  • For the most part the animation is hands down some of the best hand to hand combat I've ever seen. However there are parts when the majority of the body or whatever is moving will drop out of the frame in order for them to show a close up on something else, leaving you with only the slightest clue as to what is currently happening. But the most unforgivable part is the handling of the narrative. The first half of episode one demonstrated a remarkable ability to expand bare bones writing into original and extensively detailed scenes. However there was also a pattern of condensing the more detailed parts of the original story into barely comprehensible, hyper-condensed scenes with next to no incite into the characters. The exposition as to how the characters arrived at their current states takes the form of single sentences mentioned in passing. This may be a consequence for the short episode count.
  • This could have been such an amazing show, but instead of loving it i just ended up liking it thats all. Starting of with the positives is the animation, really well animated and choreographed fight scenes for the majority. MAPPA is killing it. Well produced soundtrack, something which i can see myself listening to over and over. Where it lacked is the same where everyone seems to be complaining. The Narrative. Its like a good chunk of it was left out. Things happen in a fly and escalate from 1 to 100 like we are all buckled up but we are not so we end up crashing with the plot development wondering what and why and how it happened. And most of the missing part is exposited in a flash like we are supposed to go with it. Because of which character development also suffers. I dont think i was able to connect with anyone of the character, everything was in passing. A 25 episode season could have brought out so much depth and fleshed out the characters so much which was felt missing from the show. I wasnt wowed when i should have been but just ended up finding it cool.

Nonetheless they did try to achieve as much as they could in the limited episodes they had so its not all bad. You will be impressed by the animation, fight scenes and will be entertained for a while but you wont stop thinking about how good this all could have been. 6.5/10
  • This anime has an amazing soundtrack, excellent animation, nice though overly done character designs, and good synergy among the three lead characters.

But... The plot is terribly disjointed and a frankenstein of so many other cartoons/animes out there. The entertaining bouts disintegrated into a show of powers half-way through and took away the magic of the semi-traditional martial arts that were on display. If you find yourself watching it and enjoy the parts that it does right in the first half of season one, then stop at episode eight or nine and imagine a fitting conclusion.

    GOH
A new story, beginning with enthusiasm, over time, this anime will be a masterpiece
  • I really expected a lot but because they decide to rush things the adaption did dissappoint me.To keep it short they totally blew the adaption in comparison to the webtoon but I think it in conclusion wasn't all that bad.A 7/10 ig.But still it could have been one of the best this year if they did not rush it.The only problem with this series is that it messed up the pace but everything else was good.

This is a really great anime, good graphics, awesome flight scenes. It deserves a 10/10 rating
  • Pretty damn good start , the first episode started by showing the protagonist waking up late at the day of tornament ( as every other protagonist ive seen in a shonen anime), the characters seems pretty good , the fight was so short but understandable since since it's just the first episode and they need to introduce us to characters and the overall environement. story : 8/10 :it has a lot ofr potential to be one of the best animes of the year Characters : 7/10 :pretty likable characters but not that much special music and sound effects: 9/10 : both opening and ending aredamn good ( you dont find a dubstep opening everyday ) and soudtracks were good and relevant for the situation . art and animation : 9/10 : it wasnt good to the level of shows like fate series or tales of zestiria , but the art was pretty unique and cool , and we got also a high level animation. Enjoyement :10/10 : i realy fell in love of this anime from the first episode and i think this show might become the star of the season and why not of the year , and im pretty excited about how webtoons will change the anime world since most of new seasonal anime became pretty boring.
  • Some nice fight scenes and very good animation aren't enough to salvage a bland cast and a story that is all over the place. It's so rushed it feels like it started at episode 63. This should be my kind of anime, but I just can't get into it. I think mostly the problem is adapting an almost 100 chapters in a 13 episode anime, if you like some cool animation and fights scenes this is for you. I wanna recommend the manwa but if you read the manwa it's very slow paced, if you watch the anime it's very fast paced, so it's kinda complicated, I guess it depends your preference.
  • Some of these reviews. - The story is not complicated. The fight scenes are amazingly well put together and the animation itself is Chris and well done. Not every anime has to be a shonen jump saga.... It's entertaining. And it's well put together.
  • I can't put my finger on it, something is just missing with this show...

