Miya Cech has raised the fans’ curiosity after joining Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s Season 2 as Toph Beifong. The renowned earthbender was one of the key characters from the Nickelodeon animated show. But despite Toph’s worldwide popularity, she has also got her fair share of haters who have some significant complaints regarding the character.

Toph Beifong or The Blind Bandit was initially conceived as a 16-year-old muscular boy. However, the show’s head writer Aaron Ehasz suggested a creative idea and asserted that they make the character a little girl, who has the power to take down some of the greatest earthbenders. While the idea was revolutionary and the character was a fan-favorite initially, she slowly lost her appeal to most fans as the show progressed.

Netflix’s live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is back in production for Season 2, with the streamer revealing that Miya Cech has been cast as the fan-favorite character Toph.
In a clip released as part of Netflix’s annual Geeked Week fan event, Toph’s feet are seen in closeup before she stomps down and demonstrates her earthbending.
The 17-year-old Cech is likely best known to audiences as the younger version of Ali Wong’s character in the Netflix romantic comedy “Always Be My Maybe,” released in 2019. Funnily enough, she also played a younger version of Ali Wong’s character in an episode of the Netflix series “Beef.” She also starred in Nickelodeon’s short-lived series “The Astronauts” and had a supporting role in last year’s coming-of-age comedy “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.”
Toph was first introduced in Book 2 of the original “Last Airbender” animated series.

A reboot of the classic 1980s TV series of the same name, 2021's well-cast Highway to Heaven is a Lifetime Original movie about Angela, an angel who comes to Earth to help people. Angela is aided in her quest by the school’s principal, Bruce, but her unexplained angelic presence also invites suspicion.
The original Highway to Heaven series was created in 1984 by Michael Landon, who also played the angel. The show saw Landon’s angel John Smith travel across the country with retired police officer Mark Gordon (Victor French), assuming different jobs and helping troubled souls overcome their problems. "The Simpsons" was not the first TV sitcom to parody pop culture, but it may have been the most ambitious one when it originally premiered. Some of its best episodes remake classic films with "Simpsons" characters. "Rosebud" recasts "Citizen Kane" with local wealthy despot Mr. Burns. "Bart of Darkness" puts child hellraiser Bart Simpson into Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window." Then there's the fan-favorite "Treehouse of Horror" episodes, which riff on classic horror films and television. A generation of young fans were given the "Simpsons" version of the canon before they even knew the source material existed. But that was not such a bad thing. At its best, "The Simpsons" is judicious in its pick of source material, and exacting in its detail. Characters in the show rarely just say, "This reminds me of a popular movie!" There's always a recreated "camera angle," a guest star or a deep cut...

Following on “Medici: Masters of Florence,” with Dustin Hoffman and Richard Madden, and “Leonardo,” starring Aidan Turner, Italy’s Lux Vide is teaming with ex-Hasbro chief content officer Stephen J. Davis (“Transformers”) to produce what may be its most ambitious production yet: “The Rising.” The English-language historical drama series focuses on what it described as the “human, secular story” of Jesus Christ. The creative team will shortly begin pitching potential U.S. partners.
Executive producer of NBC’s “The Blacklist” and creator and showrunner of HBO’s “Carnivàle,” Daniel Knauf is attached as “The Rising’s” showrunner.
Lux Vide CEO Luca Bernabei and Davis serve as the series’ producers.
“The Rising” will be directed by Italy’s Jan Michelini, who broke through directing episodes of “Medici: Masters of Florence.” Its composer is Carlos Rafael Rivera, best known for writing the score of Netflix hit “The Queen’s Gambit,” and an...

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced the television nominations for the 2020 DGA Awards on Monday, honoring “Ted Lasso,” “WandaVision,” and “The Queen’s Gambit” as examples of some of the finest directorial work that the medium has to offer.
Both Comedy and Drama categories saw complete turnover in nominees from 2019, with none of the series honored last year airing episodes during the window of eligibility in 2020. Therefore the celebration is guaranteed to get an injection of fresh blood, a welcome development with any awards body.
Curiously, the wide open field allowed for some surprising series to garner their first ever DGA nominations, including AMC’s “Better Call Saul” and Disney+’s “The Mandalorian.”
Also announced today were the DGA Award nominations for Documentary, including nods for “Boys State” and “The Truffle Hunters.”

