reviews who don't have a sense of humor.

This movie consists of a bunch of fart jokes, has no real comedy value or real acting. Sahan Gokbakar is somewhat a good comedian on TV, but as Recep Ivedik; he offers nothing to his audience. Anyone would get the same reaction he did, if they wore the same clothes and make up and said the same stuff. He does not bring anything to the role. There is no acting. There's basically a man; who is rude, filthy, smelly, horny and stupid. There's no depth to the character at all. And that man is supposed to be funny because he has huge eyebrows and a very hairy back? There is no plot either. The movie just jumps from scene to scene. From joke to joke. And the movie ends really abruptly. I can recommend this movie for people who has IQ below 70.
İ really gave the film 3 stars. Not because it deserved it but people took some time for it. I failed to understand people pay a good deal of money to watch this thing on a theater. There are free shows in some animal channels focusing on furry animals, acting the same mating behaviors. Well, the film may be funny because of its irrational anti hero but that popularşty, that idol.Come on, the guy is on the commercials now.I guess there is a mass delusion around. Is this what reflects us? I can say that just because of our own mentality, we will never reach up to some certain points. This field is one of them. And there are many fans of that furry animal i know.I feel pity for those who pay to this film while having a girlfriend next to them.
First off, there's one point that I'd like to make is that what did you the watchers expect from this film ?? You expected a top comedy ? You honestly thought that this would be the funniest Turkish comedy ever ? If you go to see this flick with huge hopes and have huge expectations, then this film might disappoint you hugely. If you expect the best Turkish comedy, your hopes might get shattered. Keep this in mind when going to see this film.
As we know the funny character from previous TV shows, the pranks and the funny dialogs were predictable. Nothing new of course what we see! Hence I don't understand why the viewers moan about this comedy!! They should have known better if you ask me. However, I can say that if you like the comedy character Recep Ivedik you will like this film as well. Worth seeing, really it is, honest I think so. This film's served its purpose in my opinion. Some of the scenes are hilarious, I laughed really hard at some gags, couldn't stop laughing at some absurd dialogs, too. It's not that you nearly die of laughter or laugh out loud all the way through out. But this comedy film has a lot of giggle moments. OK, even though it's got not a clever story-line, and the plot might be dull but like most comedies I was entertained but not to the point of laughing out loud , but it was still entertaining for me. Unfortunately, towards the end, everything is done badly, like in Turkish comedies nowadays!
Sahan Gokbakar (Recep Ivedik) is superb in the film. To tell the truth I was glad that the character Recep Ivedik played the role as we know him from his TV shows. Nothing new was added to the role which I found cool. Other than that, the bellboy Komi and the lorry driver are really annoying, but Sahan Gokbakar (Recep Ivedik) and Tulug Cizgen (Sibel's mother) save the film.
To sum up, I can say that that Sahan Gokbakar fans would like this, however as with most comedy films which stem from an hour TV show, you do get a lot of problems, you can tell that it has been overstretched and gags that look good on TV don't always have the same effect on the big screen. As above-mentioned, it's not the best Turkish comedy flick in the world but then again it really doesn't deserve all the bad comments. It might not be great for some viewers but to say that this film was really p*** poor, and try to trash this funny film is not fair. I don't think much of the critics anyway but give this film a chance.
