  • This show was shown to me when I was in the "target audience" and I thought it was a punishment. Every episode is exactly the same, the animation is terrible, the voice acting is bad, and its BORING.

This show is stupid and it is a rip off to Bill Nye The Science Guy. It is one of the worst TV shows in PBS Kids history but Barney is way worse than Sid the Science Kid. Also it was great when it got canceled in 2013.
  • This show is terrible. But it didn't need to be. I love kids shows that teach science in an understandable and creative way. Unfortunately, every single thing in this show is terrible. Other than the songs. They're actually pretty catchy and well written. Other than that, WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN?! The animation is horrifyingly unfinished. The characters move like their under some sort of spell. Why do the characters teeth randomly disappear and reappear? I understand animation is difficult, but why is every character so unsettlingly creepy looking? This aired on PBS KIDS!! Speaking of characters. Every character other than Gerald are somehow annoying and boring at the same time. I genuinely can't name a single trait of any character other than Gerald. I think the reason why they are so annoying is because of they're voice actors. WHY IS EVERYONE SO ANNOYINGLY VOICED??!! There is nothing wrong with speaking like a normal person!! It's fine to have an adult impersonate a child, but is it to much to ask for Someone who actually sounds like a child? All of their lines are overlapping and sometimes it feels like there isn't even a script it's just them doing random filler for an unacceptably long amount of time. Every episode starts with the characters coming into the scene vvvvvvvveeeeeeeerrrrrrrryyyyyyyy sssssssslllllllloooooooowwwwwwwwllllllllyyyyyyyy and I hate it it's so predictable! 98% of the audience already knows the characters. Even if they don't, it should be pretty easy to remember their personality through the episode. Even though they have no personality to speak of. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST WRITTEN SHOWS I HAVE EVER SEEN. It's only appropriate to talk about my biggest problem last. This show thinks that the children are stupid. It has the most sickly sweet lines from everyone, there is never any conflict and the show is absolutely COATED with filler. And then, out of nowhere the lessons they teach about science are usually way more advanced then the shows "target audience" I remember watching this when I was very young and never understood any of the science. That just makes me ask. "Who were they making this for?" Boring. Annoying. Predictable. Stupid. Lazy.

Something that should not be watched by anyone. Unless you plan on ripping on it with friends.

The animation and voice acting are so terrible that it distracts from everything. Sid and friends live deep in the uncanny valley. It seems like the animators are flexing their skills and drawing body movement. The problem is that they don't seem to have the skills that they are trying to show off. The characters are constantly moving, swaying jumping, dancing, etc. It seems like it's designed by childless adults imagining how kids act. It's truly awful and creepy. The voice actors are really terrible too. I wonder if they auditioned the talent or if they just randomly grabbed people off the street and said "talk like a kid".
  • Finally a show that's adorable and teaches science without being too heavy handed or unappealing to kids. I'm so glad we found it for my almost 5-year-old.
  • This charming program follows a boy named Sid, a very curious kid, through a school day. Sid starts the day with a question, and the class explores the science behind it with simple experiments and class discussion. The program's tone is very light and humorous, filled with lots of music and jokes, and it is effective for teaching natural science. The show is CG animated, but it contains live-action segments of kids in school performing experiments. Sid himself appears to be in first or second grade, but the show is aimed at pre-K and kindergärtners too, as there is no reading involved, just a lot of music and exploration.

Ah yes. My childhood. I love this show! it's adorable and the songs are catchy!
  • It's easy for kids to overlook the bad parts of Sid the Science Kid and appreciate it. And I can certainly see why!

The setup is the same every single episode but with a few small variations, and this is a show that does that in a good way. A lot of modern cartoons that have the same setup every single episode but with a few small variations do that in a bad way.

I love how when Sid knows that he has to do something that he's not a fan of or is in a situation that he doesn't really like that much, instead of complaining too much about it, he helps himself feel better by asking a science question about said situation and investigating it at school with his friends and his great teacher.

The show has great humor, and I love the style of Sid's "big idea" segment and the live action segments. And about the songs? Some of them sound like rap songs, others country songs.

The only real negatives to this show is that as good as the writing of each episode is, the animation and voice acting are bad, and the characters besides Sid don't have that much of a personality.

Overall? A show that looks and sounds bad on the outside but is enjoyable on the inside. Really proves that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, or in this case, a cartoon by its animation.
