Synopsis

  • The Kents are painting their new home. Clark hears a bridge collapsing in China. As Superman, he flies there and catches the bridge, saving a fisherman underneath.

Later, the Kents are eating together at breakfast, and Clark is talking about his super-hearing. He tells Jordan that he has to be careful not to draw attention to their family. Lois tells her sons that they have to be mindful of their actions so they don't reveal Clark's secret identity, and Clark tells them that he wants a normal life for the two of them and he can't always be there for them.

Kyle drives Lana to the Smallville clinic. When he wonders if they should wait inside, she says that it only feels that she's the only one worried about it although it's been a year. Kyle says that she isn't the only one, but Lana isn't convinced.

Sarah gets into the car with them and says that what happened is between her and Dr. Lawrence. She says that she saw the doctor like they asked and just wants to go, and Kyle drives away.

Later at school, Jordan points out that she wasn't in first-period class and asks if everything is okay. Sarah says that it was just some "dumb family drama", and Jordan starts to ask if they can hang out after school. She sees Sean down the hall and interrupts Jordan, saying that she'll talk to him later. Jonathan comes up to Jordan and jokingly congratulates him on failing to ask Sarah out.

At the Kent barn, Clark is checking an oil leak on the tractor. He stops and listens to the world with his super-hearing. He hears Sean and his friends picking on Jordan at the school, Sean jealous that Jordan is "flirting" with his girlfriend. Jonathan comes over and tells Sean to get away from Jordan. Sean refuses, and Jordan clenches his fist. Before he can hit Sean, Clark arrives and interrupts.

Sean walks off and Clark tells his sons that he just decided to come by. Jordan accuses his father of spying on them. Clark drives them back to the farm, and says that he was just making sure they were okay. He insists that he isn't listening on them all the time, but Jordan accuses him of lying to him and goes into the house with Jonathan.

That night, Clark and Lois have dinner alone and talk about Lois' first day at her new job. They then talk about the first time Clark listened in on Lois, and she says that he almost lost her then. Clark asks how he can make things right with the boys, and Lois tells him to make them the same promise he made her.

The next morning, Clark prepares to take his sons to school and promises that he won't listen in on them again. He asks if they're good, and Jonathan casually says that they are while Jordan just shrugs his shoulders.

At the Gazette, Chrissy asks Lois if she wants to interview the key speaker at the Harvest Festival. When Lois hesitates, Chrissy tells her that not every article they do will change the world. Sharon Powell come in and asks which of them was writing the story on New Carthage. Lois says that she was, and Sharon introduces herself and says that it has to do with Morgan, and she's hoping Lois can help her nail Morgan.

Sharon tells Lois and Chrissy that her son Derek was a subject at the Edge Facility in New Carthage. He worked there six months and made good money, and then Morgan offered him an unclear "opportunity of the lifetime". Sharon's son signed NDA, but sent her a message saying that he loved her but the opportunity wasn't what he thought it was.

Across the street, one of Morgan's men secretly takes a photo of Sharon with Lois.

Jordan arrives at school and, in the stairwell, overhears Sarah telling Sean that she's breaking up with him. He walks off, angry, and one of Sean's friends "accidentally" bumps into Jordan and tells him to stay in his lane.

Later, the cheer squad is rehearsing a routine. Lana is the coach, and calls out Sarah for being distracted. Sarah tells Lana that she quit and walks out of the gym.

On the football field, Jordan joins the football team. Jonathan comes over and asks Jordan what he's doing. Jordan says that he's trying out for the team, and he'll go easy with his powers. Jonathan warns him that it goes against what their father told him, and points out that Jordan hates sports. Jordan says that he's pushing back against the bullies, and Coach Gaines tells Jordan to do some reps.

Jordan goes in and Jonathan shoves his way past the other players with his super-strength, much to everyone's surprise. Jordan comes back to the sidelines, and Gaines complains that Jonathan didn't tell him about Jordan and sends him to do laps.

After school, Jonathan and Jordan meet Sarah at the diner. Sarah has heard about Jordan's tryout, and Jordan and Jonathan both say that Jordan has been practicing in the backyard. Jordan brings up Sarah breaking up with Sean, and she says that it was long overdue. As she asks them if they just wanted to change everything, Lana comes in and asks to talk to Sarah privately.

Sarah tells her mother that she can say anything in front of the Kents, and Sarah tells Lana that she's fine and not just going to kill herself. She asks Lana to back off, and says that their family is a dumpster fire. Lana tells her that it's enough and they're going, and Sarah angrily grabs her stuff and leaves.

Clark comes in as Lana and Sarah leave. Sitting down with his sons, Clark says that Lois is working late so it's just them. Jordan talks up Jonathan's position on the team, and Clark doesn't notice anything unusual.

That night, Lois tells Chrissy that Sharon may have given them their big break. Chrissy suggests that Sharon was half-drunk and selling a conspiracy theory. She's looked into Derek's background and discovered that he has a checkered past. Chrissy suggests that it might be a drug deal gone wrong and there's nothing to tie it to Morgan, and tells Lois that they don't have the sources to run an investigative piece for weeks.

