  • The first drone shot at the start of the film was really bad it destroys the first impression of the film. Hated watching the starting 10 mins then it got better. Its an avg movie but fun to watch.
  • Despite being directed by a woman, this rom-com was written by a man and it is glaringly obvious throughout the movie.

*Positive Points* The actors do a fantastic job. Aditi Rao is excellent as the mentally tortured wife. Dulquer Salmaan is so charming that he manages the admirable feat of making Yaazhan's character tolerable and even likeable at times.

Plus, nice camera work and aesthetics. Vibrant costumes and good music.

    Breaking gender bias
    • Yaazhan takes great pleasure in handling the house, dabbling in gardening and cooking, etc.

    • In one scene, Yaazhan is shown going to a wedding in his wife's dress. He is shown as a secure man who feels no need to resort to male stereotypes to prove his worth as a man.

*Negative Points* This mainly just boils down to how the main lead is portrayed and subsequently the relationship. The movie is hellbent on painting Yaazhan as the ideal husband, and in contrast, Mouna is painted as a superficial and idiotic woman for not appreciating this stifling "love".

    • Yaazhan is constantly talking and never listening. Mouna is never shown to express her opinion on anything, except how sick of Yaazhan's habits she is, which paints her as the bad guy.

    • He is overbearing and intellectually domineering.

    • He is constantly force-feeding her - either actual food or food for thoughts. Yaazhan has an opinion on everything, which he shares without being asked. But he never asks his wife how she feels on the subject.

    • On the subject of food, he is always force-feeding her. Quite literally. For instance, there's a scene where he barges into the shower to feed her cake.

    The ending is a mess.

    • After a relatively brief separation that allows both Yaazhan and Mouna to take some distance and view their relationship with a pair of fresh eyes. They choose to recoil back into essentially the same routine instead of venting their frustrations and acknowledging areas of improvement within their relationship.

    • The movie ends on the very frustrating note that they both decide to make ZERO changes to their very unhealthy and toxic dynamic.
  • The movie opens with Yaazhan (Dulquer Salmaan) and Mauna (Aditi Rao Hydari) sitting at a beach side restaurant, that's hit by a storm immediately after they share a glance of love. It's a brilliant metaphor to set the context of what follows in their relationship. The story of the love triangle is written by famous Tamil lyricist Madhan Karky, and it stars Dulquer Salmaan, Aditi Rao Hydari and Kajal Aggarwal. The film is directed by choreographer-turned-director Brinda and the music is composed by Govind Vasantha.

They soon exchange poetic pick-up lines and get married at the end of the first song. Even before you realise that the first song is over, comes the second, then the third and subsequently many more throughout the movie. We are constantly reminded that the film is reputed choreographer Brinda's directorial debut through song and dance sequences at regular intervals. They are good but just too many.

Coming back to the story, Yaazhan is a happy house husband who loves to cook healthy meals with produce from his backyard garden and is a chatterbox, living life one moment at a time, expressing his true self. Mauna, on the other hand, is an angry young woman who feels her personal boundaries are being violated by her clingy husband. To end this suffocating marriage, Mauna hunts for a "less painful" way to divorce her husband because she believes he is a good guy after all. And how does this happen? Experts would have told her to have a conversation like an adult with Yaazhan, but Mauna has some other idea altogether. She chooses to hire a psychologist Dr. Malarvizhi (Kajal Agarwal) to seduce her "nice husband" and use it as an excuse to walk out from the marriage. At that moment I only wanted to ask her - dear Mauna, why did you devise a divorce strategy that actually pins the blames on him if you genuinely don't want to hurt Yaazhan?

Every character in the film is well-defined, yet the reasoning for their behaviours is still a mystery. For instance, Mauna hates Yaazhan for being clingy and talkative and she is ready to go to any length to divorce him, but she suddenly wants him back when Malarvizhi is half way through her assignment that Mauna herself had requested.

While the answer to why Mauna hates her husband has been clearly established, there aren't enough reasons presented as to why she wants him back. The storyline then gets predictable, with Malarvizhi developing feelings for Yaazhan and the film falls under the typical template of how the two women start fighting over a man. What happens next? Who will Yaazhan choose at the end? You will have to watch the movie to know it.