Also, I can't get past the red noses on everyone.

    Warning: Spoilers
This show started off pretty good. Even though the premise is pretty strange I still thought it was good. The characters seemed somewhat interesting and I was on board to see a good tournament.

The animation and action scenes also look very good.

So why am I rating it a 4 then? Simple answer the story...

Somewhere along the way the story went completely of the rails. Characters where randomly thrown into the story without any proper context on who they are or what their goals are. And just as quickly as they are thrown into the story they are also pushed to the side again. This takes away any investment one could have for these characters.

In addition the focus switched from a martial arts tournament to some kind of doomsday scenario with super powers that are randomly awakened (or not). Then some supposed gods are summoned and suddenly the US shoots nuclear missiles at Korea and other random stuff just happens out of nowhere and I'm sitting there thinking "What the heck am I watching?"

After 12 episodes I'm feeling completely lost regarding the story and just like with another recent show that has a similar background with it's source material (Tower of God) and which made the same mistakes as this one I have no interest to watch it anymore.
  • It's just one episode today, I was indeed thrilled by the action and the dialog delivery is awesome, just horrendously made its toooooooo awesome everyone will love it for sure
  • Warning: Spoilers
Drawing and animation are very beautiful, and I hope that the story will be as I thought
  • I just finished with the 5th episode and so far it has been so good. They haven't revealed or explained much of the things yet. However this show does have that quality to become a prominent show. I've always been stoked to see tournament in any anime and this show has given me that in initial episodes.

Animation and characters are eye candy of the show. Especially animation is really clean and slick.

Opening and ending soundtracks are really catchy.

Seems highly promising, so for now I'm gonna continue with this.

    Arigato!
  • I am giving it a 7 for the animation and tracks. But it was rushed too much and a lot of story has been skipped some of which was very interesting. So, I would recommend reading the webtoon if you still haven't watched it, then you can decide for yourself if you would like to watch it or not.
  • I like this a lot..the animation fight and the suspense about the plot all is good.
  • Please Mappa you are setting a new level of action in the anime Industry but you were The Creator of Banana Fish please atleast give us more time in episode for story explanation because I can't understand how 113 chapters of manhwa were adapted in just 13 episodes where just because of some character development we can't able to stop Yoo Mira from her marriage because of not getting connected with her. Same goes with Han Daewi and his friend where they had the potential for getting us emotional for them but we can't. Please fix this Mapppa I know you can do it I am very impressed by your track record in anime production and execution but with GoH you compromised its storyteling which can be the factor of forgetting this anime but I don't want to forget th visuals and action sequences so please do justice to its story in its upcoming season that i'll be forced to give it a 9 star rating.

    Messy
Imo excellent animation isn't enough to qualify this as a masterpiece, the first half is really good but then it turns a really good martial arts tournament into power ups that apparently come out of nowhere, (maybe not) then everything revolves around that powers and it gets really messy. Character development is done in little time and in just some pieces of dialogue after the first half just to get some action. Then they introduce characters out of nowhere and then they never appear again.

If you would like to see good character development and fights with OP powers I would recommend Bungo Stray Dogs.
  • I went into episode 1 of The god of High school with zero expectations oh god this anime is phenomenal

I can't believe the quality of the animation it's so spectacular and the action scenes are so fluid (really satisfying to watch the fight scene) and art style of the character is amazing and talk about music, it's really good too I can't find any flaws and it give me My hero academia vibes.

Might be action/funniest anime of 2020

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Everything about the show is interesting, fun and full of excitement! I recommend you to watch this.
  • Episode 1 has great intro Animation is smooth but i dont understand the red noses and red color on joints like knee or something like that. And characters are nothing different than onther casual anime. So this anime is trash imo
  • This had potential with good animation and great fights but it stops there. The story seemed to jump around and you don't know why things are happening and they don't explain them, got confusing at times and was very frustrating because they don't explain very much.