The two women are interrupted when they hear an explosion. They run outside and find Lois' car across the street on fire. Kyle and the other firefighters come to put out the fire, and Lois tells him that Morgan was behind it. She says that they just finished talking to a source about Morgan. Kyle is clearly skeptical and leaves.

Jordan is in his room playing video games. Jonathan comes in, interrupts Jordan, and asks why he lied to Clark. Jordan says that he's just doing what Clark did. When Jordan says that he might continue with football, Jonathan points out that football is his thing. He figures that Jordan is only playing because of his super-strength. Jordan insists that he'd doing nothing wrong, and Jonathan tells him that he has nothing to worry about and leaves.

Lois is out on the porch, and Clark brings her a glass of wine. She says that she made a mistake accusing Morgan, and it feels like everyone in Smallville has their walls up. Lois tells Clark that her gut tells her that something is going on, and Clark tells her to dig deeper and will support whatever decision she makes. He just wants her to be able to live with her own decision.

The next day, Clark gives Lana the paperwork on taking possession of the farm. Lana tells him that it feels like her family is falling apart, and admits that it feels like she's losing Kyle, Sophie, and Sarah. She says that she's heard that Jordan made a big showing at the tryouts.

On the football field, Sean tells Gaines that he wants to scrimmage with Jordan. The two of them slam together, and Jordan slams Sean back. Jordan then apologizes to Sean for kissing Sarah, and offers his hand. Sean takes it and Jordan helps him up, and thanks Jordan as the other players applaud. Jordan notices Clark on the sidelines, watching.

That night at the farmhouse, Clark and Lois talk to Jordan and Jonathan about Jordan being on the football team. Clark admits that taking Jordan to see Jor-El was a mistake, and Jordan tells him that he keeps making mistakes and wishes he wasn't around. After Clark sends Jordan to his room, he sends Jonathan as well.

Clark goes out and breaks firewood with his bare hands. Lois joins her husband and tells Clark that he should work out why Jordan is angry. She then says that three other Edge employees have gone missing as well, and she's going to New Carthage to check out.

Jonathan goes to Jordan's room, asks Jordan if he's glad Clark found out. The older brother points out that Jordan doesn't have to pretend he likes football anymore, and notices Sarah's name on Jordan's phone. He goes downstairs, finds Clark, and tells him that he made a mistake by not telling Clark about the football. Jonathan then suggests that Jordan needs football, is making friends, and is happy for the first time in a long time. Clark warns that Jordan could raise suspicion, and Jonathan says that there's no point in having something special if the person isn't allowed to be special.

Lois drives to the motel where Sharon is staying overs the motel room door is broken open. She goes in and finds the place torn up. Edge's agent comes out of the next room, and the man stops Lois as she tries to run out the way she came. They struggle and Lois grabs a pen from the desk then and jams it into the side of the man's head as they struggle. She triggers a signal device, and Superman flies in and knocks the agent, Subjekt 11 back.

They fight and Subjekt 11's strength is a match for Superman's. 11 beats Superman unconscious. Lois has found Sharon unconscious, and calls to Superman for help as 11 advances on her. Superman wakes up and 11 turns to face him. This time Superman uses his super-breath and super-speed to knock him unconscious. 11 escapes, and Lois tells Superman to get Sharon to the hospital. He speeds her away.

Lana goes to Sarah's room and says that she heard about the break-up, and says that since the last summer she hasn't been sure if she'll lose Sarah. Sarah says that she'll tell Lana when she's okay, and Lana asks why it happened. Her daughter says that she felt trapped by the town and the family, and the only future she saw for herself was a life she didn't want.

Sarah's mother says that she often feels lost, and she was raised to always smile at her neighbor and never let them see the hurt inside. When Sarah says that isn't healthy, Lana agrees and asks her daughter what kind of life would make her happy. Sarah tells her mother that she's still figuring it out, and Lana hugs her daughter and says that she loves her.

The next morning, Clark shows Jordan his high school baseball glove and says that he wanted to try out for the team but Jonathan Sr. wouldn't let him. Eventually, Clark realized he was playing because of a girl, and he asks Jordan to be honest with him and tell him if football is something he really wants.

Jordan says that it's been incredible, and he's sure he can keep his powers under control. Clark says that he can play, but there's one last thing to talk about.

Later at school, Jordan ells Sarah that Clark let him play on the team with a little help from Jonathan. Sarah asks Jordan if she wants him to be at the first game, and she says that she'll be there as a spectator. Clark comes, dressed as an assistant, and says that Gaines gave him and a jacket and everything.

That night at the Gazette, Chrissy apologizes to Lois for not trusting her hunch. Lois tells her that stories that need to be told get missed because there aren't enough reporters looking for them. Chrissy shows her of surveillance footage from a gas station across from the motel with 11 in them, and Lois wonders why someone with superpowers is working for Morgan.

At his car, 11 calls in and says that Superman rescued Sharon. He's told that Larr will take care of it, just as Leslie appears on the highway ahead of him. When 11 stops. Leslie uses her heat vision to kill him. She then calls and says that it's done.
