Okay, but it's no G.L.O.W.
A highly unusual Penthouse Video release, this feature takes on the world of competitive Oil Wrestling, a fictional construct that brings up the G.L.O.W. phenomenon without rivalling that camp concept's staying power.
Cash Markman, collaborating on the script with director Kelly Holland, goes for the corniest cliches, with Slick Rhodes (no relation to the show's title) as the former trainer who fills the Burgess Meredith cheerleader role and beautiful Vanessa Lane as the unlikely wannabe wrestler.
Lane is the girlfriend of sleazy promoter Voodoo, who is deadset against her aspirations of getting into the ring. She defies him, and he enlists the perfectly cast Max Mikita as the butch beauty who will use underhanded tricks to defeat her and put her in her place. No surprise at all who ultimately is victorious.
Holland gets high marks for featuring a lot of oiled-up wrestling in the show, as most of these sports-related porn videos opt for lip service only to the subject matter, preferring to veer toward the all-sex end of the spectrum. Supporting femme cast is fine, Voodoo quite effective as a bad guy, and it is refreshing to see all the extras (spectators at the big match) drawn mainly from the ranks of the crew get screen credit for a change.
