Bret “Hitman” Hart began his career in his father’s Stampede Wrestling promotion, before achieving global superstardom in the World Wrestling Federation in the ’80’s and ’90’s. His no-nonsense attitude, and the legitimacy that came with being a Hart Brother from the infamous family Dungeon enabled Bret to bypass the cartoon gimmicks that were handed out to his WWF colleagues.
And so, while his peers on the WWF roster were saddled with ludicrous personas (such as the gifted Terry Taylor being made to cluck and strut as The Red Rooster), Bret was able to sidestep all of the cornball nonsense and continually be presented as a serious athlete.
Forget the multiple championship wins, being presented simply as a wrestler in Vince McMahon’s 80’s universe, was perhaps Bret’s greatest accomplishment.
That being said, even a guy as respected and decorated as ‘the Hitman’ would still occasionally find...

Ah The Slammy Awards…
I don’t know about you, but heading into this show I couldn’t wait for Santa to turn up and give Adam from WhatCulture.com another cringeworthy Christmas moment to add to his seeming never-ending collection.
I also couldn’t wait for WWE to play on the whole Miss Universe controversy in the most painful way possible, where Santino Marella – who was returning to add his own blend of comedy gold to the show, didn’t you know – read out the wrong person, who then brawled with the real winner after having the illustrious trophy taken from them.
Oh the joy…
The gimmick that is The Slammys presented WWE with the platform to try and create something as compelling as last week’s show. The return of Vince McMahon and Roman Reigns’ shock WWE World Heavyweight Championship win saw Raw hit unparalleled heights...

The Big News: A masked Kane returned to chokeslam John Cena, Cm Punk won the superstar of the year slammy award and Triple H emerged after a two month hiatus to hype up his TLC match with Kevin Nash.
In a Nutshell: The Slammy Awards somehow ended up being a reminder of the worse things of the year instead of the best.
A Slammy Award video package opened the show which showed moments of previous ceremonies including some brief footage of Owen Hart’s hillarious victory celebration on the night when he was actually supposed to be handing out the award…. “I did it again… wooooooo!!!!” That genuinely was hysterical.
What was not so hysterical however was the segment which opened this three hour edition of Raw which saw Hornswoggle and Booker T present the slammy for the “tell me I did not just see that award”. Jr won for...
