The Square on the Hypotenuse
Peter is in the pub drinking with an anxious Barry (Alun Armstrong.) The reason for his anxiety? Barry is carrying on with one woman which he meets in the pub and then Barry's wife turns up.
Barry persuades Peter to pretend that they have been having a late night business meeting and also make out that the other woman is Peter's girlfriend. Peter reluctantly goes through with his and it turns out that Peter does not even know Barry, they had just met in the pub.
When Peter arrives home, Sheila has put him in the doghouse as he came home really late. The next morning Superintendent Redway (Richard Wilson) drops by unhappy with the expenses run up by his wife, the woman incidentally Peter pretended was his girlfriend in the pub the night before.
It is notable that Sheila plays a more secondary role in the second series and again we get some slapstick. Wilson's policeman character who knows his wife is having an affair and just wants his fair share of the money from Peter comes as a bit of a surprise but it was not a strong or a very funny episode.