'Hey Sinamika' aspires to be funny and sensitive while being mediocre at both. For instance, there is a scene where Yaazhan schools a bully during a function, who mocks him for wearing his wife's clothes. Just when you finish saying, "Wow, that was amazing!", a few scenes later Malarvizhi asks Mauna, "Is Yaazhan gay?" as an insulting joke.

Though the screenplay tries to repeatedly make you feel lost, the aesthetic beauty of the shots in the film pull you back to sit through it. The colour palettes used are a treat to the eyes. Kudos to cinematographer Preetha Jayaraman, art directors SS Moorthy and Senthil Raghavan, costume designers Archa Mehta and Khushbu Banerjee for this visual treat.

One of the few best things about the film is the refreshing feminist take on the male protagonist. Despite his flaws, Yaazhan organically helps a woman like Malarvizhi restore faith in men by going from "All men are cheats" to "Not all men".

Honestly, Hey Sinamika is a love story that you may not really love but just like.
  • Useless actors and 80s story. Why make this crap when south india is making so great movies nowadays. Everybody is overacting. Sorry excuse for story.
  • The film suffers from a poor script and subpar execution.

However, the production values of the film are commendable, showcasing a good level of quality.

The cinematography is decent, capturing the visuals adequately.

In terms of performances, Aditi Rao shines with her portrayal, delivering a strong acting performance. Dulkar's performance is passable, while Kajal's performance leaves something to be desired.

The music in the film falls short of expectations, lacking the impact desired. On the other hand, the dance sequences are executed well.

Considering the overall flaws in the film, it would be advisable to skip this particular movie.
  • Everything was literally dragging in this movie. Wasted such talented actors for overconfident director. Everyone must rate and review to save Tamil cinema from such overhyped directors.
  • The ending is not related to the reality. Movie is movie. Bt reality is too much harder than movies. If it was being in real time the guy will choose the 2nd girl.....................................

Director should stick to dance choreography only.... actors overreacted in their roles ...songs dragged the movie ...story could've been trimmed to 2hrs...one time watch.
  • I am appalled by the direction and script . They have amazing cast and pretty much wasted them . How did the director convince Salman for such a disastrous character.

Honestly these are career damaging movies for the actors . Absolutely time waste for the viewer .

I have viewed many flop movies but I am taking time to write comment . That's how bad this movie is made.

I am so angry at Netflix for recommending this movie and wasting my time .

And don't trust those good reviews. Honestly they must be fake or from the movie crew or someone close .

This movie is ranks 1st among the worst movie I have seen off late .

Rating 0/5 . One is also waste for this movie.
  • Good actors, Bad acting.

    Good story, bad execution.

It was really disappointing seeing talented actors resorting to cringey overacting. Too many unnecessary songs and dance which are completely disconnected to the story. The cinematography is generally good, but the action shots are something off a cringe 1920s movie. The director should just stick to dancing.

The one god thing may be the wardrobe department. I now need to go hunting for Kajal's sarees.

Good Movie. Everybody acted well in the movie. The movie had many unwanted songs. BGM in the movie was worst. The move was so interesting and thrilling at 1st half. The movie bored and lagged a lot at 2nd half. Good Movie.
  • It is like a usual couples conflict film but the only difference is that the male & female characters are swapped which makes the plot and there's an injection of a 2nd heroine which takes the film even beyond that difference, that's it, I don't see anything different, it is just a usual film with the same plot and almost same sequences like other films. To some extent, the film even looks like a copy of the Hindi film Ki & Ka as it is also made on the same lines only.
  • I watched it & felt , it would have been better if the Psychologist role was played by any good actor. Inspite of acting experience of more than 12 years, its sad & annoying to see actress like Kajal has not learned acting at all. Aditi Rao acting was very fine & Dulquer also did good role. Storyline & direction are also fine. I think for a director as first movie, this is good work. Lets encourage her hardwork. Songs are good.
  • The film looks decent and refreshing. The whole script isn't anything new, but then the film was quite entertaining to me at least. It's in no way perfect, but then it's a good Rom Com I have seen in recent times.
  • First of all I can understand where most of the negative reviews are coming from, it's the hatred from the babas community.