Aside from the members of the Midnight Society, perhaps the most prolific recurring character in the ’90s run of Are You Afraid of the Dark? was the enigmatic magician Sardo, so fans of the original series may be pleased to see a new take on the Magic Mansion owner featuring prominently in the official trailer for the second season of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival, titled Curse of the Shadows, which will kick off its six-episode season on Friday, February 12th on Nickelodeon.
Press Release: Hollywood, Calif.--Jan. 8, 2021--Nickelodeon has revealed the trailer for the long-awaited season two debut of Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Curse of the Shadows, the beloved horror anthology series based on the ‘90s kids’ cult classic. Produced by Ace Entertainment, the six-part limited series will premiere on Friday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. (Et/Pt) on Nickelodeon, with new episodes airing every Friday night.

The Midnight Society’s campfire was restoked—figuratively and literally—for the 2019 Halloween season by Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid of the Dark? three-episode miniseries, which enticed audiences old and new for more chilling exploits from a new generation of the classic kid coterie of scare-chasers. Thus, the network subsequently greenlit Season 2, this time for six episodes, which begin their weekly run in February.
Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Curse of the Shadows is the title of Season 2, indicating that the series will again eschew its classic single-episode story format to utilize the entirety of a season to tell one epic story, having moved on from the 2019 miniseries storyline centered on demented ringmaster Mr. Tophat and his Carnival of Doom. Moreover, we’re already getting an all-new Midnight Society; a lineup tasked with pursuing a mysterious creature called the Shadowman.

One of my favorite viewing experiences this year was finally catching up on Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival, and while I'm bummed that the characters from the first season won't be returning, I'm still thrilled to see whatever the new Midnight Society cooks up next around the campfire.
With the new season of Are You Afraid of the Dark? premiering sometime in 2021, Nickelodeon is celebrating the New Year a bit early with their first teaser video for the new season that reveals its official title: Curse of the Shadows.
While the first season of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival (titled Carnival of Doom) featured three episodes, the new season will comprise six episodes.
You can check out the new trailer below (from Nickelodeon's official Twitter account), and we also have an excerpt from the official press release for the new season that will...

At a time when climate change is ravaging Earth and real-life interest in space organizations from NASA to SpaceX has been renewed, there is no shortage of television shows delivering interesting and informative takes on such travel. But while series such as Disney Plus’ “The Right Stuff” goes for the nostalgia play and Netflix’s “Away” contemplates the sacrifice made to leave family behind, it is Nickelodeon’s “The Astronauts” that delivers the truly unique picture of unequipped, untrained children accidentally being launched into space, now thrust together as a makeshift team to survive.
“We are being presented — especially in 2020 with all that’s happened — with portraying a future as a hopeful thing. I think people are really hungry for that — ‘if we all set aside our differences and work together toward a common goal, then we have a very bright and hopeful future,'” “The Astronauts” showrunner Daniel Knauf tells Variety.

Since its inception in 1979, Nickelodeon has been forward thinking with its programming. Yet it took over 41 years for the network to go after the final frontier, a live action space travel show for kids. To make an ambitious show like that happen, they needed the right co-pilot, landing the director of Apollo 13, Ron Howard.
Howard serves as executive producer for The Astronauts, a new live-action kids series coming to Nickelodeon on Nov. 13. It’s the first kids series to come from Howard and Brian Grazer’s production company, Imagine Entertainment, which launched a new division in 2019 called Imagine Kids+Family, headed up by Stephanie Sperber. In early meetings between the network and production company, the prospect of doing a space show for kids was exciting to both parties.

Willow Ufgood is back!
In a surprise announcement from Disney+ it was revealed that Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) alongside Jon Kasdan would be helming a new series expanding on the lore of the classic movie.
According to the streamer the yet unnamed Disney+ project “takes place years after the events of the original Willow film. It introduces all-new characters to the enchanted realm of fairy queens and two-headed Eborsisk monsters, and welcomes back its namesake hero, Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davies).”
The announcement also included this intriguing quote from original Willow director Ron Howard who will return alongside leading man Warwick Davis to executive produce the series, “This isn’t a nostalgic throw-back, it’s a creative lean-forward and it’s a blast to be a part of it all.”
So when we sat down with Howard recently to chat about Nickelodeon’s The Astronauts we had to ask him what it all meant.