Objectively speaking the movie is a run of the mill rom com but it's refreshing due to the fact that industry is littered with garbage and any decent movie seems feels like a breath of fresh air. Had a ha moment when I realized at the end of the movie that the director was a female, another reason that movie felt relaxed, simple, down to earth, and genuine.
  • If you need a movie in the background, this is it.

The problem starts from the first scene. It's cringey and the slowmo Scenes were so tacky and artificial. The first half lacked substance but makes it up in second half. But the plot itself is so shabby, dont know how this got passed as a screenplay. It is too silly to be a feature film.

    Like why?

I like DQ movies usually, but lately his movies arent hitting the right notes. It's missing a lot of nuance that movies like Bangalore days and Ok kanmani had. This movie was poorly written. Pass.
  • The film is a one time watch without any expectations. DQ saves the show. A known and predictable rom-com.

The most dissapointing part is that why do you portray a hindu baba bad? What is the need of that part in the film. It seems like it is inserted un neccesarily and that's not funny. It is inappropriate to mock a spiritual person without knowing their background properly and making false statements. Shame on the director and writer. The person you mock has more followers beyond your reach and has inspired many lives. Highly highly disgusting.

You made a normal movie look so bad by inserting that part. Its so disturbing.

Otherwise I had no issues with the story. You spoiled the day.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Not every choreographer can be a movie director like Farah Khan, the film has nothing new to offer ,choreography is badly executed mainly Siragai looks like Deewani Mastani from Bajirao Mastani and Achamillai looks like Meri galli mein from Gully boy which does not go well with the script , director brinda focused more on story telling rather than choreography , the overall output comes to be copy of R. Balki's Ki and Ka. Adding the character of Kajal Aggarwal seems to be unnecessary which makes it a routine tamil love triangle darama, overall movie is one time watch , even if you want save your time and money just watch Ki And Ka which is easily available on Jio.
  • The plot could have worked as a fantasy as one cant relate with the premise - "I am opting for divorce because my spouse is talkative?!?". Even if you relate with it, nothing keeps you engaged in this drama triangle. Not recommended!!
  • Best Rom-Com Film of this year. Matured Decent Drama. DQ, Adithi, Kajal performed extraordinarily well. All the characters in this film really close to the heart. Touching, Entertaining, Interesting. Captain of the Ship Brindha Master stunningly sailed the ship. Good Dance Choreography. Madhan Karky's story, screenplay, dialogues and lyric - grabbed the attention. Govind Vasantha connecting us with his breezy romantic music. Notable Cinematography and Art Work. Big Claps to the entire Team. Carried very fine messages on many portions. I totally enjoyed this movie.

I hope definitely it's a Treat for Lovers and Married Couples!

Will be good in the box office - Will hit the Blockbuster!
  • One unnecessary scene is added where a swamiji claims to do healing. Inner doctoring. There are hundreds of evidences where Christian missionaries performing such fraud healing, but in movies its always a Hindu who is a fraud and rapist. Tired of this propoganda.
  • It breaks my heart to see Duljar acting in such movies....!! You r the guy from Second show and Bangalore Days and It's okay Kanmani and Kurup!! Why Dulkar Why did u break my heart acting in such movies.... Please for the sake of your viewers.... Pls dont act in such movies 😭😭
  • Starts with breezy romantic went melodramatic. Good performances by Dulqeer and Aditi but Kajal's was mediocre. Laud for the director but Karky could have concentrated on the screenplay, writing. The lags could have been edited out. Excellent Cinematography, lighting by the cinematographer, and Music. And the Costume design was the best. Overall a good watch.

Go for it You will not regret it. I don't understand why lot of negative review.

I really liked the way they portrait hero character. Nowadays people like totally unrealistic movie.
  • I was looking forward as impressive star cast and brinda first directional venture..oh my was it a snooze fest . Aditi was chewing bubble gum for her lines lip sync was off .. Kajal mediocre acting was unbearable. Better brinda stick to choreography and stay far away from direction.
